The Character Creation System:
So I made this system to prevent overpowered characters from being made. There are three different types of skills: Magic, Non-Magic Combat, and Support Skills. These are the useful abilities of your characters. You get 10 points to spend with Magic skills, 10 points to spend on Non-Magic Combat, and 10 to spend on Support Skills. Magic skill points effect how skilled you are with certain forms of magic, so say you have 1 point in blood magic, then you know very little and cant boil enemies blood, control people, or make people bleed out of all their orifices. The most you can do at 1 point here is slow blood clotting slightly or give someone a nose bleed. With Non-Magic Combat and Support Skills, its the same as far as skill points. Non-Magical Combat is how proficient you are with your fists or certain weapons. Support Skills are skills that are not combat related and might help the party during the rp in ways like getting into a locked up building, getting confidential info, making money, or otherwise. Let me give an example of what your characters starting skills might look like:
Magic:
Telepathy: 1
Psionics (Pyrokinesis): 5
Healing: 4
Non-Magic Combat:
Hand to Hand (MMA): 3
Clubs: 4
Guns (Rifles): 3
Support Skills:
Infiltration: 2
Guitar: 5
Hacking: 3
Notice how with certain skills I put another word parenthesese. This is because there are different variants of these skills. For psionics, there is pyrokinesis, telekinesis, cyrokinesis, hydrokinesis, and others. For hand to hand there are various different fighting styles and martial arts. For guns, there are rifles, shotguns, handguns, and machine guns. These are only examples of skills, and are not the only skills you may have. After you create your character, your character will need to train, study, or get experience with a skill to earn more points for it. Lets say you get into a lot of fist fights. Eventually your hand to hand will rise by one point. You may put any skills for each you can think of, so long as they match the description I gave for each in the first paragraph. The skill cap at the beginning is 30, but will raise as the plot advances.

UNNATURAL CAMPUS
GM: MikkishtheLeprechaun
Co-GM: PM if interested in this position

The Unnatural World:
For longer than records here on Earth will tell, there have always been supernatural creatures hiding among the human race and out of sight. Perhaps there was a time long ago when they showed themselves to the human race, unafraid of punishment or execution, but if there was ever such a time, it has been gone for a long, long time.
Now, in the modern era, the year 2008 to be exact, humans go about their business, thinking such things as vampires and werewolves to only exist in novel or book ideas, and of magic as being explainable tricks and optical illusions. Most never stop to consider how wrong they may be.
Vampires, werewolves, demons, goblins, nucklavee, and any mysterious being of ancient legend, was thought up for a reason. They did exist at some point in some way, and some still do, but out of sight to most, or hiding as one of us. However, the human race is in little danger of attacks. Aside from in fighting on the part of supernatural beings, there is also the fear of human aggression. Believe it or not, due to the advancements of weapons and tactics, the supernatural are not only afraid of humans much more than humans fear them, but are mostly perfectly content to go about their own business, without any plans to rule above the human race.

Magic:
Magic is seen in many forms of media, including books, movies, and video games, but it is often depicted inaccurately. There is an endless amount of hidden energy all around the universe, and only requires the proper will to harness. A mage needs no ritual, staff, or wand to throw an explosive ball of fire, though such things might help to amplify the power of a spell. Magic has many forms...too many to actually count. There is elemental, physical buffing, healing, blood magic, psionics, and necromancy, to name a few.
Unfortunately for non-humans, magic is particularly difficult to do. Humans can most easily align themselves with the energy which surrounds them. It is due to this, that the magic schools are almost exclusively human.

The World of Mages:
Among the many supernatural things which exist without the average humans knowledge is magic. Unlike certain books or movies would have you think, magic is not reserved only for those gifted with the ability. Although there are some who have been reading minds or levitating objects since birth, anyone could learn it through hard study and an open mind. Men and women able to harness magic are known as mages. Though mages have been forced into hiding long, long ago, they still have many academies worldwide for the purpose of learning magic and expanding upon their knowledge of magic. Some are hidden in deep forests, some are deep beneath the sea, some are in flying cities....
And some are on islands...

Golla Island
Far off the coast of California, there is an island the size of a small country, out of the way of typical trade routes, and ruled by a corporation known as Maniacles (more will be revealed about them in game).
The island has a city, as well as a few small towns in various other areas. Most of the island is covered in thick jungle, and people avoid wondering around the center too much as the thickest, darkest parts are a favorite of crime organizations and cults. Any small towns or road stops are only found around the edges, more near to the coast or the mountains.
Though it is often hot and humid, the trees above shade anyone walking through the jungle. Ruins can be found all throughout, looking to be of Roman architect. Theories have been made about previous settlement on this island, but nothing can be proven for sure.
Located at the South end of the island, the sprawling metropolis of Golla City is home to many, many mages, in case you didn't know. There is a beautiful view of the mountains from here, but the towering buildings block the view from the streets, but the green jungle still surrounds the concrete jungle, and there is a bay going inward all the way to the city, allowing for a gorgeous view of the vast, blue ocean, and a boardwalk full of excitement. The rest of the city is marvelous, where magic mixes with modern technology, the air is clean even in the industrial area, and magic is used by most in daily life. The law is rather loose on things such as marijuana and simple fighting, as evil rituals and human sacrifice is considered a much more important problem to focus on. Crime is pretty high, but what can you expect, when so many with such power are put in one city?

The Merlinus Academy
These halls of learning are located at the northern tip of the city where the streets pavement meets the forest grass. There are pillars at the front entrance of both of the massive school buildings, and a single dorm building as big as a mansion. The outdoor vegetation surrounding the academy is well kept, and must be constantly taken care of, as the track field, football field, and baseball field are constantly being torn up by the spell flinging students.
The indoor school is much like any college. The teachers are experienced and give difficult tests, and the students freak out over grades and form their cliques.
When first coming, the students are given a schedule and a dorm room number, and are offered a tour of the place. The student may then experience college just like anyone in the "average" world. Go to classes, get good grades, then get a good job on the island, one of the other schools throughout the world, or elsewhere in the hidden supernatural world. There are many more opportunities for a graduate of this place than one would think. If a mage wants a "normal" career, there are still typical degree courses such as business, journalism, etc.

Cash:
This part used to be kinda strict, with me telling new players how much their character had. Now I only really ask that your character's spending be realistic. Maybe they are from rich parents but I still don't want characters buying and stockpiling guns and buying up the whole island. This is a magic rp, and while there will be guns, magic should be the primary focus of combat and problem solving. Also, only USD is accepted on the island, and credit cards and debit cards from off the island don't work here.

Now that we have gone over the general idea of the game, here are
The Rules:
1. I am gm, my word is law.
2. No overpowered characters. The character creation system pretty much prevents that, but if you find some loophole and your character winds up being too powerful, I will have you edit your post. Also, no controlling other characters.
3. The combat is written out by the players, and there is no hp system, but dont use this as an excuse to make your character unbeatable. I made the game without hp or anyone having to roll dice because I trusted everyone would know when their character was hit or defeated.
4. No time skips without my permission.
5. No arguing or flame wars in the game or discussion.
6. If you are leaving, post that you are leaving first so we dont have hold ups. If you want to come back after a long absence, tell me via pm so I can work your character back into the story.
7. No auto hitting or killing other people's characters. Also, there will be boss battles and that kind of thing, where I will write in OOC not to auto hit or control the enemy NPC, in which case, please don't.
8. Cursing is fine, gore description is fine, and other adult themes are fine. If two characters are having a love scene, however, keep it PG-13.
9. Being that my word is law, if I catch you doing something that is not posted here in the rules that I dont think should be allowed, I will either tell you to edit, or never do it again.
10. Please feel free to ask me if there is something you are not sure about. I will not bite you, beat you up, sacrifice you to the Elder Gods, or steal your sweet roll. I promise.

Alright then. May as well post the rp
There are certainly "Grand evils," its just more complicated than "Evil Wizard want to destroy the world and force the princess to marry him."

Speaking of wizard, all player character will be mages, but there are various types of magic, including Buff Magic (channeling magic to improve your own strength, speed and resilience) so there is a lot you can do with it. Its not just weak nerds with pointy hats throwing fireballs.
Who would find this interesting.

This would be another attempt on an old RP of mine.

writingforums.org/threads/unnatural-ca..

Basically, a magic college (meaning 18 and up, adults). It would be less over-the-top-fantasy and have things like corporate corruption, horrible crime (murder and human trafficking) and not be a nice world despite being "fantasy." And it will later on reveal itself to not really be just magic school fantasy, but something darker.

There is also the point system, which can be found in the link I posted, to prevent OP characters.

Who is in?
Come on, people. Supernatural mansion? For everyone? Play as your favorite character or original character from any universe?
Still accepting?
By the way, the forest isn't always in New England, you guys can get there from anywhere. So long as "eventually finding himself/herself in a forest" is involved, your character can be traveling through anywhere.
Name: Joseph Mikkish Callahan
Age: 20
Gender: Male

Appearance: 6'0 tall, body looks somewhere between lean and emaciated, scar on right cheek, light blonde hair worn long to mid-neck, scruffy chin and face, bright green eyes. Style is between thug and prep, if you can imagine. Handsome face, but bastards grin.

Personality: He does what he wants, and he's always looking for a good time. He has no problems with violence or crime, but if you and him become friends, you will struggle to find a friend more loyal. He loves drinking, pot, sex, the occasional shroom, and a good fight. Don't try to coerce him through intimidation, it will only end in disappointment, and likely backfire. One of his major drawbacks, however, is that he doesn't really think before he speaks, or does, or anything, really.

Universe: Unnatural Verse, from my original RP I have attempted a couple times. You will probably find out more if you pay attention to his references to his past experiences.

Abilities: Heat things up, or set them on fire with his mind. Channel his magic energy through his body to make himself stronger, faster, and more resilient. Good with hand to hand combat due to experiences, classes he has taken, and things he picked up from watching other people fight, and when paired with his magic its a lethal combination. Indifference to gory, violent scenery or killing (in most cases at least).

Items/Equipment: Pair of steel knuckles, revolver and three rounds of magic silencing bullets (will be explained in game), a mysterious book written in an ancient language with missing pages, and usual luggage.

History: Dont want to reveal too much, but will give a rundown. Mikkish is from a Universe where magic is possible with all intelligent life (humans, beings as intelligent or moreso, and in rare cases even animals). The world (earth) is like ours though, and mages and other supernatural things are in hiding and secrecy, so almost nobody knows mages and vampires and the like exist. Mikkish woke up one day as a young boy age 12 in the hospital, with no memories save for a few brief flashes, and nobody knowing who he was. Life was harsh for him growing up, but long story short he got used to petty crimes like theft and drug deals. Already now, the idea of a "Happy Magical School" seems pretty corrupted, but that is actually where his story truly began. He left his adoptive father (drug dealer trailer trash) at age 19 when he found a book, some of which he was able to translate and revealed the world of mages (long story on how he became convinced and will likely be explained in RP. He went to the college he read about in the book, which was on an island, off the west coast of the US where he experienced what seemed at first like typical school and college life. The island, however, was owned by a corrupt corporation based in the US, but outside of any laws besides those of the corporation. This is only the tip of the iceberg though. He made friends there, and with them he battled the dangers on the island, including the corporation and gangs of psychotic mages, but his most important fights were with evil, otherworldly beings. More than the fights, he discovered some of the truth and real importance of his book he had found. Unfortunately, in his crazy fights, he lost some pages.

Mikkish began traveling through New England due to another cult he heard about. What is he truly there to do? Who sent him, and why did he come alone? Why not ask him?
Somewhere between the Universes stands a mysterious forest. What universe it belongs to is unknown to any that have ever passed through here, even to the denizens of the forest.

Thats right, standing outside of, yet right alongside of the universes of DC, Capcom, Nintendo and even the ones of the RPers gazing at this post on their computer screens, sits a single place, this forest, where they may come together and meet.

And this forest is thick, but it is a short travel. If one attempts to walk from one end to the next, they would likely be out of these woods sooner than they realized. There are no towns, or villages, or even gas stations or truck stops.

There is only the mansion, apart from the trees. The mansion is massive, almost more like a palace. Here, the food seems eternally fresh and in endless supply. While the mansion is far off any grid, electricity, heat and clean water will run, without attention to any power lines or pipes outside. Maids and butlers, as clueless to the existence of the forest and the mansion as anyone else, have seemingly impossible abilities to clean up any mess. The best part is, nobody seems to truly own the place, and people, or other things are warmly invited to come and stay, with nobody with any true rights to the place to kick them out.

But the mansion is in one of the most vulnerable place imaginable. Any of the greatest threats, and nightmares, can come from any direction, with nobody but whoever is present in the mansion at the time to stand against them. And this has become increasingly common for any "heroes" or legends to stay at the place, sometimes being killed and even getting erased from existence entirely. Some will only stay a night or two, despite the temptation, because they sense this danger.

Some, however, are only drawn in more by this, and are determined to solve the mystery, or perhaps...fulfill some other agenda...

And now, just like last time, warriors, heroes, and "badasses" from different corners of the Multiverse have found themselves wandering through a forest, but come upon this mansion. How long will they last? Will they accomplish their goals? Will they solve the true mystery? Can it even be solved?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to my first attempt at a "Supernatural Mansion for Everyone" rp, where our favorite video game, cartoon, anime, movie, and original characters can meet, befriend each other, romance, fight, and anything under the sun (so long as it doesn't break the rules, of course.

Let me start with some rules:

1. Don't have your character be too overpowered. Kind of vague, I know, so as GM this will be at my discretion.
2. Don't time skip without my permission. This throws everything off, like people's interaction and plans for the plot or subplot.
3. Your character can be original or from any canon of any media you want, but please make them reasonable size, like not so big they crush the mansion or soemtihng.
4. No arguing with GM or with other players in IC or OOC. Keep it in PM and be civil.
5. No auto-hitting.
6. Don't control other people's characters. If someone makes an NPC and says "please don't take control of it, plot important" please don't. Otherwise, NPCs are fair game.
7. Enjoy yourself
