“Well, lead the way then,”

The girl who introduced herself as Audra Hesten appeared to be trembling slightly even through her bold words. Petra herself was practically jumping out of her dust covered clothing. She couldn’t quite tell whether it was from excitement from meeting another person from her home town or an inexplicable feeling of what could possibly be coming. Their steps seemed to echo off of the high ceiling of the academy as they continued following Rowena down the hallway. No one seemed to recognize anyone aside from the lady elf leading who seemed to understand everything while the rest of us seemed to be equally confused. Petra glanced around to see if any of the others were going to follow Audra’s example and introduce themselves to his newly formed group of gifted strangers. After a brief pause Petra decided to take the initiative and follow suit.

“I’m Petra Ducat, also from Diedremere,” she nervously pulled at the end of her sleeve as she attempted to suppress this unusual burst of shyness. “I was a mine worker down in the tunnels there," Petra turned towards Audra to find out more about how she came to Jeorva from their home.

"So were you a cook for the miners? Diedremere is a small town so I'm sure we've had several encounters but I can't seem to place exactly when and where. Did you live in the heart of town?"
Petra was absolutely dumbfounded. An elf? The unmistakable voice from her dream was an elf? Why would an elf call her to Jeorva? What does this woman need her and these other girls for? She certainly had a difficult time trusting this mysterious woman but she couldn’t deny that her curiosity had been peeked.

“Sorry, but did you just say there are others? Who else are we looking for?”

Wait did Petra just say ‘we’? She had no idea who these people were! So far, she met the hesitant red headed girl who stood in front of her and the young lady who seemed to have wounded the cloaked elf with her sudden realization. The same lady elf who also happened to have a long sword in an academy (which Petra was determined to ask about during the time for explanation). Actually, there was no better time to discover more about this woman like the present.

“Why are you carrying a sword? And wearing armor? Why-”

After seeing the apologetic look on her face, Petra quickly shut her mouth and nodded acknowledging her willingness to follow the elusive cloaked woman. She had absolutely no idea what was in store but anxiously anticipated learning more about ‘the others’.
Petra followed the kind woman to the furthest corner of the library where enormous volumes were covered in what seemed like years of dust. People must have not looked at these volumes since before the wars started.

“Hold out our arms please.”

“Oh um, alright.”

As Petra extended her arms forward for the librarian, the shirt sleeve from her brown tunic inched up to reveal the scribblings on Petra’s forearm.

“What’s this now? Were you having a difficult time finding a scroll to write down your notes? I do have a few spare parcels-"

“Oh no thank you. I was just jotting down a few thoughts. Nothing that can’t be remembered should it wash away.”

She timidly smiled at the librarian while pulling at the edge of her sleeve to help cover her wrists. Petra felt uncomfortable at the thought of sharing her thoughts with anyone so the idea of having to explain to this kind woman why Petra couldn’t stop thinking of her dream was slightly nerve wracking. She had come to Jeorva just as the dream had instructed and had patiently spent her time in the Academy. She was begin to feel antsy again like before when she had to wait to set off on her journey. This isn’t where she needed to be.

“Please excuse me.”

She handed the volumes of books back to the startled librarian and headed straight for the exit. She knew reading those books weren’t going to bring her any closer to discovering why she was called her and who summoned her here in the first place. As she barreled through the large double doors, she looked inwardly on her instincts to where she should go next. There seemed to be a pull coming from the end of the hallway where a small group of people were gathered. Perhaps they could help explain the strange dream Petra couldn’t get off of her mind.
Biggest apologies! Got a nasty virus right after finals. (nice timing) :/
Post will be up by tomorrow morning MDT.
There was so much to do! So much to learn! How could anyone know where to start?

Petra had been rattling her brain trying to understand the complex library books from the academy. Maybe it was her simple upbringing or small town education but she didn’t see the relevance of anything written in these books. Sure it made sense that certain parts working together would create something else but this was all theoretical. Why would people spend their time studying theories and fanciful guesses when they could be out in the world learning about indisputable facts. For example, from Petra’s extensive time in the mines, she knew that the average time for people eyes to adjust to darkness is 18 seconds and if you apply all of your effort during the start off a day, not only will you run out of energy by noon but you'll be sore for at least a week. Why wasn’t this information in these books?

She returned all of the 'Theory' books and began browsing around for something that sparked her interest. 'Pixie Anatomy?' No, not really. She didn't care much for learning about those little creatures. 'Orcs, Goblins, and trolls. Oh my!' She didn't even stop to read the back of that book. 'Earth and its many Properties' Yes! This was just what she was looking for.

After what seemed like mere minutes of reading, she closed the large book and looked around. Practically everyone had left and she noticed the sunlight quickly disappearing behind the low mountains surrounding Jeorva.

She wanted to be inside those mountains so badly. She yearned for the endless hours beneath the earth and the companionship of the rocks. She let out a deep sigh and stood up from her chair. As Petra placed the book down on the table, it rocked on the edge and fell to the floor with a loud BANG. Everyone slowly turned and looked at Petra as she turned a deep shade of red. She crouched down to pick up the book only to see someone had already retrieved the book and was smiling up at her.

“Oh, thanks for getting that.”

A wide toothy smile appeared on the stranger's face.

“No problem. “
The kind woman glanced at the book cover and looked over again at Petra with a raised brow.
“So, 'Earth and its many Properties' huh?”

“Yeah it seems like the only volume that makes sense in this entire library.” She jokingly replied as she retrieved the book from the outstretched hand of the woman.

“Well, if you want, there are some really interesting volumes just over this aisle.”

She began walking in the direction she indicated but notice Petra wasn't immediately following. The woman turned and smiled over at Petra.
“They're just this way. Come on.”

How is it that every citizen Petra ran into treated her so kindly? She had heard such negative things about the people here in Jeorva but had yet to experience one slightly unpleasant remark or look. She quickly shook her fuzzy thoughts aside and followed after this woman. She seemed to know the place well enough, why not trust her judgment?
@NightFlight

NightFlight's computer has been out of commission for a while. She's been trying to get it fixed but it looks like she won't be able to post until she gets to her parents on Tuesday.

Mine will be up by the end of today. (before 10pm)
Took forever but Petra's departure is finally up. Super excited to see how we'll all come together!
Petra could barely sleep due to the anticipation of the journey on the morrow. She tossed and turned all night until finally deciding to set off for Jeorva in the wee hours of the morning. She walked in the brisk early hours with the breeze blowing the loose strands of her light brown hair in all different directions. She glanced at the small cottages in her hometown of Deidremere and said a silent goodbye to everyone sleeping soundly, unaware of Petra’s departure. Soon they would wake up and begin harvesting for the day and head down into the mines to begin the long day underground. By then, Petra would be halfway to Jeorva and beginning her new life.

She wasn't entirely sure what to expect in this new chapter of her life. All she knew is that she needed to get to the academy. She would have left immediately after she felt the initial pull except she had no idea how she was going to explain her absence to her supervisor, Xavier. He would have asked too many questions and she would never be able to explain herself without disregarding the warning in her dream. She decided it would be best to leave in the still of the night while everyone slept to avoid any suspicion and unwanted questions.

As the day grew brighter, Jeorva began to become clearer in the distance. Petra could hardly suppress her anticipation to see this exotic new city. Unable to with hold her excitement, she bolted for the front gates only to slow to a jog when noticing the giant orcs guarding the entrance to the city. She had heard about the orc soldiers that roamed the city but was slightly unprepared for their gruesome demeanor.

"State your business, foreigner.” the larger orc growled.

I am traveling from Deidremere to come and buy materials to create carts for the mines.” Petra's confident voice did not waver as she told her bold face lie. Her stone wall face gave no sign of the fearsome pounding of her heart.

“Enter” The orc stated carelessly, waving Petra forward.

As Petra took her first steps into Jeorva, she could feel the shift in the atmosphere as she left behind her world of solid earth and stone, for that of a bustling city.
@Baklava
Petra would leave immediately after receiving the vision due to her excitement about discovering more about her abilities and possibly finding others like herself.
Also is this color alright?
Name: Petra Ducrat

Element: Earth/Stone

Age: 18 years of age

Gender: Female

Theme Song: youtube.com/watch?v=1ZLV7g1ILvI

Nature/Appearance: Petra is a sturdy young woman who knows the meaning of hard work. You wouldn’t guess by her curvy, feminine figure but beneath the usual dark pants and over-sized shirts she is normally wearing, her body holds a surprising amount of strength and power.

She normally ties her shoulder length nut brown hair back into an unkempt bun to keep it out of her eyes. Her mud brown eyes are normally intent and focused on the task in front of her. Her determination can be seen through her strong frame in her 5'8 body. Most people who see her assume she wouldn’t understand “adult work” but little do they know that she gained that comprehension at a very young age.

Backstory: Petra was born and raised in Diedremere where her family had resided for several generations. Her father and brother kept food on the table, quite literally, with their hunting skills and by selling the extra meat to the local butcher. Petra would spend the day with her mother, feeding the miners who worked so diligently from dusk to dawn. She had always enjoyed hearing the stories the miners shared, barely allowing them to finish their story before shooting another question their way.

Petra couldn’t quite describe why she felt so drawn to the miners and their stories but aside from her family, that was the only strong bond she had in her life. The clearest and closest bond she had was the one she shared with her twin brother. These two were practically inseparable and would occasionally tease their parents by dressing like the other. Their identical freckles and bright smiles were the outward features that reflected their playful spirits. They would occasionally display their playful nature by running around by the base of the mountain and seeing how far the other could climb. Little did they know, how much they were playing with fate.

On the day of her and her brother’s birthday, the Ducat family deciding to climb the mountain near their home to celebrate the birth of these two special children. As Petra and her family set off for the mountain, she couldn’t help shake this eerie feeling she had simmering in her chest. The skies were clear and the breeze was light so she hiked alongside her family, up the mountain to where they would have their picnic. The day was as close to perfect as it possibly could have been….until they began their trek home.

They were coming around the final pass before the descent into their village when the mountain began to shift beneath them. Her father immediately shielded his family by stretching his arms over them. He encompassed them in his protective stance when the boulders began falling. They rolled right past them at first but then began to get dangerously close. Soon the world went black.

By the time Petra came to her senses, the villagers had already rushed to the rock slide and pulled her from the aftermath. As she awoke, she stood up shakily staggering over to her brother and gently squeezed his hand. “Kellan, we made it. Where’s papa and mama?” Kellan gave no response so she tried again. Horrified by the reality that was beginning to sneak in, she shook her brother’s shoulders only to find that no matter how hard she tried, Kellan was not going to wake up.

She felt like the earth was angry with her for ignoring the warning it so graciously gave. Well, she would show the earth just how “grateful” she was. At the young age of 14, Petra became the youngest mining worker in the village. She would angrily thrust her pick ax into the rough earth and envision her hard work as a way to gain vengeance on the murderous earth. Her once playful nature was stifled and replaced with a dark hatred fueled by the desire to lash back on the one thing that took what mattered to her most.

She blamed the mountain for taking her family from her and leaving her all alone. Oddly enough, the only place she didn’t feel alone was in the mines. As she continued to grow in strength and beauty, she took notice of a strange attachment she felt to the environment around her. She felt strongest when covered in the dust from mining the stones and the grainy sand beneath her.

Petra celebrated each birthday in the darkest caves that ran beneath the mountain. She used to imagine the ceiling caving in and her being helpless to escape. As she would lie there on the cold, hard ground, she felt like her family was sitting around her, celebrating like they did on the day of the tragedy. But something was different this year. Petra didn’t see anything special about her 17th birthday but as she placed her rough palms faced down on the earth, she was shocked to feel a pulse running the cave and throughout the surrounding area. She felt each shift of the stones as feet crunched them beneath their boots.

Shocked by this odd vision of sorts, she retracted her hands, stood up, and immediately left the cave. Determined to not experience that abnormal circumstance again, she vowed not return to the caves for several weeks. As the days dragged on, she found herself become sluggish and having hazy thoughts. She could not pinpoint the source of her discomfort but continued living her life outside of the mines.

When the moon had passed through a full cycle, Petra finally decided it was time to return to the caves. She was transfixed by this feeling she had upon returning to her work in the mines. It almost felt like an embrace from mother earth herself. From that point on, Petra returned to the caves every night to find out why she felt so drawn to the stones and soil around her. She imagined the quiet conversations she would have with the living earth as she meditated each night, palms facing down, their separate heartbeats becoming one.

Goal: Petra wants to continue learning more about her abilities by discovering why she has this connection to the earth and what exactly that means to her. She also wants to find out if she is the only one with these capabilities.
