Location: Crossed Swords Tavern & Inn
Interacting With: Persephone, Cremwise

Tucked slightly back into the booth he sat in, Lucan allowed his eyes to drift back over to Kyra as the merchant motioned in her direction, one of those who had just entered the bar. He saw her little trick shooting an arrow off the gnome's head, and was reasonably impressed. He himself had done the trick a few times, of course, it was always rigged when he had done so - part of one of many cons in his usual act. But he could tell she had not rigged it in her favour, rather, she was just a remarkable shot, it was no surprise to Lucan that the merchant looking for protection had settled his gaze on her.

Turning his head back toward the merchant, he crossed his arms over his chest, listening with only mild interest to what the man had to say. It was as he had expected, the man was looking for protection while he moved his wares, why he was moving them through orc territory was odd, but he assumed it was to save time, rather than anything else. Really, the fact the work would go into orc territory was the only part of what Cremwise had to say that interested Lucan to any degree. His tail was tenacious, but even if he had the gall to follow Lucan into orc lands, he would be slowed down enough that Lucan might have had a chance to lose his tail, maybe head somewhere like Neverwinter where he might be able to hide for at least a few years before he was found again.

There was also the fact that Lucan was indeed running out of coin, that had not entirely been a lie. He had enough for a room and some more supplies, but fairly soon he was going to run out, and robbing another merchant on the road or whoever else he might've come across - while giving him some cash, would just give Yorke another lead from which to follow him. A little more coin, especially earned in a more honest sense, couldn't have hurt. He gave Persephone a gentle nod as she agreed to join the merchant on his trip, still considering it himself quietly.

After she finished speaking, he finally spoke up himself. "How much are you offering exactly? He questioned the merchant, for Lucan it had now boiled down to this, if he liked the number which was given to him, it was more than likely he would've offered his services along with Persephone, if not, then he would bid the two farewell, purchase a room and be off the next day, provided the rest of the night went as planned.

Lucan's interest and curiosity was no where near the degree of Persephone's. Whereas she clearly desired to know more of the merchant - who looked precisely like the kind of man Lucan would rob on the road - and his intentions, Lucan would've preferred to remain entirely unnoticed by the man. He did not speak out however, nor make any effort to stop her from garnering the attention of the man with the large hat, instead reaching up to grasp his scarf, pulling it slightly upward in a feeble and entirely pointless attempt to conceal himself, barely tucking it over his mouth as he watched the man.

It wasn't that Lucan was afraid of being recognized, rather he just wished to remain unassuming, he wasn't in Salarn looking for work, coin, adventure, or anything really. He just wanted to spend the night there, and move on the next day as he had originally planned. He wasn't going anywhere, at least not in particular, and he had no real itinerary he needed to stick to, but Lucan didn't like to be held up, his last encounter with Captain Yorke, the bounty hunter particularly intent on hunting him down, had only been a short time ago, and he figured if he remained much longer, the man would catch up to him again.

Then again, there was not that much harm to just listening to the man, what he had to say might've been interesting enough, perhaps even, should the right mood strike Lucan, along with the appropriate sum of gold and no need to remain in one place, he would even consider taking up whatever work the merchant was looking to offer to the most able-bodied present. As the fat man with the large hat made his way over to their booth, Lucan glanced over to the door, watching as the new, large group of adventurers came in. Almost all of them looked like the sort of do-gooder heroes that he figured this merchant was dying to find, especially the cleric, at least he assumed it was a cleric, you could usually point them out from the mace and the 'holier-than-thou' way they held themselves.

The woman who wandered in along and took a seat at the bar, her face covered in war-paint looked more Lucan's style, she had the kind of rough and tumble weight about her that one only got from a tough, on-the-road warriors lifestyle, he appreciated it. It reminded him a great deal of the other sorts of bandits he'd fight alongside, he always got along with them well, and they were always especially fun to drink with. Tilting his head back away from the other patrons, he set his gaze on the merchant as he approached.

Turning toward the Chi Blocker as he heard his offer, Lee gave him a look, letting Terra say her piece before she moved off. Turning his gaze back toward the man, he shook his head. "Yeah, think i'll pass" He added. Perhaps he shouldn't have been so receptive of the Chi Blocker, but he simply did not trust the man, since the disappearance of his sister, he had not met one of his kind who hadn't meant him harm in some way or another, he had simply become conditioned to avoid and distrust those with his skillset. Moving off, he sighed, looking down to the Fire Ferret who had been napping around his neck. "Why don't we find some food, huh Lan?" The promise of food was more than enough to rouse the small creature from his nap, Lan's small head popping up was he sniffed the air and leaned in a direction. The good thing about a Fire Ferret was that you always knew the way toward food.

After a little wandering about, Lee found a small table set up with some small snacks and bits to eat toward the stern. Picking up a handful of jerky bits, he fed a couple to Lan and began making his way through the rest, he hadn't had anything to eat that day so he was quite hungry. Although, he would have preferred not to have a mouthful of jerky when Terra came out to find him. Giving her somewhat of an embarrassed look, he quickly chewed up and swallowed what was in his mouth as she spoke to him. "Well, the Fire Lord has declared open war on the Chi Blockers and mobilized the army, not that easy considering there's no clear place these guys call home. Really, it's just making our military camps a target, and we're losing men..." He paused for a moment or two, playing it off as taking another bite to eat. He hadn't told Terra about his sister, he hadn't told anyone really.

"There've been a few raids on Fire Nation lands, mostly coastal cities and towns, but they have been getting bolder, attacking better protected areas further inland." Lee placed his hands on his hips with a sigh, shrugging as Lan jumped off his shoulders onto Terra's, the small critter had always taken a liking to her. "On the plus side, there's a new acting troupe that started up on Ember Island. I mean, they aren't great, but it's something." He chuckled, he was short on good news at the time, so he hoped at least the small bit would help make things seem not quite so grim. Sighing, he picked up another piece of jerky and held it out toward Lan, the Fire Ferret making a happy noise as he took the piece and began to eat.
This looks interesting, I am certainly intrigued.

Edit: May chuck together a CS soonish.

Lucan appreciated that Persephone did not decide to press him further. He assumed she was smart enough to realise he had avoided her questions, but whether or not she actually trusted him, he couldn't tell. Taking another sip of his drink, he let out a sigh of relaxation. He had not avoided Persephone's questions out of ill will, in fact, he held no ill will to anyone in that town, Lucan had particularly recently been trying to avoid breaking the law to any degree, it wasn't his fault when he came across a particularly gullible group of gamblers, and ended up walking off with their hard-earned money. And as for being a bandit, he hadn't used force to steal from anyone for at least two weeks.

Tapping his fingers against his mug once more, he shifted his gaze out to the bar, spotting the fatter man with the large brim hat wander through the tavern, giving a class to any attentive enough to notice in 'how not to eavesdrop'. Sipping at his ale, he tilting his head back toward Persephone as he spoke, following her finger back to the very man he had just been watching. "He's an odd one, obviously looking to hear something." He had now properly caught Lucan's attention. He didn't appear to be a spy, or a criminal, and if he was either he was certainly a very bad one. He was larger than the average adventurer, so Lucan doubted he left the town much, at least not on long trips... The purple trim of his clothing made Lucan think he had at least some degree of wealth, as did the seemingly reasonably sized pouch on his belt.

"He might be looking for someone, actually." Lucan had established that this man had the look of an entrepreneur, a businessman. There was always money to be made in a time of war, and right on the edge of a conflict one could usually find people to help get that money, either because they desired some coin of their own, which would usually be his case, or because they had some childish fantasy of being a 'hero'. "Looking for workers, mercenaries, something like that, if you ask me - then again, I might be completely wrong." He chuckled with a shrug, taking another long drink to finish off his ale, setting down the mug and pushing it aside slightly.

Ba Sing Se. Lee had visited the great city of the Earth Kingdom before, and there were more than just a few spots in particular he enjoyed. Particularly, the tea shop a few blocks down from Terra's home. He'd stopped there on the way to hers, and had been enjoying a particular cup for a long while, heating it whenever it cooled down with a short burst of fire below the cup. Looking up to the sky, he smiled, watching the sun for a few moments. It looked a little higher than it should've been... Oh, crap, he was going to be late. Quickly, he downed what was left of his tea, perhaps not the best idea considering he'd just heated it back up.

Coughing profusely and panting as he dealt with the sudden burst of steaming liquid running down his throat, he grabbed at his neck and fanned his mouth as he hurried down the streets. "Bad move, bad move." He scolded himself, managing to arrive outside Terra's only shortly after the others arrived, seeing her father at the door, turning back to go get his daughter. Lining up with the others, he looked over them momentarily. The water bender, hm, she didn't look like someone from the water tribes, at least, not as he thought. The air bender looked like most of them did, meditative and quiet. The earth bender he set his eyes on for a bit, he didn't know him, despite having been in the kingdom for some time, but he looked tough enough, maybe a source for a good sparring match. The weapons master looked mysterious enough to almost irritate the Firebender, but he didn't really bother to linger on him. Instead, his gaze went to the Chi Blocker. Ling Feng was possibly the only man in the group Lee had any issue with, his sister's disappearance was reason enough to dislike his kind, but if he was indeed sworn to fighting the others, and helping the Avatar, he'd look past it at least for now.

As Terra came out, he grinned. It had been some time since he'd seen the girl, they'd become friends when she first visited the Fire Nation, and while they hadn't seen eachother a great deal since then, they had sent messages back and forth. As she introduced herself to the others, he grinned, watching as she tried to remain formal and offer him a handshake. Reaching up, he gave her a gentle, semi-affectionate pat on the head. "Good to see you again, Terra." He said with a smile, it was good to see her again, and he looked forward to the journey. Everything was going well as they boarded the ship, he began to plan out what he was going to do during his time, the catch-up he'd do with Terra and discussions he'd have with the others... And then Terra fell face-first.

Holding in his laughter barely, and snickering as he approached her, Lee gently placed his hands on the girl's shoulders to pick her up. "Let's hope you've got better balance when you're fighting Chi-blockers, huh?" He asked with a grin, looking down at the younger girl as he placed his hands on his hips.

Lucan's eyes followed Persephone as she moved to sit across from him, tapping his fingers idly against the mug rested in his left hand. He sat silent for a bit, listening as she spoke. "Well, living another day is as good a reason as any for celebration, I suppose." He raised his mug along with her, taking a drink in a sort of toast. Letting out a satisfied sigh as he wouldn't bother to savour this drink quite as long, he set it down gently.

Listening to her go on once more, he nodded every now and then to assure her he was listening, the same smile remaining on his face as he watched her quietly. As she addressed the ale, he took another drink, nodding his head as he looked over the drink in his hand momentarily. "You're not wrong, it's decent stuff - unfortunately I haven't managed to secure a bed yet myself." He shrugged his shoulders, leaning back in his seat. "Running low on coin, i'm afraid." In reality, he was doing just fine on coin, at least, he certainly had enough on his person to secure a room for the night.

Raising an eyebrow at her query, he figured it was inevitable. Resting his forearms on the table, he shrugged simply and allowed the right side of his lips to curl up into more of a smirk. "Nothing thrilling i'm afraid, or quite as noble as healing wounded soldiers." Her began simply, reaching up with his free hand to scratch at some of the stubble on his face, it'd been a few days since he'd been able to shave, and while it didn't look terrible, it was clear enough the man hadn't had a comfortable night for a while. "Just happened to be the next spot on the road, i'd have taken the longer way around, but I can handle myself well enough not to worry about the war zone." He figured it was best to avoid the exact reason for his presence in Salarn, but he hadn't exactly, or at least completely lied.

Taking the mug of ale brought to him by the barmaid with a friendly smile and a generous tip, he brought the drink to his lips and downed some of the bitter liquid, he let the feeling of it linger for a moment, the hoppy flavour, the lingering, bitter aftertaste, even the aroma. He took it all in before he finally swallowed, letting out a satisfied sigh, enjoying his cheap ale like any royal would enjoy a cup of fine wine. Setting the mug back down on the table gently, he shifted his gaze back toward the tavern just in time to catch sight of the woman approaching his booth. The usual thought ran through his head, did she look like she wanted to kill him? No, she was smiling and not in the usual sort of way a bounty hunter did, besides, she didn't look like a lawman of any kind.

Priest? Lucan wondered, mind rushing to conclusions as he examined her garb. No, priests don't go to taverns except in poor jokes, or at least, they don't drink there. Staff on her back, bindings on her hands... Monk, must be, a friendly one too from the look of that militiaman... Monks weren't too stuck up, were they? Well, he'd find out, women were always a good way to get a free room for the night, and one approaching him was generally a good place to start. Finally she reached his table, it hadn't exactly been that long, Lucan just liked to imagine that his mind worked much faster than it actually did. "Night of celebration, hm? I mustn't have gotten the message." He chuckled, in a deliberately awkward fashion. "I suppose I just haven't found the right company yet." He added, to answer her initial query, smiling up at her in a charming fashion, listening as the woman introduced himself.

"No, I don't believe we have, I just arrived in town, i'm Lu-" He cut himself off, playing it off with a brief cough as his mind stopped him continuing. He doubted she had anything to do with the law, and he was far enough away from home to have not seen any wanted posters for a while, oh well, the risk would be taken. "Pardon me, ale went down wrong. I'm Lucan." He introduced himself properly, bringing up his hand to take hers, giving it a gentle shake. "To what do I owe the pleasure of the good company?" He queried out of genuine interest, it wasn't unheard of for women to approach him, but it was certainly rarer than he approaching them. Especially when they themselves held some modicum of attractiveness themselves.

He certainly wasn't concerned over her reasons for approaching him, at least, not any more, he'd already decided that she could not have been too major a threat, and he doubted even if she were that she would want to create a scene in the busy tavern. But still, he didn't let those thoughts show on his face, just maintaining his trademark, winning smile.
