Daiki's hand went to his blade instinctively as a faunus girl walked up to him and commended him on his harmonica playing. "Thanks... I guess." He waved off the praise nonchalantly. She might have taken offense at his reaction though, so he thought he'd clarify things before they got out of hand.
"My home gets raided by hungry faunus and the Black Claw a lot. I hope you understand if I'm a little wary of faunus." He explained. "But, I won't mind you walking with me. I don't know anyone here and I'm only here because of ... special circumstances."
He walked to Beacon with the faunus girl, eying her closely as if studying her and trying to get a read on her. She was friendly enough and those claws of her seemed like a decent enough weapon. "So... what does your weapon do? I haven't seen many weapons that have firearms built in them." He stroked his blade carefully as if to comfort its self esteem.

Rachel smiled at Sayaka. "Sure... As long as he doesn't use that super speed for anything... unsavoury." She replied with a smile and a conspiratory glance at the speedster. "I've never tried hitting a moving target at that speed with a throwing knife." She joked as she pulled her sleeve back a little to show the girl beside her she had something up her sleeve, quite literally.

If Beacon looked impressive from the air, it seemed a lot grander on the ground where Daiki was standing. All that space for a bunch of students and professors? He might have thought of the forest as his home, but the cabin he lived in with his family was a speck of dust beside the school.
They had fifteen minutes to get to the welcome ceremony, and Daiki did not hesitate. Olliver had left before the he had been able to offer his own name, so he'd look for an opportunity to do so later. He wondered what their first test would be - there was an initiation for all new students, he believed. He was curious about his teammates and how these kids with their exaggerated weaponry fought. It was a whole new world for Daiki and it seemed incredibly overwhelming.
He kept his distance from the faunus students, wary of them since he had gotten his fair share of bruises fending them off from his family's meals. His father had always told him to be compassionate and that one should always look at a neighbour's bowl only to ensure they had as much as he did, not the other way around. Still it was difficult to see the faunus as anything more than thieves when they had scared his young siblings growing up every time they came raiding for food or supplies.
At least one or two of them had been decent. They paid or exchanged favours for hospitality. Often they were simply exhausted from fighting off Grimm and offered to help the Hidayashi family around the place as they recovered. He supposed the faunus here had enough of their own to be above thievery, and reminded himself to keep an open mind.
He followed the crowd of students to the main hall where the ceremony was held. He hung at the back of the crowd, in a quiet corner where he could observe the hall while keeping himself discreetly out of almost everyone's view. "Welcome to Beacon." He said to himself. He patted his katana reassuringly. "It's just you and me now, darling."
