“Eternal as the stars and sea”

Location:

Dark Blue to the Northeast

Flag:

Basic Information:

Population: 79,891,051 Victorians

Capital: Garina

Demonym: Victorian

Currency: Victorian Credits

Technology Level: Comparable to steampunk. Characterized by the existence and use of muskets and some light infantry units. Navy is also about the same, with some experimental ironclads.

Main industry: Trade, fishing and mining. Relies on mainland provinces and some of its islets for agriculture.

Military: Strong navy with land forces more specialized as marines instead of as land army.

Government (basic details): Constitutional Monarchy with non-feudal aristocratic class participating in Parliament. Current Head of State is Desmere I of the House Victorinne

Current date in Imperial Calendar: 29 IE.

Historical Background:

Calendar system is 4-quarter, 90-day-per-quarter system. The extra 5 days are empty days, considered days outside of the year and days of silence and complete rest.

Dating system uses BE (Before Empire) and IE (Imperial Era), 0 IE is the year of the Empire’s founding.
The Victorian Empire had existed as a concept as the Cerpalian Empire as early as the 7th Century BU; however, only as a heavily fragmented union of states with no real power of enforcement. In fact, although the Empire existed, no one sat on the throne as Emperor.
Only in the 2nd Century BU did someone sit on the Cerpaline throne, Emperor Pennelysle of the House Sindara. Before that, he was only Prince of the City of Garina, only having gained the throne by becoming de facto ruler of the most strategically-important island in the region – the Leviathan’s Isle. However, even then, he was somewhat powerless against the numerous squabbling and also-ambitious princes and kings and lords of the rest of the region. His son was even worse off. He had barely any power as Emperor. He instead relied on his Prime Minister, Freian Victorinne.
By the start of the 1st Century BU, House Victorinne became de facto rulers of the realm. They began to expand the Empire’s actual power and began to unify the region under the control of Kraken’s Island. Within a few decades, Kraken’s Isle had political control of Cerpaline save 2 of the most powerful kingdoms.
However, this was when the tables seemed to turn against the Victorinnes. Prime Minister Calian Victorinne made the mistake of antagonizing the Empress Geraldine Sindara I. Late into her reign, she was able to develop a method to fight back against the Victorinne encroachment of the throne and demanded Calian’s resignation. He decided to contest the Empress’ claim and with Parliament at his side along with several powerful members of the Empire. Geraldine called for support from the 2 remaining unabsorbed kingdoms. And thus the Final War of Unification began. It lasted ten years and ended with the Sindaran Dynasty extinct, the remaining opposition to a unified Empire crushed and the Victorinnes triumphant. This was 0 IE, the beginning of the Victorian Empire.
Today, it has been 29 years since the unification of the Victorian Empire and the First Emperor – Calian Victorinne I has already passed away and buried in the grandest ceremony yet seen for a deceased Emperor. In his reign, our united nation had made great advances in technology and governance – among them the improvement of the steam engine, the abolition of the last remnants of the feudal aristocracy, the strengthening of the modernized central government and the development of many new experimental technologies such as airships and Inter-Regional Howitzers (IRHs).

Description:

The Victorian Empire’s position is characterized by small and large islands mostly dominated by islands. Some of these mountains are rich in minerals, particularly to the east near the mainland. The Victorian People have historically been heavily reliant on fishing for their food though they also hold some arable land to the west and east on the mainland. Also, due to their strategic position, the Empire, particularly the core cities of Corrin, Cerpaline, Garina and Prias, has become a notable economic power.
As such, they have also grown powerful on the high seas, with three ‘navies’ – the Home Sea Guard which patrols the Cerpaline Sea to the North and the Home Islands, the Merchants’ Guard – the anti-piracy fleet and the Victorian Imperial Navy – the actual navy. Their military presence on land is mainly the Home Islands Guard – the military police force which enforces the law in conjunction with the local police and the Victorian Imperial Army – the actual army which is further divided into two armies – the East and West Armies.

Foreign Relations:

None yet, the Foreign Affairs Ministry awaits new contact from other nations (i.e. OOC me for interactions...)
We've mostly been able to avoid being screwed up the behind since we're pretty isolated, the nearest big city being Honolulu. Nonetheless, in keeping with the fairness of the game, I'd given myself one disadvantage: I lack manpower. I expect more men coming in from Progress United and Birthright's installations from around the world, the first batch coming from San Francisco and the rest of North America by vaccuum tube.

Phase 1: Salvation – INITIATION

At the New York Gate…
Near EXODUS Gate 1, 10 minutes before Project Launch

Progress United, being the global super-company that it was, had HQs in all the major cities of the world. From Manila to London, there were huge blue skyscrapers gracefully reaching up to the heavens. New York was no exception in fact, with the exception of their Honolulu HQ, it was the tallest and largest of their properties. Or at least, those publicly recognized as properties of Progress United. It was 121 floors of greatness, displaying their corporation’s pride and power to the people of North America.

Yet beneath those hundred and twenty-one floors, beneath even the numerous parking spaces of the building was a sprawling complex which was by now near-deserted. The only men that remained of the ten thousand workers in this massive building were a hundred men patrolling the lower floors. All of them were dressed in black cloaks with wide-brimmed black hats and masks which filtered out all gas. 3 of them stood in front of a massive screen in the center of the sprawling concrete basement.

“So, recap: Our task here is to remain until 10 minutes post-Exodus. We will maintain the communications systems throughout the city from our building for as long as we’re here and we’ll broadcast everything we can capture with our drones to the rest of the world.”

“And if whatever they’re hiding get down here?” Another asked.

“We fight”

“Until those 10 minutes are up?” Their third companion asked.

“Until our job is done. Don’t forget, we need to seal this place up so the other locations can’t be reached.”

“And when we’re done?”

“If we finish, we proceed down the tubes to our San Francisco HQ where we rendezvous with the other security groups from Toronto and Houston, then we seal off the whole network there and leave for Honolulu. That, all in all will take us about 6 hours. 12, maybe considering possible delays in the tubes and the evac.”

The two men crossed one of their arms across their chest and bowed.

“Understood” and with that, they left.

Soon, it was a minute before midnight. He stood there, looking at the map and waited. A red blip appeared somewhere in Russia but he paid it no mind.

Then, every EXODUS site on the planet lit up. Red blips appeared at every gate.

“It’s begun.” Suddenly, alarms went off all around the building. One of his comrades ran up to him,

“Sir, something is attacking the surface. What do we do?”

“Seal this place shut. It’s not our duty right now to clean this mess up. It’s Legacy’s problem now.”

Area SALVATION, Midnight, New Year’s Eve

“So it’s begun…” Arthur said as he sat back and watched the carnage unfold on the screen before him. He clenched his fist as he muttered,

“Legacy…”

“Sir, there are aerial and waterborne enemies appearing from the gate.” A voice from an opened channel said.

Crap, it’s too early, he thought. He hesitated for a few seconds while he gathered his thoughts.

“I guess we have no choice. Activate the SALVATION System.”

“Yes sir!”

Then, a window appeared onscreen.

It read, ‘Birthright Administrative Council - Channel Request force-accepted’ in bright red letters.

“Director, are you sure this has to be done?”

“There’s no other way” Arthur slowly shook his head.

“So, all defensive measures then?”

“Yes, recall all our troops and have them brought here.”

“As you say.”

Sirens began to blare around the island the complex sat on. Slowly, the ground beneath began to rise.

That night, the somewhat calm waters of the Pacific were heavily disturbed as columns of water were displaced by a single, massive stone wall reinforced with sheets of metal armor. A ring of walls 250 kilometers in radius and 250 meters above sea level with the island at its center suddenly rose from the deep. Then, another ring of walls, 125 meters high also rose from the depths with a radius of 500 kilometers.

Every 5 kilometers along the inner walls, a turret mounted with guns stood manned by two people along with 8 main citadels equally spaced from each other. At the center stood what used to be an island, then a 750-meter-high tower.

However, despite these formidable defenses, the fortress was severely understaffed. Though its food supplied could possibly last them decades, the five thousand men garrisoned there at that moment and even with the seven and a half thousand more expected to arrive from Honolulu, they were still lacking the manpower to be able to man all the defenses properly.

At an artificial island 2000 miles NE from Honolulu

Area SALVATION-5

A young man sat in a red, cushioned chair. Staring at the blank screen in front of him, he sighed. Clapping his hands together, he said

"Open Legacy Public Broadcast Channel"

At that, the screen lit up and showed him a countdown with bird's eye views of several locations around the world in insets around it.

"30 minutes eh?"

The young man slammed his fist into the chair, frustrated and angry.

"They ruin my family's legacy, discredit it for what it's done and do this with the final product?"

He lifted his hand from the armrest and rubbed its thumb and index finger against his forehead,

"Asshats" he muttered.

Suddenly, a male voice came from the screen,

"Director, the head of the Exodus Espionage Team wants to speak to you. Shall I put him on the l-"

"Yes, I don't want to watch the Exodus countdown anyway"

The image onscreen changed to a golden S surrounded by a circle as a young female voice came from it.

"Arthur"

"Marian"

Arthur felt relieved of his anger upon hearing the voice of his colleague. She was the daughter of one of Birthright's Intelligence Chiefs and was quite close to him.

"I feel I should be calling you Director, shouldn't I?"

"Call me any way you want."

"Nothing weird yet," The young woman across the line said.

"There shouldn't be anything weird. I doubt even Legacy knows what's behind those gates they want to open so badly."

"Hold on a minute, I'm getting something." It was quiet for a while. In that time, Arthur was able to grab a glass of water and a small muffin from the nearby kitchen. He silently ate his small midnight snack, waiting for his comrade's response.

"Oh dear."

"Hmm?"

"Y-you know how we were able to turn some of the Exodus workers to us?"

"Yeah"

"I had them plant listening bugs in the facilities a few weeks ago..."

"Annnd?" Arthur said, now slightly disturbed.

"Crap, I am hearing right" Arthur was practically on the edge of his seat. Awaiting her response

"One of the listeners just passed me a recording from just a few minutes ago." She gulped. "Some scientists were killed earlier on-site at New York"

"What the hell are they doing?"

"No- no, that's not the worst part. They were talking abo- about, how the entire thing could and probably will - blow up"

Arthur gulped.

"I'm having all our important assets near Exodus sites relocated, where are you now?"

"At our Honolulu Headquarters"

"Stay there, Espionage units at Exodus sites are not to withdraw until 15 minutes before Exodus. Until then keep them watching"

"Yes sir"

He closed the channel with a swipe and opened a new channel with all the Operation Officers of Birthright.

"Gentlemen, we have little time to waste. I want all our assets, including Progress United's, near any Exodus sites relocated elsewhere for the time being. Also, I recommend we ready the Counter-Project. Heighten our security levels until further notice. I get the feeling this is gonna be a long night."
Exodus Counter-Project: GENESIS
-AREA: Salvation-
“To Protect and Provide”

History:

When Legacy was first established, another splinter group formed in its wake. They were made up of people who had worked behind the shadows and assisted in building Legacy but were thrown away once their goals had been achieved. This splinter group was known as “Birthright”. This group was; however, able to siphon some resources off Legacy and founded the super-corporation “Progress United” which became massively successful and was able to purchase a large area of the Pacific Ocean including a group of small islands.
We are Birthright. We who had lost everything despite all we had given to make the project a success. We remain to reclaim that Birthright, our Inheritance. Well, at least, we did.

We were always aware of Project EXODUS. EXODUS was a plan we were supposed to ensure would never come to fruition. During those days before Legacy’s foundation, we were among those who ardently spoke against EXODUS. And that is what landed us here – defending what we thought was right, what we thought would be best for mankind.

When they announced it to the public, they were also waiting for us to come out of hiding. They knew we would speak out once more but we stood down. Cowardly, yes, but we determined it would be the best strategy in the end. Better us here in the present to protect the world from what already is than us destroyed in the past failing to prevent something that would be.

Progress United was nothing more than a façade. We were already preparing weapons to use against the unknown. During that half-century of preparation, we created a stronghold. We created Salvation.

Counter-Project GENESIS was our plan to preserve what we could of humanity. Phase 1 was Salvation. Phase 2 is… well, we’ll just see.

How’d we make it you ask? Salvation. What’s Salvation? Well, you’ll see.

General Information:

Survival Method:

Hiding out in the middle of the Pacific. We do have a stronghold prepared but we never expected how many, how strong or when the invasion was to take place. Our stronghold was built assuming the threat would come a long while AFTER Exodus opened, not exactly when it opened. We were also assuming our threat would probably be human, in the form of Legacy so our fort probably won’t hold out well against the Enemy.
Location:

We hold several islands in the Pacific along with an underwater base. A pretty big one too.

Technology:

About the same as everyone else… save for some prototype [HIGHLY UNSTABLE EXPERIMENTAL] weapons (laser cannons, railguns, coil guns).

Military Capabilities:

Majority of their forces are Progress United's corporate paramilitary. There are 30,000 personnel garrisoned at Salvation and 430,000 worldwide (a massive super-corporation does need a lot of protection, especially when they plan to take down the equally massive organization that launched the space race).

They also hold 500 tanks and 250 units of aircraft all stationed at Salvation. They also hold 2 aircraft carriers along with a 50 vessel fleet.

Well, here's my nation sheet. I await approval

I'm boooooorrreeedddd

Whatever the heck happened...

Anywho, I kinda changed my CS earlier to display the empire's alignment as being 'morally ambiguous' since I thought saying Good or Evil was too shallow and strict...

Me is waiting for a response by @Luna_Maria... No pressure though
I'm technically working with a humanity that escaped from Earth via arc so... Does it still count?
The Coming Storm
Olix System
Victorian Colony 1 FTL Jump from Home System

Division Admiral Anthony Gallant’s PoV:

The enemy ships jumped into the system without warning. Four hundred massive ships were suddenly in the midst of their ships.

“Sir, the calculations were correct, they warped right where we expected them to.” The ship’s captain said, ecstatic.

“Broadcast the signal to fire. I want a broadside volley.” The admiral calmly replied.
However, a communications officer onboard yelled,

“We have a problem, swarms of fighters emerging from each of the enemy ships.”
They’re carriers? The admiral was surprised, their expectations were for a fight against capital ships, not fighters.

“Hold Fire! Re-aim all our weapons, ensure none of those fighters reach us.”
A communications channel suddenly opened on his holopad. It was Louis Farrel.

“Gallant, they’ve got fighters!” The old man yelled through the channel.

“Tell the entire fleet to move back! I want only my division, yours and the 3rd through 5th to stay in place. We’ll focus on the fighters; the rest will focus on the carriers with their long range weapons.”

“Affirmative”

The channel closed and Gallant focused back to his ship.

The fighters were only a while away.

“Open fire!”

At that moment, every ship in the 1st Division opened a broadside against their small yet numerous enemy. The 2nd through 5th divisions followed swiftly with their own barrage.

Hundreds of beams shot out from the 500 or so ships they had along with the round shots of their kinetic batteries, they would have to wait a while to see their effects. Meanwhile, the sensor display indicated the semicircle formed by the rest of the fleet to be expanding outwards with only their ships left in a line facing the enemy.

A new voice came through on the holopad “Sir, the Experimental Divisions’ commanders are asking about what they should do with theirs.”

“How many of their railguns do they have armed?”

“2 of 3, sir”

“Their focus should be eliminating each carrier until we can identify the mothership.”

“So, open fire?”

“Do it now! Fire all the weapons they have, target the carriers!” Gallant angrily yelled.

“Yes sir!”

Meanwhile, the rest of the fleet was still moving back but they fired whatever weapons they had that could reach the Zergs in range.
Admiral Gallant reached into his pocket and pulled out a watch. He looked at the open space before them where the beams were still traveling toward their targets.

“Sir, awaiting orders for the next broadside” The captain said, noticing the ship’s armaments were reloaded.

“We are not fighting wars with broadsides anymore, my good friend. Done are the days when we waited to deliver large devastating strikes against the enemy. Now,” He said as. “Now, we do not know our enemy. We do not know how to strike them where it hurts. So now we hurt them as much as we can! Fire at will!”

The beams had by now apparently hit the enemy ships. But now, just as the Zerg were in range of their weapons, they were also in range of the Zerg’s. They could see the enemy fighters’ weapons – thermonuclear weapons and lasers. And they could see the incoming barrage of bombs and lasers.

“Dear me, we should be ready for some turbulence…” The admiral said, quite startled by the enemy’s armaments.

General Overview

The 1st – 5th fleets are forming an arc focused on acting as anti-drone defenses whilst the rest of the fleet has backed away, instead firing on the carriers with their long range weapons.
The experimental weapons are ready to fire (except for the bio-missiles, they’re awaiting fire orders).

@Luna_Maria

I take by the recent IC post, you haven't fired yet? Because in my next post I'll be firing my own weapons assuming I haven't taken damage yet...

Also, welcome back. I've been waiting for this attack a long while now.

Will wait 1 day (until 7/25, it's 7/24 now) for a response before posting... I just wanna have some clear context.

Thx...
