Martha Waters

Martha laid her pencil down on her desk, finishing up the last of her homework. It was tough, working in Japanese constantly. She'd been learning in school for the past few years now, and was almost conversational, but this was on another level. Her new school spoke, and wrote in it exclusively, and her host family, while having a passing knowledge of English, wasn't going easy on her. She frowned at the paper in front of her, confident she'd made several mistakes, but was unable to properly catch them. She knew she could go to her host mother, who'd seemed kindly and cheerful, but Martha has bigger things on her mind than homework. The Hex Night; The real reason she was here. She rose from her seat, and opened up her window. Yes, she needed to get out of here without alerting her hosts, and the window served her well in the past. She propped up her glasses, and gracefully slid outside, closing the window behind her.

She took in a breath of fresh, evening air, and quietly said to herself, "Alright, now let's find a place to get set up." The most difficult thing about this would be reconnaissance .She normally liked to perform hours, if not a whole day's worth, but as she would be actively hunted, that might not work out the best. She could, however, get herself to a defensible position, and lay a few traps for her eventual prey.

Martha made her way though the city, and thought as she went. She wasn't made for direct confrontation, at least not in the way some of her more spectacular "Sisters" were. Sure, she couldn't light a building on fire, or destroy a monster with but a thought, but she didn't need to, the way she saw it. Her powers were a toolbox, that if used correctly, would guide her though any struggle. She couldn't be snuck up on, and her reaction time was better than anybody else's, possibly in the world. Those two alone made her formidable, not to mention her signature. She smiled to herself, and slipped away into an ally way. Time to start planning

Bart gave Sophia a look of disbelief as he looked from her, to the boar that was previously James, and his very sharp looking tusks, and back to Sophia, while Alexandra broke out in laughter. "You're... not serious are you?" He asked. Having just died a few hours ago, he wasn't quite in the mood to do that again. Not quite else knowing what to do, he found himself laughing along with Alexandra. He wasn't going quite as crazy as her, but he did find himself buckling a bit, and putting his head in his hands, before shaking and straightening himself, a smile now on his face. "No, no I don't think we should do that, not unless Alexandra or I have super strength that is." He said. He always thought that would be a useful, but boring ability to have, besides the fact that it on it's own would cause more problems than solve, it was just too vanilla.

Bart continued to gaze out at the boar, when he noticed Alicia come into view. If anybody could handle this, surely it would be her, right? She was the most experienced Paradox here, to his knowledge. He stuck his head out the door, and waved out to her, a concerned look on his face. "Hello!" He called out, "I'm afraid we're a bit... stuck." Making his unwillingness to deal with the situation at hand apparent. He was by no means a brave man, and knew this was far out of scope for him. "Do you think you could maybe give us a hand? The Hat seems to have disappeared at the worst time..." He said with a smile. He didn't like seeming useless, but he simply wasn't able to wrestle down a boar. He knew his limits, and he knew he had to respect them. He looked between Sophia and Alexandra, hoping for their sake, and his, that they felt similarly.

Adalene frowned, "Well, I don't have a car, so I can't help you there." In truth, even if she had one, she wouldn't bring he up anyway, that would destroy her schedule for days. She paused for a moment, considering what she was about to do. Inviting a stranger into her apartment, especially with everything happening recently, might not be the best idea, but if she had to bet, this woman had nothing to do with any of her own worries. "If you have nowhere else to go, my apartment is open." She said, smiling. She really didn't see this girl as any kind of threat, why would she? And she was curious as to what exactly went down.

Adalene looked back towards the door with a grimace, "I can't imagine he's too nice, so I don't blame you if you wanna get as far away as possible though." Honestly, it made her more angry than anything that partners thought they could treat each other with any kind of violence, threatened or otherwise. If she were a lesser person, she might go in and scare the crap out of that man, but that was far below her. Her hand clenched a bit behind her back, as she shook her head. "I can promise I won't let him bother you though." She knew she could absolutely guarantee that, not many men could beat her in a fight, or even intimidate her, and she didn't imagine this man to be the type of person with the patience required for martial arts.
Stupid question.
Martha doesn't speak Japanese, how do I deal with this?

Bart smiled as Sophia took and drank the water, and in general seemed to calm down. He gave a sideways look at her, "What exactly was going on though?" He asked, very curious about the particulars of her ability. He didn't want to come off as insensitive, so he left the question hanging there. He glanced back at James as he was apparently preparing a second glass of water for Sophia. He took a small step to the side, to make room for him, and gasped as something impossible began to happen. To Bart's horror, he watched, paralyzed with a mix of fear and awe as the man in front of him began to transform into a boar. A scream erupted from his lips at the horror before him, before stumbling back and falling flat on his ass as the man turned boar ripped it's way out of the kitchen house.

Bart looked up at Sophia and over at Alexandra, and with a shaky voice said, "H-how? What? I.. I.." Grasping for words. What the fuck was that? He guessed it had to be an ability of some kind, but fuck is that wasn't absolutely terrifying. He flipped over onto all fours, and pushed himself off the ground. "Should we get... somebody?" He said, the worry evident in his voice. He didn't want to run off and leave these two alone after what just happened, or go out alone while James was running around as a boar. He didn't know human he was right now, and he didn't want to find out the wrong way. He inched towards the door, and looked hopefully at Sophia and Alexandra. "I don't think the others mentioned where they were going exactly, did they say anything to you?" He asked, looking at Sophia, knowing she was originally with another group before coming back in, shock still ringing through his voice as he was processing what he just say. He didn't hear any screaming outside, so he was relatively certain that wherever the others were, it wasn't near them.

Adalene scurried back as something was thrown against the wall she was listening on. She hesitated for a second as she heard the door slam, and then make a move to head towards her own door. She didn't recognize the voice per say, but whatever happened, this girl was probably in a lot of pain right now, and didn't deserve to be alone. She didn't care if this woman cheated or not, if, as she assumed, the man threw something at her, the man was probably a piece of shit anyway. Adalene had never been cheated on herself, never really having been in a long enough relationship to have to worry about anything like that, so she didn't exactly have context for how bad something like that was, but she did know that something like that had to be difficult for everybody involved. She stepped out of her apartment, and ran to catch up with the woman storming out.

"Hey, are you alright?" She called out, right behind her. She cleared her throat for a moment, and then continued. "I uh, heard your argument." She explained, "I just wanted to make sure you had somewhere to go..." She said carefully, glancing back at the apartment she came out of. She didn't exactly like the idea of opening up her apartment to a stranger, especially in this city, but she figured she could give her somewhere to stay while she works out her own plans. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop though!" She lied blatantly, "But I did hear something getting thrown, and that doesn't exactly sound like a safe place for you to be right now." She said carefully.
  • Name: Martha Waters
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: Martha has light skin, with brown eyes. She stands at around 5'7". but is more inclined to slouch and lose a couple inches. Her hair is silky, short, and colored a bright blonde, going only to around her ears. She has a pair of red framed glasses she wears, along with a similarly colored bow in her hair. She dresses in casual attire, mostly denim skirts and tank tops make up her day wear. She has a slim, nonthreatening build, and her demeanor might make some think a stiff breeze might blow her over.
  • Personality: Harriet is a clever girl, mature beyond her years. She always thinks before she speaks, and is constantly thinking about how to advance whatever goal she may be currently working towards. Many an enemy have found themselves defeated before even having a chance to strike, not because Harriet is faster or stronger than them, but rather because she spends considerable time watching and stalking her prey, before setting a trap to deal with them swiftly. As a magical girl, she strives to end any confrontation in one strike, before the enemy even knows she's there. When living her normal life, she spends her time in school quietly, listening to her friend and schoolmates talk and tries to hone in on potential threats that may have arrived in her city. She views herself as a kind and compassionate person, thinking of her work as a kind of public service, keeping the innocent people round her safe from harm they can't themselves fight. At the same time, she can come off as lazy at times, her waiting and thought coming off with a kind of casual relaxation that might make an observe think she isn't as dedicated as she is.
  • Skills: Knots, deduction, memorization.
  • Brief Backstory:
Martha has always been the kind of girl to plan ahead, and wait for things to come together in just the right way. It's why she's a straight A student, and an A+ Magical Girl. She grew up in a high society family, where every act she would make had to be considered, lest she embarrass her parents. It was as necessary to survival as food and water. She didn't mind it t all though, it was the only way she knew, and it seemed to always work out pretty well for her. When she became a magical girl, she was so excited to be able to help people and bring the highest honors possible to her family name. She found it to be more important than anything, and threw herself into her work. She would spend night after night scoping out her city, watching and waiting and destroying evil as it came. When she heard about Hex Night, and the wish she'd get when she won, she knew she had to go, and she felt as if it was her destiny to win, and bring true fame and esteem to the Waters family name. Thusly, she convinced her parents to spend some time in Japan to add to "culturally enrich" her education, and managed to get herself there in time.

    • Magical Girl Appearance:As a magical Girl, Martha's clothes take a shift to become more simple and freeing. She becomes adorned in a pure white robe, with a black undershirt and shorts below. The rob extends down to her knees, leaving her bare legs clear to see. She has formal black shoes on her feet, with white socks going up to an inch above the heel. The bow that was previously in her hair transforms into a spindle with a seemingly never ending amount of thread, which places itself neatly on the side of her waist. Lastly, her hair changes color to be a dirty blonde.
    • Concept: Patience
    • Archetype: Arachne's Spool
    • Abilities:
  • Patience's Virtue: Her perspective of time scales with how fast she's moving. If she's standing still, time goes to a crawl, giving her time to think and plan out her actions, and scales up to the point of her walking, at which point time takes it's normal flow.
  • Danger Sense: When a potential threat either to Martha or others is about to occur, normally within the radius of a couple city blocks, Martha gets a mental ping, warning her and letting her know to either keep her guard up or rush off to help those in need.
  • Laying in wait: The spindle on Matha's side can be used to set traps for her enemies. She can set points for the thread to lay at as she moves around, until she wills in to disconnect from her spindle and tighten around the next target to come in contact with it. While she's setting it, the thread is virtually invisible to anybody who doesn't know to look for it. When disconnected, the resulting web is taught in the air, and is a light reflective white color. The web has the tensile strength of Spider Silk, and can tighten as much as Martha desires.
