Benji felt a wave of relief as attention was directed away from him as Tas excused herself and Connor showed up just minutes later. Although, he was always happy to see Connor. The conversation shifted from presents to the party. "I figured pretty much everyone we know was invited," he chimed in, "Although Eva still hasn't texted me back yet today, so I hope her and Feliks aren't dead in a ditch somewhere. I had a band meet last night so I couldn't go out with them. What about that new kid, Eddy? He got invited right? I figure it'd be a good chance for him to make some new friends since he just moved in."

As Connor announced he was getting food Benj called after him, "Hey, get me something too." Following him to the counter Benj glanced only briefly at the pastries. He put a hand on Connor's shoulder and smiled innocently. "So, you'll spot me right?" Then, stealing a look back at the table he said in a hushed tone: "So, um, I sorta forgot about Nattie's birthday today and I didn't get her anything, but everyone else is getting her really cool stuff and I don't know what I'm gonna do."

He made a face, and when the barista asked what they wanted he waited for Connor to say, then added, "And a large caramel macchiato, please." His smile faded even while the barista handed them their things. "I'm like, really freaking out here. I've only got a few hours to figure something out that's not completely lame. You must have some good ideas, you always know what girls like." He shot his friend a desperate please, you gotta help me out look, cradling his macchiato as if it held his last ounce of hope.

At that moment his phone buzzed. He checked. It was Eva, oh thank god. Although after reading her text, he felt much less reassured than he had hoped.
