I heard the average vest of chain mail was slightly in excess of 20 pounds, I could google, but meh, so could you.

I can attest to this. I used to do medieval-style combat with people from an SCA Heavy Fighting Unit. The armor we wore was patterned on Roman Lorica Segmentata, and made from High-Density Polyetheline with light padding beneath. And that shit stopped both impacts and the rare sharp weapon ( in the case of a weapon breaking, as all weapons were blunted and wooden... but a break still happened now and then and made a pointy thing. ) very effectively. Making a similar material out of an even heavier element would produce substantially more durable and protective armor.
Until you see me hit something with a mace this study is inconclusive.
Plus, it doesn't really matter how good your armour is at absorbing impacts, because physics dictates I can still hit you hard enough that you fall over, at which point your face is mine.
And main characters don't wear face armour, unless they're Khans.

Uh, little more specific here? I think Templars wore some sort of complementary under armour.
Plus, almost every soldier who wore chain mail also wore padding underneath, which saved -a lot- of people from arrows.

I did have an idea for dragon scale armor, but would that be like a human wearing armor made out of human? O_o
Depends if Evvie moults or something.
It would be more like a human wearing armour made of dead skin, or hair.

I've never made a character called K---censored----, a 6ft 3" Englishman with a perchance for cynicism and sarcasm.
To be fair, that video is inconclusive.
I'd like to see him do that when he isn't controlling his fall into a pile of soft mud. A huge amount of things can go wrong.
