Aoba stays silent through the telling and it hurts Kuro to see that searching, that yearning in the angel's eyes. The demon can read the question behind that gaze, and while the ache of it is there, his lack of heart makes it nothing more than a dull pressure. It's at times like this that the lack of heart comes to the fore in Kuro's mind, wondering how he would feel right now if he had one, seeing such pain and longing in the eyes of one he cares about. Would he simply care about this angel? Would he feel more strongly, or differently towards the creature? He has no answer to these questions and as the tale ends and he waits for Aoba's response he lets his mind settle in the now, in the reality, rather than taking a trip through wonderland.

The angel's simple words covey far more than he could imagine. Being demons, the lost and disjointed thought processes are easy to spot. It's at times like this, in humans at least, that demons can easily find their way into the human's soul. Being so lost, the very foundations shaken beneath them, it is easy to slip in and provide that footing for them and sway their souls without them noticing. However, as Dani watches this happen, his own desire to slip in subverted by the fact that such an attempt would end up with his little brother doing far more than just chopping his wings off, his own mind runs wild wondering why Kuro himself isn't doing it.

Turning to look at the taller male his eyes go a little wide. 'What's wrong with you!? This is your chance! Move in, trap him with you. You're a demon aren't you, why don't you act?! You want him, I know you do, and you'll never get a chance like this again. . . .Kurotama. . . What. . . .?'

Kuro can feel the eyes on him but he remains focused on his meal now that Aoba is focusing on his own. He knows what Dani is thinking, and indeed, his very nature is doing battle with his conscious over the urge to slip in when the way is so easily traversed. It's open, it's there, and his whole being it telling him it's the right thing to do. However, he just. . . .Can't. Glancing up at the comment he smiles and nods before scooping up the last few bite. 'No, not this way. I don't want in that way. That way is cheating, and as any demon can tell you, slipping int hat way does not make a real bond. It's something that can be broken, and indeed, the soul corrupted will itself know the wrongness of it eventually. All it would take is one meeting with the old man and Aoba would know I was acting falsely, and I would lose him. . .'

Turning to look at the angel as he cleans up Kuro tilts his head to the side at the question as Dani laughs in the background. Waving at the smaller demon to shut up, which does little good, Kuro answers with a slightly puzzled tone. “I thought that would be obvious.” Grabbing up the now empty glasses he joins Aoba in the kitchen and begins filling the sink with soapy water. The dishes from the day are not too many, but it is time to get them all clean none the less. “God decides what's right and what's wrong, what's good and what's evil. Since Papa defied God and was labeled evil, he's done his best to fulfill what his father thinks of him.” He looks to Dani who is just now coming down from his laughing.

“While Dani and I are true half breeds and know that what we do is, how you say, wrong, demons of any other kind find it the natural order of things, since Lucifer tells them that's how things are suppose to be. To them, evil is right, so they are evil. Papa has never stopped trying to live up to his father's expectations, and since Yahweh labeled him evil, he is evil.” He shrugs, turning off the water. “God decided what was evil, so you'd have to ask him why he considers certain things evil.”

From the other room Dani calls out, “Oh, and by the way, not all the things you think of as evil are things He considers evil, that's just the propaganda you angels have developed over the years to cover things He considers neither good nor evil. Angels are really black and while, while demons know there is such a thing as shades of gray. He doesn't actually see that way, we know that much.”

Kuro nods in agreement. “Murder is evil, killing is not. He doesn't care who one has sex with, thought the church will try and tell you different, and I know several angels who agree with the church's views on it. Marriage is not some sacred thing for men and woman only, it is a pagan ritual that represents the bonding of souls and the sharing of life.” Shrugging he looks to Aoba. “Most of these issues are earth things heaven bound angels know nothing about, but on earth these are hot issues that the angels have discussed at length since Yahweh will not give them guidance on such things. . . .”

Fenrir continues watching silently and as more and more things pour out of the demon's mouth he finds him brain shutting down. 'There. . . There is nothing I can do for Aoba right now, and. . . And I can't think properly any more. . . .' With that final thought he wraps the mirror in it's cloth, the fabric effectively working like an off switch, and sets it on his bead side table. His thoughts have slowed to a very slow crawl and with nothing else that can help him this evening, he slips into bed and turns out the light, deciding that the best course of action is to sleep on it.
*Hangs head* So sorry I'm useless. . . .

Yays, way to go! That up there was just me letting my brain relax, nothin' special. I have a naturally poetic mind :P

Whoo! *Waits patiently*
*Throws random creative thing*

On a sunlit night at the top of the world, a man walks alone out on to the plains. Overhead the crows call, their white wings giving the illusion of ghosts drifting across the tangerine skies. He lifts his voice in a call that in ancient times would bring forth great beasts to aid him in his quest, however all that responds in the spirit of a great cat. Like a specter it stalks to him, and taking his soul into it's large jaws moves away towards the sunrise. The man falls dead, his life already forgotten by a past of mediocrity, but his future grows ever brighter as once more his spirit rides into the sun.
Ah, I see. Anyways, I throw luck you way! *Fling*
Ws?
The nightmare denizens know the pain Seishu is in. They understand it, to a point, and in their own way support their guardian. The little touches to draw comfort from him have an added feeling of tenderness. Seishu appreciate the gestures, the soft subtle caring feeling so familiar and comforting despite the pain still raging through him. 'These are my little ones, and this is their way. They understand, and they trust me. No matter what, they know I do for them only what is best for them. They do not fear me, and my anger comforts them. My fury is something they have come to rely on, and my temper is something they are familiar with. I recall thinking that, when first trapped in the dream realm, how my anger seems unending and without purpose. I know now that it has a purpose, and while strong, it has an end. My anger then, I was unable to express it, which is why it never seemed to dissipate. . .'

The Nightmare Guardian must always be strong, and as long as he is being true to himself, he will be seen as such. Though harsh and unyielding in most matters, even his kindness is seen as a strength. Even though he covers his pain right now, even weeping openly would be seen as bravery in the eyes of his underlings. He however has never had the need to weep before his denizens, at least not often. The few times he has the denizens themselves were often breaking under their own negative emotions and took comfort and courage in the sight. Seishu's feeling, so closely matching theirs and not crushing him, would give them the strength to beat back the negative emotions.

Kaila leads Jentou a little ways away, off towards the woods a bit so they can have some privacy, and long the rout Seishu had been talking so that he can keep an eye on the guardian as long as possible. Even with his drive to care for his brother, Kaila never loses his drive to be there for his commander. Jentou on the other hand seems more of a blank slate than usual, his normally congenial face now free of any emotion whatsoever. Kaila gently begins cleaning him off, knowing he will need a full bath later, but for now he does the best ha can with a spare cloth. “I'm here Jentou, my brother. You are to live, as is Master Seishu's will, and I will be here with you for all times.” Wiping the tear streaks from his brother's cheeks his stomach drops as fresh ones fall, the final shock of the breaking wearing off.

Slipping forward the golden haired male wraps his arms around his brother's neck, burying his face against his collar bone and letting his feeling roll over him. A long string of apologies tumble from between trembling lips and despite the roughness of his voice Kaila hears every word. Mimicking Seishu's action Kaila still his brother's tongue with a kiss and whispers, “No my brother, do not speak. You have always had such a lovely voice, I would hate for it to be ruined now.”

Even through his sorrow Jentou finds his rather airy smile and nods, his brother's love coming through loud and clear. As Seishu slips past, rather than recoiling as one would expect after the pain the guardian caused him, Jentou's eyes seek him out, the ripples of pain coming off of him something new. He's always felt connected to the guardian, as every denizen has, however he sees it all in a new light now that his soul has be broken open to the possibility. Kaila follows his line of sight and moments later tenses as Enasi breaks from his guard. Despite his urge to jump up and stop the guardian his brother's grip on him along with his trust in Master Seishu keeps him in place. 'What is he. . . .?'

A ripple runs through the crowd around him and his head tilts to the side as he feels the disturbance coming from behind. Feeling Enasi moving closer he stops and an instant later his counterpart has latched on to him. Several waves of different emotions cascade through him; confusion, pain, comfort, and sorrow being the main ones. It is all he can do to keep himself still, waiting to feel what it is, to hear, something, anything. . .Since crossing over Seishu sense of his other half has dampened, the negative energy about them clogging his senses a bit and he'd had a fleeting touch of amusement earlier when he recalled making fun of Enasi for not being able to sense him properly after he'd first arrived.

Now however, this dampening causes him no end of near panic. So use to knowing an understanding Enasi's feelings, being in the dark even for such a short time when he himself is feeling so strongly, it's torture.

"You'll be okay. . . I'm here for you."

Those words crack through his body like a whip and after a long moment of silence he lets out a breath he did not know he was holding. Soundlessly he turns inside Enasi's embrace and with eyes full of such a jumble of emotions that they almost sparkle he looks upon his beloved and smiles gently. Instead of saying anything he wraps his arms around the smaller male and hold him tight, burying his face in those soft scarlet locks. He stays there for several minutes, taking such comfort from just having Enasi there with him and not hating him for his nature. A soft song comes to his throat and has he begins to hum it, those around him take up to tune.

Soon the entire camp is humming along, a few crystal clear voice singing the actual lyrics. It is a song they all know, the lullaby most of them went through their childhood falling asleep to, and a song Enasi himself has professed to enjoying. The chorus of voices sing perfectly together, each note in perfect time and pitch. For a fleeting instant Seishu thinks how something like this would be impossible in the dream realm, such precision built over several lifetimes and only capable from ones with as much discipline as those who dwell in the nightmare realm. He has no doubt that the dream denizens could sing together, but something like this seems almost unique and for now, Seishu chooses to believe it so.

Looking down at Enasi again, leaning back just enough so he can look into those multicolored eyes Seishu flicks his eyes over to indicate the camp and whispers, “So, not everything here is bad and painful. We have our own kind of beauty. . .” With that he leans in and kisses his counterpart. The kiss begins soft, but as the eyes on them seem to grow in number, and approval, Seishu can't help but draw Enasi into a heated kiss, his grip on the smaller male firm, but gentle. It isn't until he feels the need to breath that Seishu pulls back, kissing Enasi on the forehead before looking around at his underlings and waggling his eyebrows suggestively. The song fails as the ones who can see him begin laughing and pass back the word of what they'd witnessed.

Tiski giggles openly and looks over at Kaila and his brother, mimicking Seishu's motions so they know what he's just did and why everybody is laughing now. Jentou cover his mouth to avoid laughing along and Kaila rolls his eyes, his guardian's antic seemingly never ending. With Seishu and Enasi now back beside one another the team relaxes and Kaila calls Tyar over, asking the shadow to fetch some clothes for Jentou. Unlike his brother, the soft expression Jentou prefers much less Gothic garb and Tyar sets out to find something that suits him, after excusing itself with a bow to Seishu. Tiski slides forward and without any crudeness asks, “So Master Seishu, what's it like being with a dream? Get dizzy at all and fail in your duties?” He tone is only mildly teasing and she keeps her gaze on Seishu while the rest of the team present alternates between shaking their heads and grinning.
*Pats on shoulder* You do what you feel best. I'm glad this will remove some of your stress.
'He's flipping out. Well, of course he's flipping out, this goes against everything he's ever believed in. We're telling him that their worst enemy is one of their brothers and that his most trusted and beloved has been hiding this from him and all of his kind. It only makes sense that he's more than a little disturbed' Kuro sets his spoon down carefully as Aoba asks in almost pure panic a tumble of short questions that have fairly long answers, and no delicate way to answer them. Shifting Kuro looks up, waiting until he meets Aoba's eye before speaking in a soft but firm voice.

“Back when God was creating earth, he informed his angels, who loved him more than anything and would serve him even onto their own destruction, that once he was finished that there was to be a change in this thinking. They were no longer to love him most. It was to be their task to love and care for his newest creation: Man.”

~*~*~*~*~

At the sound of Kuro's soft calm voice, a voice he's hearing for the first time with clear ears, Fenrir slows his frantic attempts to find out the truth of things and instead stands still in the middle of his room. His eyes are fixed on a point on his wall, unwilling to move closer to the storyteller. Instead he stands, and waits, a part of him still trying desperately to deny what he is hearing.

~*~*~*~*~

Kuro us careful not to waver, plunging through the tale with a calm even voice, his gaze never shifting. “Several angels did not like this idea, and back then there were only a handful of angels, and only three arch angels.” He blinks slowly, trying to make things as clear as possible. “The arch angels kept themselves a little separate from the others, so when one of them came to them to tell them of his displeasure at the announcement many were in awe and unsure, being knocked off their solid footing and easily swayed. The three arch angels were leader for them, and while Michel and Gabriel were willing to submit to their father's will, Lucifer, or as he was known then, Samael, loved his father too much and could not abide the order.”

Dani nods vaguely. His eyes move over to his brother, never actually having heard the full story, only knowing that their Papa was an angel who defied this “God” for a good reason. Well, a good reason to him at least. Taking a sip of his drink Kuro goes on. “These new creations were to be perfect, made in God's image and without flaw. The only thing that could corrupt them, was something all sentient beings since take for granted: Knowledge. As I'm sure even you angels know, there was a tree placed in the garden on earth that contained that very thing, and man was instructed not to eat of it.”

~*~*~*~*~

At the familiarity of the story Fenrir shifts his gaze, even going so far as to take a few steps towards his bed where the mirror lay. As his eyes fall on the image, Aoba and the two demons sitting peacefully together, his heart cracks slightly. Both the angel and the demon on the couch are watching the taller one intently as he tells his tale, and Fenrir can not help but be pained at the sight. 'No, Aoba, don't listen, it's a lie!' However the arch angel knows that isn't true. Some part, deep down in side, in a part of him he refuses to acknowledge, he can feel the truth of it.

~*~*~*~*~

“Well, after speaking with the angels, swaying a few of him to at least a middle ground, Lucifer went to earth to prove that these beings were not worth the love their father was asking them to show. After all, God is perfect and without flaw, and if they were truly worthy, then they would be also, no? So, with all f heaven watching, and I mean all of it, my father took the form of the serpent, and with no more effort than a wolf mother nudging her newborn cub to her teat, he convinced Eve to take that which had been forbidden them.” Dani can't help smirking at this, loving the imagery that humans are so easily corrupted. Even the first, the ones made so perfect.

“God was so angered at this action, despite the fact that he let it happen, his confidence in the humans unparalleled, that for the first time God's wrath was known to his creations. As Eve went on to corrupt her mate the two of them were forced from their home and from then on, life for humans has been nothing but a constant struggle to redeem themselves, though none of them really know how. On the other hand, those angels that were on middle ground swiftly came to Lucifer's way of thinking and the war began. For a long time God's eyes were turned from earth, preoccupied with the infighting between his first creations. Angel on angel, brother on brother, daughter on father, it was pandemonium. Many angels died until at last God created Hell and cast out all angels who defied him. Even the ones who had not yet shown their disloyalty. All who were corrupted were cast out.” Dani nods, smiling softly at this mildly familiar part.

~*~*~*~*~

Fenrir comes to kneel next to his bed, taking the mirror in hand. 'So then why? How is it we all not know this. Michel and Gabriel still live. They know, so why?' His eyes slide over the young demon, and for an instant he feels a flicker of something. The flicker, he can't identifying, but he knows it has something to do with the expression on the youth's face. Almost as if, he doesn't want to be telling this tale.

~*~*~*~*~

Indeed, Kuro knows this will rock Aoba to his core, but he finishes the story, unable to bring himself to stop so close to the conclusion. “The rest of what happened in heaven we know through the Ocularus, the book of knowledge which my father carved out of the tree of knowledge by hand. It can never lie, and it knows everything as it happens, no matter where it happens. It can even predict the future to a degree. Anyways. After the angels were cast out God swore the remaining to secrecy. The true danger of the draw of knowledge finally sinking in, and then and there he made the decision that knowledge is something to be controlled. Of course, he was not going to stop the fallen from having it, already being corrupted, there was no point, but when it came to the rest he cared for, they were to be kept in the dark when he knew that knowing would do more damage than good.”

Dani drops his two cents in at this point. “So, in other words, he doesn't trust you guys enough to know the truth. He thinks if you guys know too much, you'll revolt again.” He shrugs. “I don't think it'll happen again. I mean, you all hate us so much and fear Him so much that, yeah, no chance.” Once his bowl is clean he hops up to get another. The dehydrated meat, while not up to his standard, definitely a new experience he does not regret having.

Kuro rolls his eyes at his brother, but being unable to deny his brother's assessment, to each their own after all, he looks back to Aoba and wonders what his response to this revelation will be. “Dani's right about the angels. Every one of them besides Papa, well, the ones that are alive still, are angels no longer.”
