Thanks Rhymer. Are you still planning on making a character?

Yes

Interested. But quick question: what is the storyline, like the main point of this RP?

When that gets answered :)

Busy tonight, will get a psot up tomorrow. Also, going to send a small landing party of technicians and field researchers, if that is ok?

Maybe the Ljus and the Demeter could work together, both being research vessels?
Bump cause this is cool.
The multi-leveled command bridge of the Demeter was in a flurry of activity. Captain William Bellamy stared at the forward viewing screen from his command chair, a look of disbelief on his face. His first officer stood at his side one hand covering her mouth.

Inhabited.

It was the only word his mind seemed to remember at the moment. The images spat back from the Daughter of Gaias probe played over and over on the screen. A small village amidst lush green forests. A community of bipeds...

"Unbelievable.." stammered Rebecca. "I'll inform the colonists sir."

Captain Bellamy nodded wordlessly. A blip on the command console read URGENT.

"Captain, a message from the Daughter of Gaia on all channels. The authorization is Admiral Perin's but-"

"..is Captain Baran speaking.."

"-that's not Perin," finished Bellamy. "Who is that man Rebecca?" The bridge had grown silent.

..assumed command of the Daughter of Gaia and the fleet. It is my regret to inform you that the Admiral and several of my fellow officers were involved in a treasonous attempt to subvert our colonization of Delta Pavonis...

"This doesn't make any sense," blurted Rebecca. The bridge flew into confusion, several officers speaking at once over Baran's transmission. Suddenly a swell in volume of feedback, some static and a new voice:

..is a coup. This is the beginnings of Genocide..."

"Turn that off!" shouted Captain Bellamy. "Rebecca put security on full alert, and send the following message to Daughter of Gaia:

"This is Captain William Bellamy of the independent ship Demeter. My loyalty is to my ship and crew Baran. If you men are landing on that planet I urge you as a scientist to do so peaceably, without alerting the inhabitants to our presence if at all possible. There is no more need for bloodshed. We have come too far for too long for it all to end in violence."

The captain looked around his bridge. Junior officers stood wide-eyed at stations. The viewing screen flashed.

"The Savior is moving off sir. Not sure what they are intending..." said Rebecca.

"The Saratoga?" asked Bellamy. He knew the fleets strongest ship would be a deciding factor in the coming minutes.

"No change in position sir. I'm reading inter-ship transmissions though."

"Helm take us to the perimeter of the fleet. I don't want us to get hit if there is a fight."
I'm interested and would probably join. Some character ideas:

  • An up and coming hologram artist from Greater Downtown who is a double agent for the BPF or some other organization.

  • A gunsmith/weapons smuggler for upper class society with a debt to settle/some kind of resistance fighter

  • A government scientist who worked on the first vaccination, has concerns over the new patch

  • A human trafficker who sneaks undesirables into Byzantium from Earth, based in the Outward Districts

Just what I could think of from the info given. This RP looks like fun.

Has it been decided if this is staying NRP or going FRP yet?

I'm leaning towards a regular RP. If everyone wants a NRP then it might be a while before I get everything figured out.
Ship Name:Demeter
Description: The Demeter was designed and constructed by the Hero-United Corporation in 2268 in conjunction with the United States Federal Government Department of Emerging Agriculture. The primary mission of the Demeter is to firmly establish agriculture, and supply food for the colony indefinitly. Additional mission goals are to locate, catalogue and domesticate any native wildlife fit for consumption or work labor and report findings back to Earth.

Population:
403 Ships Officers including Officers (Captain, Commander and other ships systems specialists)
250 Security Specialists
1289 Engineers specializing in Robotics and AI units.
3823 Permanent Colonists, many born and raised while under way.
4252 Agricultural Scientists, Professors,Technicians and students.(Agronomists,Chemists,Aquaculturalists,Botanists,Microbiologists etc.) Many personnel carry multiple degrees, or have completed programs while in transit.

Description: The Demeter is designed to land on a planet and break apart compartmentally for habitation, storage and production of food. Every section of the ship is multi-purposed for permanent colonization. The ships modules provide habitation, storage, scientific, maintenance, control and command functions. Nearly 80% of the modules are dedicated to the fleet of Android laborers that will provide the backbone of the agrarian settlement.

In addition the ship holds 3 short range scout vessels, Anemoi designed to carry out any preliminary surveying of candidate planets. Due to the nature of the Demeter, surveying a planets habitability is of utmost importance as the ship cannot leave the surface once landed.

The Anemoi are 6 person vessels outfitted with heavy atmospheric shielding and the most sophisticated scanning technology available (some of it developed in transit to Delta Pavonis system). Some short range defensive weapons are also on board, mainly for dettering any lesser species from attacking the ship (i.e. aggressive animals)

In addition the Demeter holds over 275 unmanned probes,Muse 1-275 used for long range reconnaissance. Once planet side, these probes will provide a steady stream of information in a web of surveillance. Atmospheric weather, temperature, even local system anomalies will be monitored through use of geo-synchronous and other variable orbiting sattelites.

Robotics Division:
1230 Task and Labor Units (TaLu) originally designed by the Hero-United corporation in 2263 and upgraded/retro-fitted on board the Demeter.
Unit Specifications:

Captain Name:Dr. William Bellamy CO
Description: Just 29 Years old upon departure, Captain William Bellamy is man with warm features, a genuine smile and an eagerness to engage anyone anywhere. His personality was deemed imperturbable and thus a prime candidate for captaincy. He is adored by his staff and crew.

Bellamy is a graduate from MIT cum laude and former fellow at Harvard.Ranked in the top 10 North American Minds by MENSA in 2265, Bellamy was handpicked by the board of directors of the Hero-United Corp. to captain the Demeter. His brother, Robert Bellamy chairs the board.

Other Notable Individuals:
First Officer: Rebecca Lancaster, London,UK
officer in charge of ships systems while under way and commander of the security forces
Chief Medical Officer: Connor Mullaney Annapolis,MD
chairman of the board of Scientific Research and Chief TaLu programmer
Special Colonist Representative, Governor Mark Hurst, vice-Governor Michelle Lee
Board of Scientific Research , various members
This is still a work in progress SKYLAR so don't expect anything to soon. You need to describe any character races that inhabit your country.

Arquebi, we meet again. In fantasy, things always get a bit woozy when guns get mentioned. They had to add DLC just to put crossbows in Skyrim. In Assassin's Creed, I just shot every guard instead of swordfighting like a good Assassin. In Shamer's Daughter (a book set in the Middle Ages) everyone used swords and crossbows. Hell, even in The Saga of Darren Shan, which is set in the modern day, they had to take an oath never to use ranged weapons.I think it should be gunpowder, not magic, we should worry about becoming OP. And, as GM rightly said, the best way to do that is to make certain armour resistant to it. Same with magic, actually. Maybe light armour resists magic and heavy armour resists bullets.I also think certain artifacts should be more powerful than people. For example, an amulet that makes the body immune to fire should not be bested by a spell cast by a fire mage, because you could always just stab the amulet wearer.

I agree with you Feigling. Gunpowder is treated as exotic weaponry in D&D and takes a penalty to a roll. Gunpowder exists in this world but it's like any specialized weapon (Me, personally I don't know how to use a Drone) only a few people are really qualified to use it. It's up to the player to keep it as believable as possible for the RP. And besides, what fun is a character that can just shoot everything that's thrown at it?

In case it was missed, I asked a question on page 2:

I totally missed that ASTA, sorry :( . What exactly is it you are describing? We have a nomadic nation of bloodthirsty Orcs/Goblins/Trolls so that type of thing wouldn't be a problem.

I was wondering if I could use barrel bombs which are thich wooden barrels jampacked with gun. When they explode, it would send sharpnel in every which way. To be used in desperate defenses or sieges. I think it would be overpowered though. What do you guys think?

A character certainly wouldn't walk around with a barrel bomb, but a city might have a few in storage.
