I keep coming back here very so often, as if it would make my wanting to return any better. I don't know why that would be. I would just disappear again and regret it again, I'm sure.

I'm just... really in a bad time. I feel awful. I'm don't think I have the strength of will to show my face here again after letting everyone down.
I think before our first fight begins, I'm going to take a bit of time to flesh out and refurbish how Caliburn's weapon system operates a bit. There should be no major conceptual changes, just more descriptive detail for a better idea of how it works.
"-residents local and from abound are confused and concerned as to the cause of these deaths. Some officials have stated that the likely cause is the extreme summer weather combined with the reflective surfaces of office buildings and solar panels. These factors combined are capable of easily causing fatal heatstroke, even through protective covering. Some people claim to have witnessed the events of these deaths disagree, and instead reference a supernatural cause-"
Xander only paused for a few moments to overhear the news broadcast from the wall-mounted television. Not even a full day had passed and there was already much concern and controversy over what exactly happened that moment at noon yesterday. The most sensible source cited was the abundance of hot weather and reflective surfaces inciting fatal heatstroke; regardless of the truth, citizens were encouraged to not remain in open areas for long periods of time, and to stay protected and hydrated at all times. Never mind the fact that many people were privy to do that anyways.
The victim continued on his way, bags of chilled foodstuff in each hand, trying to remain low profile. It was unclear how many people were aware that he was a survivor of this sudden influx of death; among those people could be the culprit, that mysterious voice atop Chromatus Tower. He swore every so often he could hear an echo of that man gone laughing mad, the insane cackling drifting on the wind...
Xander shook his head and redoubled his pace. He needed to get home and fix himself up. And after that... what was he thinking!? This person somehow racked up a death toll in the thousands in a split second. No matter what, Xander was damn lucky to be alive; so why was he trying to challenge his life again by trying to track down this person? Any other sensible man might do well to go home, resume life as best as possible, and steer clear of Chromatus Tower for the rest of his days.
He could dish out the truth like punches and kicks, but how well was he actually able to take it himself? Xander shook his head again and sighed. Maybe he was more scarred than that disappearing wound let on. "I must be going damn crazy," he mumbled, a few blocks away from his small condo.
There was something rather creepy about that old professor, Lora decided. Maybe it was how eager Lorenzo seemed, or his near-childish giggling at the prospects of what these new cadets were going to do. Executive Officer or not, the least he could do is act a bit more serious and professional in front of the new blood. The lot of them were literally child soldiers expected and trained to control experimental machine frames with which the entirely of the human race was depending on. "Service with a Smile," one could say, but there was also, "Too Much of a Good Thing."
As the superior officers departed, Lora looked around the other pilots. Seemed to be a population of boys over ladies, but in this day and age that was hardly something of merit at all. What they all held in common was talent; not a lot of trainees ever got this far, much less maturing teenagers. The other factor was whether or not they were here of their own accord, for it has been proven that working towards something is easier and better when you want it. And by far, the common want in the present time was to get rid of the Cruxi.
A couple of people spoke up, started giving names as they were suggested. "Well, while we're doing it now..." Lora half-mumbled, turning to face the whole of the group. "My name's Lora, pilot for the Caliburn. I trust we're all great pilots to get this far, so congratulations for that," she announced, almost sounding half-hearted given how level she kept her voice. The others continued, listing off names and their own plucky comments. One of the other ladies, Krista, started to rattle off what she thought of the upcoming operation, and gave an idea of an event that the group could bring to unfold.
"Call me the cynical one, but I think you're missing the point a bit," Lora commented on Krista's suggestion. "You have to think of this whole thing, not just the combat, like a mission in which the aim is to declare one of us the team leader. It's not just about seeing who can give orders well; this is determining who has the composition to best manage, support, and figurehead a close group of allies." She paused for a moment, then added, "Think of it like your Synchro Rate. The more stable and composed you are, the more in-tune and in control you prove to be."
"In fact..." Lora paused for a moment, pursing her lips as if questioning what she was about to say. "If I had to guess, I would say this mock battle is just a field test of our Synchro Rates in combat." It was a bated thought, more simply spoken out loud rather than announcing to someone. It was little else than a provoking thought, and maybe it was wrong.
Also, here's the synchro rates for everyone: Alexei got lucky, and has unlocked his Special Ability. Alexei, Lora and Elora will hear incoherent, barely audible sounds while piloting.
I didn't realize it earlier, but Lora and Elora? Uncanny naming conventions we got here.
Otherwise, our synchro rates seem to speak volumes about our characters (and perhaps their mecha as well). As for the top 3, I presume those sounds will become a factor later. Certainly, strange noises are a possible concern for anybody to be hearing.
Phantom's well-placed strike lopped the weakened dog's head clean off, where it suddenly stopped mid-flight. Notably confused, Phantom wasn't able to avoid the ferocious attack from the other Doberman, the mad dog barreling the cybernetic ninja over and gnashing at his neck. Reflexively, fueled by adrenaline alone, Phantom managed to get the beast off so as to resume the confrontation.
Panting and bleeding badly, the ninja was barely aware of the distant sound of firearms, and the panicked voice of the High Summoner, before the announcements went quiet and the lights died. Strange indeed, but the prime concern was still the dog. Muttering a muted curse, Phantom shut off the lights on his helmet and attempted to launch himself into a dash, aiming for the throng of allies. He was in no condition to risk continued fighting, but at least he was aware of what systems of his to improve next.
As for the loss of lights, Phantom would need to reconfigure his vision cameras so that he could operate regardless of environmental obstacles like these. That is to say, he would do so when the Doberman was dead and he was not. Action: Attempt to withdraw from combat.
This RP is certainly getting traction very quickly. How many people before we begin?
Personally, I think we could go ahead and start soon. Eight characters is plenty, and any more than that starts to get a bit troublesome to manage, in my experience.
That it does. I think a couple of people might've missed the memo of the OOC going up, maybe, so just in case, I put up another announcement in the interest check.
I feel like Ariamis's announcement might've been a little brief, so in case anyone skimmed over it, he's got the OOC up here. If you've already got your sheet accepted, go ahead and put it in the character section.
"I'm still alive, and I can still fight. Shouldn't that be all that matters, at this point?"
-PILOT-
Name: Lora Shinkai
(obviously not as naked as this)
Age: 15
Personality: Lora is unique for having a sort of deadpan confidence, seeming be reserved on the outside but in reality being very empowered and sure of her capability. Of course, she's not headstrong, either, and in fact proves to be rather patient. Off the field, she performs small efforts and tasks in hopes to play a little more than her part. The most emotion she can be noted showing is largely in combat, as if she has some deep-seated feelings regarding the Cruxi (and boy, does she).
Motives: Repel the Cruxi and ensure a better future.
Background: People who say Lora went through hell don't realize that good people shouldn't go to hell.
The young Lora grew on a colony somewhat on the farther reaches of human society. Her family was one of the most esteemed on that world, and not because they had luxury. No, it was because they shared their luxury, working to create and distributor new technologies to benefit the people and ensure what happened to Earth would not so easily repeat itself. Lora was exposed to this and more, and so learned the better qualities of life and what they meant.
To say it all changed when the Cruxi appeared seemed cliche and inaccurate. Within 24 hours, it all disappeared - homes, families and lives alike. A still-young Lora and her younger brother were one of the few that managed to make it, of the single escape ship that managed to survive the ordeal. She wished she could stop crying, that after she cried all her tears, her voice went hoarse, and her heart ached the worst, it would stop. But the pain never stopped.
Lora practically begged to be enlisted in the project to weaponize Framewerks. She wanted so many things, but the only ones she could hope to get were revenge, and hope itself. She would gladly learn to take life if it meant no more had to suffer like she did. She would become stronger, far stronger than she was on that day of defeat, as strong as she needed to be to take down the enemy. And even if she died doing it, Lora was going to bring peace and happiness back to every last human who deserved it.
Notable Deaths: Pretty much anyone she was related to by blood, except her brother. A couple of her close friends also didn't make it.
Other Things: People think that Lora doesn't show her emotions because she is very scarred inside. While they are partly right, she also represses her emotion to ensure she can remain stable during Framewerk combat. It works for the most part, but there are times where she can get a little loose.
-FRAMEWERK-
Code Name: Caliburn
Primary Weapons System: The right arm is equipped with an X-02 Lightstriker, a particle cannon with a trio of edged prongs circling the barrel. The weapon accelerates a payload of Tau particles while charging up to one million volts of energy along the prongs, before the whole blast is released in a high-impact bolt. The Lightstriker has a great yield with adept stopping power, but is slow to fire and has difficulty piercing through armor. When you're given the ample time to charge the cannon to full capacity, however, that shot is guaranteed to put at least a smoldering crater in most any physical armor imaginable. In the event of a close-range hazard, the weapon's prongs are reinforced to act as an emergency melee weapon. Prolonged use is ill-advised, as damage may dramatically hamper the Lightstriker's stability and risk further damage if fired.
Secondary Weapons Systems: Equipped on each shoulder blade is a paired GAU-19 heavy rotary cannon and a TOR-VN railgun system. In the event a pilot wants a quicker, more traditional method of dishing out damage, they will switch primary weapons control to this weapons array. It is then armed by flipping them over onto a set of shoulder mounts, a relatively brief process provided there is ample room for it. The chainguns and railguns are fired in their respective pairs, the former more rapid and culling while the latter heavier and more accurate; however, both take a bit of time to wind up before they can effectively fire, however less so than the Lightstriker. For safety reasons, the Lightstriker is powered down (even though at that time it cannot be directly controlled anyway) and the upper range of movement for the arms is locked down.
Also equipped is a pair of infantry-grade missile launchers on the collarbone in front of the shoulder, and a reinforced shield unit on the left arm. Both are designed to be used independently of the major weapons systems - the shield unit especially is designed to withstand most heavier blows, while reinforcing the right arm enough to enable a fair medium of punching and bashing.
Frame Armor Type: Medium-Heavy ; designed to be a powerful weapons platform with a minor in tanking. Solid Synchro Rate: 100% [MAX!!!] Special Ability:-CLASSIFIED-
