CIVILIZATION DESCRIPTION: The Venians are a race of thinkers. They have many great philosophers and writers. The Venians are naturally curious and as such have developed a moderately advanced society. Venians tend to live in large groups and do not take well to isolation, as such Vena has many large cities, but very few villages. Venians do not put much emphasis on familial relations, oddly enough, instead friendships are considered the most important roles in one’s life. Venians do not have a concept of an exclusive relationship, words such as “marriage” aren’t in the Venian vocabulary. Children are rarely raised by their parents, instead growing up in independently run boarding schools.
Physical Description:The Venians are somewhat close to human looking. They have angular features and pale skin, ranging from a porcelain white to the only slightly pale (Note that skin color is somewhat of a status symbol. Paler skinned Venians tend to be on the upper echelons of society). They average at about 6’ 2” at maturity and typically weigh about 130 lbs. Thier thin stature makes them decidedly unfit for physical pursuits. They have human like hair, but with no uniformity on color or length. Some people have long, flowing purple hair. Others have short, dark hair. The Venians also have little to no pain tolerance. Venians do, however, have a stunning intellect. Though this manifests in many different ways. Some Venians have photographic memory or are skilled at math. Many Venians are immensely good at gauging someone’s thoughts by looking a them, a trait that makes many Venians great traders.
History: The Venians have little record of their history before an event they call “The Great Unification”, which is said to have occurred about 1000 years ago. It was then that the many quarrelling tribes were brought together by a mysterious entity called “The Unifier”. Once all of the tribes were unified into one coalition, technology and culture began to flourish. Then, the other race that once occupied Vena, the Varkanis, waged war on the Venians for 50 years. Eventually, the Venians greater organization and technology granted them victory. The Varkanis were absorbed by the Venians and were eventually bred out of existence. It is said that the darker-skinned Venians have some Varkanis blood. The only religion known to the Venians is that of “Unification”, worshiping the concept of unity and deitizing the Great Unifier. The followers of Unification make about 40% of all Venians, the rest are irreligious and believe that the Unifier was either a legend or some great mortal leader. While many different Venians have many different views, these are mostly settled through lively debate. The only armed conflict since the defeat of the Varkanis are riots started by followers of Unification who believe the government is too secular.
