Current Huh, has it really been three years since my last post? I guess I’m back at least to lurk around.

Dear life, I was told to get one but you are killing me. Can I get a refund on the extra hours at work and the lack of sleep for a bit of freetime. Yours dearly, The Coffeeholic

Sleep? You mean there is a such thing called a regular sleep schedule?

Bio

RP Status: Full. I'd be open to chatting but I'm currently not accepting any new RPs.

After a three year hiatus I’m back and with a new username.

  • I joined the Guild in the summer of 2011
  • I enjoy gardening, hiking, cooking and listening to podcasts (if you have any podcast suggestions send them my way)
  • I have a huge interest in roleplays where I can really dive into the psychological side of my characters but not a fan of romance based roleplays

If you want to know more about me or want to chat, feel free to PM me. I'm always up to meeting new people.

Hello and welcome to RPG!

Yes, playing one of the baddies can be quite fun and I enjoy it too! As Darkmatter said, checking out the guide might be a good place to start. I hope you enjoy your stay here!
Oh hey User! I remember that you showed your interest for this roleplay when I had a recruitment thread posted awhile back but I don't think you ever finished a character sheet if I remember correctly. Yes, we do have an open slot but unfortunately we had a group consensus to move the roleplay for the time being if not longer depending on how things play out with the roleplayers. You are more than welcome to join us if you like to and if so feel free to PM me and I can give you the details.
So I definitely came up with this week's discussion because I Stayin' Alive from Bee Gees stuck in my head all day today but anyways...

With NewGuild getting close to its one year mark I've noticed that there are a few roleplays reaching the nine, ten or even sometimes the eleven month mark which I have to applaude you guys who are doing that. Hopefully RPGN will be able to showcase you in the next few months as you all reach your one year mark. Running a roleplay of my own I've seen the effort it take to have a roleplay last that long not only from the GM but the roleplayers as well however doing so can create an awesome roleplay not only in the IC but sometimes with the dynamics between the different RPers. It would be nice seeing more roleplays move bast the infancy stages and last for the long haul so I thought it would be great to hear from you all on your thoughts on it.

So to get the ball rolling on a discussion here are a few questions to get started:

What have you seen work as a roleplayer or as a GM on keeping a roleplay alive? What are some common pitfalls that can cause the premature death of a roleplay and how can someone overcome them? What are some tips or hints for GM on how they can keep a roleplay alive? How can a roleplayer help in this aspect?
Hello Angron and welcome to RPG! I hope you enjoy your stay here and enjoy those roleplays you mentioned you are interested in. If you need any help at all feel free to ask and me or someone else will be more than willing to help out.
Personally I love long meaningful posts, especially in the first post. I enjoy being able to read more about the what is to take place and what the general feel of the roleplay is going to be like because you can't always get that in the OOC. Sure, if it's line after line of utter crap that is a no-go for me but I like reading more about the background and having things established within the OP so that when I start to write out my post I know what I am doing.

However I have a feeling that I am not in the majority here. Long posts can make people uneasy especially if they think they have to reciprocate the post with something equally as long. Not only that, a post that is more dense and longer is going to take more time to read and process the post to figure what all is happening and what exactly the OP is trying to portray. One thing that I've seen that helps with this is gradually introduce more information so that if the roleplay is capable of doing so, have the background information span over the first few posts so that they roleplayers can have manageable post size to digest instead of some monstrous sized post slapping them in the face when they check and see the first post.

I hope you enjoy your stay here and good luck on starting up those roleplays.
Welcome Rant! If you been a long-time roleplayer I can't think of any advise that you probably already know. Good luck on finding a roleplay!
