Yes, it looks good. Though there is one thing. I am not sure if I inferred correctly, but I will say it anyway because I think it needs to be layed out in black and white. The general population by and large is unaware of Talents and magic. So the news media really wouldn't tell you if someone who died was a magi or not, they wouldn't know. Unless it was from some vaticsn only news station or something like that.

@Prodigal Son Gotcha gotcha! Didn't see that difference between the Church and the Arcanocracy, I'll have to do a little editing. But I figured since the group is going about trying to protect the paragons, Deston would just hitch along since that seemed as good a way as finding them as any other. But I can do some editing if you'd prefer on that matter as well.

Heheh it's no problem. I was a little confused there at first but I figured something like that happened.

It would be simpler if your character was a willing participant in the group. And with the story map I have layed out it currently does not account for a group member to be a double-agent. Having pc enemies is much more difficult to deal with than just having npc GM enemies.

Well, Chaotic Neutrals usually would hold no loyalty and usually are the root cause of party issues unless you get a Lawful Stupid character, which is Lawful Good played wrong or as an extremist to the point they are almost Lawful Evil. So, his character seems True Neutral in looking out for himself over just spreading chaos and being downright insane like most end up being as pyromaniacs.

Yeah, which is why I said somewhere between the two. He was certainly more chaotic before prison than he is now that he has sworn loyalty to Felix's cause.

Abilities

Deston has dedicated his life to changing the world around him. He furthers his goal by literally changing the way people see things, by altering the world around him. At first he would simply conjure images and visions that weren't there, but by an early age he had already mastered making exact duplicates of people and decided to move onto loftier goals. He began focusing an channeling his mana into changing the chemical and atomic structures of materials around him. While he can masterfully change an apple into an orange without blinking an eye, he is still working on perfecting his craft to a greater scale such as turning a wooden mansion into brick and stone, or forming an item out of the air, without it leaving him exhausted and burnt out.

Backstory

Deston has never wavered in his service to the Church of the First Company and has never doubted their teachings. Once his skills as an illusionist were known they helped him focus and hone his natural born talent. At a young age he was being given tasks by his Grand-Magi such as sitting in on meetings without being seen, or sneaking into places otherwise forbidden to his fellow novices. The Church soon displaced him from his home in Ireland, constantly having him travel from place to place going to meeting after meeting, breaking into offices, and warehouses alike. By his teenage years he had become a master at blending into the crowd, becoming anyone at any time. A Japanese manager here, a German scholar there. He was recently promoted to Magi after completing his first task of killing a man for the Church. Deston didn't know who the man was, though he suspected he was a dangerous apostate the Church had deemed needed to be put down for the betterment of humanity. But he never actually asked. He never asked questions, and he found he wasn't the slight bit worried about who the man was. It was enough for him that his faith demanded his life be ended.

Personality

Deston's personality is whatever the moment requires. One moment he is pretending to be outgoing, hearty salesman, the next a secretive and nervous recluse. He typically prefers to stay in the shadows and scope a situation out before deciding on how to act. When engaging with peers he will often display a mask of a happy go lucky youth as he observed his natural quite, caustic, cynical, and reserved demeanor would make people distant and in the long run harder to manipulate for assistance. That being said, Deston is easily flustered with true deep emotions often not knowing to do when they appear as he is used to expressing only the shallow.

Deston has no true friends as he is constantly moving about, his only constant contact is the Grand-Magi he has been serving his whole life. His constant snooping and finding secrets others would prefer hidden has caused him to be rather cynical of all things in this world except the Church. When letting down his mask he can become vicious with his tongue as he begins to let people know what he thinks of them or a situation, not afraid to use the secrets he's stolen from another to hurt them, or pick apart their personality. His ego has been building since he was first removed from his fellow novices, giving him a sense that he cannot fail and a belief that he has no living equal in his craft. While he has no doubt there are others who know more, he believes in just a few short years he shall pass them and will take his place as an Arch-Magi in the Church.

I like your character, you're in. Just a few things. Promise me you'll have your character join Felix when he approaches you. It seems like your character has an unwavering loyalty to the Arcanocracy. The other thing is that the Church of the First order is a Jesuit order that is supposed to be secret from the rest of the Catholic Arcanocracy, a seperate entity from the Arcanocracy. The Arcanocracy is what gives ranks, the COTFO is a small group that operates within the shadows. I'm not really sure I made that clear which is why I pointed it out.

The last thing, you keep your mitts off of Felix's wooden mansion.

Going with a bit more positive and graceful personality after reading the posts on our friend Nemo~ Some contrast to his style while knowing full well not to make someone who cant respect Nemo and simply ruin any team cohesion. As a DM myself it saddens me when people go ahead and make characters that won't ever get along with the rest of the party after all and derail the campaign.

On the same note, Cottonmouth's character is more alligned as neutral than he is evil. His character does the work he is hired to do and fights back without mercy to those who attack him. Now that Felix has enlisted his help he falls somewhere along the spectrum between true neutral and chaotic neutral. His character should be fairly easy to get along with if you aren't lawful good or chaotic evil.

@ShiningSector basically if you choose an aspect I want to see your character most proficient in the spells of that aspect. An example would be, I don't want your character to have chosen the cleric aspect only to be mainly utilizing large ruin aspect spells.

Question on Scholars of the Societas Academia. Aside from their usual tasks of researching the arcane (and its wide realm of knowledge) and creating new spells, are they limited to the spells they produce or discover, or can they utilize spells and skills from other aspects or factions?

@cottonmouth had about the right of it. Everyone will be able to use whatever magic they want their characters to use. For Academia the aspects were simply to divide thw faction up into subfactions and to make it more stream lined to make a character. I didn't really explain it thoroughly, but every character has an aura that is a different color based upon what magic they accel at. Certain matic just makes more sense to certain people. That being said, it is important to note that every Academia student has at least a foundational knowledge of all types of magic before they go on to aspect training. The scholar aspect was meant mostly as a research roll for untalents. Though I suppose if a talent were to become a scholar it would open up a world of ancient and archaic spells lost to the ages. My idea of a scholar would be someone who utilizes ancient tomes as mediums to cast spells in battle. But my idea on that doesn't have to be a reality if you have a better idea.

Felix was way ahead of Nemo; creating a crucifix glyph in the air, Felix opened up a spacial rift. Felix always liked the visual effect of a spacial rift opening. Spacial rifts looked a lot like a hot highway in the distance on a sunny day. An up close mirage effect, trapped in space and time. Like a vertical rippling pool of pure water with heatwaves exuding from it. Of course the "heatwaves" of the rift were actually spacial distortions. But the comparison was stunningly similar.

After taking about two seconds to marvel at the visual aesthetics of the rift he had seen thousands of times before, he walked through it.

On the other side was the familiar living room of his large cabin in the redwoods. Felix had created this cabin four years ago after Raiya left the Arcanocracy. He wasn't truly suspicious of the church, but he began to have his doubts at that moment. As a measure to secure his future should he have to leave the Vatican and Catholicism, he used his magic to create this large mansion style cabin out of one redwood tree. Of course, he made sure to make the cabin far enough away from Societas Academia, though that was easy seeing as he had a whole other 176 square miles to choose from. After using his magic to fashion the cabin itself, he also dipped a bit into his large savings account to furnish the house. Then, after everything was said and done, he also put up protective wards and barriers concealing the hope and preserving it.

We have plenty of rooms and amenities, so please choose a room, and make yourself at home. There is a pool in the basement down stares alongside the rec-room with arcade games and pool tables. Of course if none of that piques your fancy, there is also a large library with a wide array of books and tomes. There is also a large kitchen with any cooking implement you need; all the food that I bought four years ago should still be perfectly edible because of the preservation wards I placed on the house. There is also a piano room with various other instruments, if you care. All the rooms have their own bathrooms. Don't worry about using too much water, all of it is spacially transported from the Cedar Mountain aquifers. If there is anything else you have any questions about, let me know." Felix had a large smile on his face, as if this was the moment he had been waiting four years for.
