Not to burden you with anything else, but what have the Far Eastern Powers been upto? As in, China, the Koreas and Japan. Are they significant in any way? Or did America's collapse crash their economies? Also, what of India and the Middle East? Are they big players?
Nothing set in stone yet. India has a space fleet but it's more scientific than weaponized. I would like to see Japan as a major player too-technology, mechanized armor, developing and building the first major space battleship. Not sure what to do with China. I think it will depend largely on what nationality players want to be and how they want to be represented. I'm open to suggestions too.

I am thinking of playing a special forces commander sent by the AWE to investigate the visitor. Could I play a fleet admiral? Being the space race, I assume battlecruisers and armed spacecraft exist. I would do anything where I get to wear an admiral hat.
Special forces sure. Admiral? No. Weaponized space craft is a major part of this RP. But for now play will be focused on the men and women in the field not the leadership.
Hmm, I'm not sure the "ancient robots" could work. Technology of that scale hasn't been around for thousands of years, more like some hundreds of years.

So man and other species evolved co-dominantly on an alternate earth-like planet(s)? Interested if only for the fact that the RP is wide open for creative input. Thinking of some sentient artificial life form (not based on humans) that destroyed the creator race completely in ancient times and mythologized their self-awareness, denying the fact that they are self-replicating.
Interesting setting, which could be fun. Just watch out for any of the guild's self proclaimed professors on everything, they have a tendency to attack these kinds of RPs for their own deluded ends.
So we're to assume that Ukraine has returned to the Russian Federation. How about Poland and the other Warsaw Pact countries? Are they also with Russia?

Yea, basically NATO failed and was dissolved. The EU is threatened as well as Iran, Turkey and most of the middle east, but that is not to say Russia is the bad guy. The Atmospheric Weapons Enforcement puts together a team to investigate the visitor because it poses a threat to all of earth. The AWE pulls men and women from armed forces all over the world to join its ranks. The AWE prevents anyone from using nukes with its grid of orbital platforms. Its like the UN but with actual power and autonomy. Its leadership is sort-of secretive.
I have to apologize, I don't think I pitched this idea very well-there are a few things to work out-i.e. canon technology and recent history. Would love to have input on it. I think this is a world that is filled with opportunity. Sort of an alternate near future where technology is amazing and weird shit inhabits the galaxy. Thanks for taking a look!

Yes and probably not. Like I said I picture the players being some sort of Special Forces from all over the globe-the Atmospheric Weapons Enforcement recruits from armies around the world. So some players could be russian and EU, EUSA or WUSA. Would make for good tension in the rp.
Yep. Plasma/energy rifles. Lasers as precision weapons. Advanced armor and APCs on the ground. Global network security, anti-grav machines (an industry in its infancy)drones etc.Space travel is easy-the commercial space flight boom happened some ten years before the current year.Space weaponry is a developing field as well-but costly only the superpowers (EU & Russia) can afford to deploy space fleets; these are knocked out quickly after the initial contact with the Visitor. Orbital platforms are common deploying laser weaponry, surveillance hubs, ammo dumps, etc. Other tech too-trying to think of an analogy to give. If you have an idea for a technology just bring it up.
I should mention that the USA is not the superpower it was. Two costly wars in the middle east eventually split the party bases and the western half of the union seceded without bloodshed. California is the new capital. The eastern USA (EUSA) still has armed forces over seas (germany,japan,italy etc) but at greatly diminished numbers and is closely allied to the EU. The western USA (WUSA) has resumed Pre-WW1 isolationist policy. NATO has been disbanded. The independent nations that were formerly in the USSR have been returned to the Russian Republic. Extremists and terrorists with any number of ideologies,ethnicity and agendas abound in Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia, South America and the Eastern United States.
This roleplay is a small scale casual game centered around a special forces team and its mission. The setting is Earth, in an alternate near-future where the USA has been divided and is no longer a superpower. Russia and the EU wage war across Europe and in space. In the midst of chaos, an unidentified object appears suddenly in Earths orbit. It makes no demands, gives no message or reason, but it quickly destroys most of Earths fledgling space fleet.
By the year 2020, the major powers had sizeable assets in space exploration, colonization and industry. In 2019 Russia put the first semi-permanent base on the moon-heavily armed and fortified-The EU responded by petitioning the Atmospheric Weapons Enforcement agency to deploy Orbital Platforms to safeguard against ICBM attacks by Russia and it's allies. The new space race was well under way.
The Russian Republic
The Russian Republic declared a general war on the EU as the first anti-ICBM weapons platforms were lifted into orbit by the Atmospheric Weapons Enforcement agency. Already at war with Turkey and Iran, the Russian military astounded analysts with its quick, decisive victories in Eastern Europe, reclaiming territory formerly under old Soviet rule. The AWE ensured that the war was contained to Europe and the no nukes or major civilian populations were engaged. New rules of War had been established with the rapid advances in laser weaponry, advanced shielding and the development of Space Weaponry.
Long-time President Mikhail Denikin consolidated power over two decades in the leadership. An ex-military man, Denikin lived through the cold war of the 60's and 70's in the field. An outspoken supporter of Russian European-Asian dominance, Denikin holds command of the largest military force on earth. Russian corporations churn out military surplus for the Russian war machine. Muscovy AeroSpace is a multi-national corporation with industrial complexes and airfields in 39 countries across Asia and South America.
The European Union
Following the collapse of the global economy in 2008, the EU reorganized economically and politically. With the United Kingdom and Germany at its head, the EU made an astounding financial rebound and quickly moved into the Aerospace industry in an attempt to grab marketshare before Russia could dominate the field. With the second largest space fleet in the world, the EU is at war with Russia.
The Western United States
The Western United States (WUSA) seceded from the union following the collapse of the American offensive in Iraq-2005. Debt and two tiresome and costly wars took a toll on the American people. When rising sea levels and increasing storm activity flooded the southern middle states, the parties finally split.
A new party, based in San Diego comprised of both center leftists and conservatives drew the new American border just east of Texas. Texas would claim sovereignty 180 days later as it invaded Mexico...but that is another story.
President Mark Carver initiated sound economic policies and foreign trade agreements. The WUSA was invited to the Atmospheric Weapons Enforcement summit in 2009 and joined in 2011, signing the charter along with 178 other countries. The WUSA provides personel,intelligence and technology to the AWE.
The Eastern United States
After the failed military campaign in the middle east, and the devestating news of the WUSA leaving the Union, the president and vice-president resigned together. The House Speaker resumed office until 2008 when President Michael Turner was elected for an unprecedented life-term. Multiple media sources within (and outside) of the EUSA said the election was a sham and that Turner bought his office. A conservative from South Carolina, Turner recalled all major military forces in Europe and Asia just as Russian tanks crossed the Ukranian border and seized Crimea. The EU felt abandoned and NATO collapsed. To fill the void, the Atmospheric Weapons Enforcement agency was created. Many critics claimed the EUSA had been bought by Russian money.
