Quick post to get the plot moving into the next room.
Here's a small map of the place we're going through, I spent 10000000000 hours in paint to make this.

Even though an Ork could probably make just as good an artwork, I actually like that drawing a lot. Gives us a better picture of the actual room :D

(Protip: Maybe add markings for windows & other objects of note. So far, I was assuming that there were only windows on the left side.)
@Skyrte Daemonologists can teleport? wots dis? I know that heretical psykers can do jumps but its super dangerous for em. All said though i'm not annoyed by the telly-porting. Its hardly lore hammer of the year.

Only telly-porting i really know of is by using a Telly beacon which is terminator and grey knight level tech.

Gate of Infinity is teleportation/portal magic though, and is situated under the Telekinesis psyker specialization!

wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Telekinesis

Probably one of the main reasons I choose to give Adrianne the specialization, aside from being a wannabe-Magneto xD
@swich01
Although I did not have access to that list, I did know about the potential side-effects that could occur from casting abilities. I'll definitely use the list as inspiration though. Some of those side effects sounded rather fun xD

That is actually why Adrianne wears so much protective armor (environmental suit + armor + refractor field). It's not just for potential enemies, but also to protect her against backlashes from her own casting! :P (she did accidentally teleport herself out into the vacuum of space on one occasion)

Usually when writing for Adrianne, I envision what power she should cast (inspired by the listed abilities in Lexicanum), a side effect suitable themed for the ability(like a telekinetic spell could end up inadvertently messing with the local gravity), time on cast(the more time used to prepare/focus on the ability, the safer) and then taking into account the intensity of the cast (bigger the spell, bigger the danger). And of course, abilities cast outside of combat are less likely to cause a side effect.

Granted, it's a subjective judgement based on what I think is most suitable for the situation, as I don't bring a set of dice when writing my posts xD

Very big ego? Where, I saw nothing in that regard!

That ego is mostly centered around her mastery over the warp more than anything else. She is usually very hard to make angry... unless you mention her powers :P

As for people wanting to see crazy side-effects, don't worry, I got it planned, but I'll remind you all that Adrianne hasn't even gotten the chance to cast a single combat spell yet ^_^
Before you start the nuclear holocaust, you gotta invent how to split the atom!
Thanks for the constructive criticism, @swich01 :P

I took most of my psyker information from here
wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Psyker

Adrianne, although mostly known for her ability of Divination, is actually most adapt at Telekinesis, which does include the ability of teleportation. The exact difficulty of teleportation seems to be very subjective from my understanding, with some stories featuring psykers capable of flickering back and forth between the immaterium and real world, while other stories had it be an utmost rarity. I went for something in-between.

I always intended for Adrianne to be a reckless character, which she has been since a certain event in her backstory(before that, she actually used to be quite timid). Even the skull shaped onto her helmet is tainted by the warp, as it was once the skull of one of Adrianne's very own colleagues who fell to the warp(she doesn't tell this to anyone though), and she wears it not only to boost her own ego and a reminder that she was the superior psyker, but also because it connects her closer to the warp, amplifying her abilities.

Essentially, she is the kind of person who will cut down security measure for amplified effect.

Though perhaps the greatest reason why she uses her powers so freely, even in idle circumstances, has to do with the people she has been assigned to in the past. Most of her hosts have been rather relaxed about her powers, and given her much leeway.

Most of her assignments have been to people like extravagant & confident noblemen who often saw her powers as much as entertainment as dangerous abilities that should be respected less they invoke a daemon invasion. That, and the Imperial Guard, where most officers were happy as long as she divined the correct enemy positions and made enough orks go airborne. In fact, if her old trainers saw how liberal some of the individuals she was sent to actually were, they would put on a tantrum!

But perhaps the most important reason for Adrianne's reckless use of her own powers is because she genuinely enjoys it. She loves nothing more than to feel the rush of a powerful spell. And usually, the greater, wilder & more uncontrollable warp energies, the greater the rush. She is, one could almost say, a psychic-junkie!

Adrianne has a very big ego, and is prideful in her abilities to the point of over-confidence. When it comes to her casting, those two personal traits are perhaps the most profound for explaining her behavior!

TLDR: Adrianne is reckless, lacks respect for danger, overconfident, and her pride will most likely get herself killed - someday.

P.S
Oh, and I simply use "spell" because I couldn't think of another word to describe her unique abilities, and most people assume psykers = space wizards anyway :D

And our psyker wonders why people have no confidence, eh? I wonder what Skyrte will be doing now that we are all in the hallway of doom.

It would be a wonderful moment to spring whatever trap he might have in mind!

Let's hope our Vindicator is watching and not asleep :P
@Rithy I was kinda wondering, how much do you know about psykers in 40k? There was just a few things that seemed a bit... off.

Enough to know that they are almost more trouble than they are worth to the Imperium, and that they usually have a finger in most major disasters :P
@Lotta Pumpkins

Ben better hope some miracle happens during the gallery run to improve relations. Adrianne can be a foul & particularly vengeful prankster, and the fact that she has the power to manipulate the physical realm does not help her habbit one bit xD
As Ben left to walk down the corridor, Adrianne stood still as a statue; her skeletal max simply fixed in the direction of Ben. But secretly, on the inside of her suit and armor, the woman was literally fuming! Ben's audacity to speak in such a way about her, questioning her control over her very powers to such an extent was nothing short of infuriating!

"Woe betide you, petty man. As soon as we are out of these cursed halls, I'll show you 'how little control I have over my powers'!"

The fingers in Adrianne's left hand were literally twitching as the psyker watched Ben's back, genuinely considering the option of using her powers to throw the man out the nearest window!
But, the danger such a rash action could cause Zhevon, alongside Stukov's attempt to mediate the situation was enough to dissuade Adrianne from exacting rightful vengeance on the feeble minded soldier - for the moment...

"The concern goes likewise. Do not get yourself killed." Adrianne would finally take a deep breath and turn to Stukov, nodding emphatically in return to the armsman. She choose to keep her speech short, lest her anger towards Ben be made too obvious in the presentation of her words.

She could appreciate Stukov's concern for her safety, and willingness to stick one out for her should something happen. The only thing the psyker doubted however was the man's ability. He was, after all, a mere man with no unique affinity for the warp. What resistance could he ever mount against a sizable challenge posed by the menacing energies of the warp that wouldn't just tear Stukov apart?

Supposedly the man had survived an entire ship that had been lost and devoured by the warp, so perhaps there was a spark in him, somewhere.

Watching Zhevon, now followed by Ben and Stukov as they all walked down the pathway in what could only be described as the most frightening conga line ever, Adrianne recognized that the time of idleness as up as she would eventually have to move as well.

"Sometimes I hate this job... "

Closing her eyes, Adrianne would take a deep breath, pausing, before exhaling. She would repeat this four times, feeling her thoughts, both hopes and fears evaporate from her mind.

As her mind was sufficiently empty, she would take the first step down the pathway, eyes still closed behind her mask and with her staff clutched tightly in her right hand. She walked down the path with the same tranquility of mind as that of a prisoner on her way to the gallows who had made her peace. There was no fear, no doubt, no second thoughts. The world could have ended at that moment, but she still would not have cared. The physical world, with all its drama and concerts of revolution mattered not in her mind.

Everything was quiet - until she stepped past the first row of statues. As her body passed the first set, it was as if she was met by a physical wall that immediately slowed her down, hitting her body like a heavy wave! Staggered but not broken, Adrianne would finish her step before walking onward.

Around her, the voices that had been mere whispers earlier at the entrance of the gallery were now screaming like a pit of a thousand mouths! But the orgy of screams was muffled outside of her head, sounding to her as if she was underwater. But despite the clarity and emptiness provided by her meditative trance, she could still feel some of the voices breaking through her head.

"Cast off your shackles, young one. You deserve your freedom!"
"Do not waste your potential serving an archaic order - you were born for greater things!"
"You are a puppet, Valenthin. A petty slave!"
"They have blinded you, child. They have taken away your destiny! How could you have let this happen?!"
"Come back to us. We still remember you. We forgive you. You will always be welcome, at Mordran V... "

"I will not waste my attention listening to inferior life forms. Your destruction is the proof of my supremacy. I walk forever forward without regrets, never looking back, while you are but faded memories, the only thing left behind in my wake."

The voices were all familiar to her. She had heard them before. Somewhere far, far away.

But she did not listen. She choose not to. She had defied them once before, and she would do so again. But though she choose to ignore them, it still felt as though the very fabric of time and space was shifting in the room as she walked through it!

She could feel energies coursing through the air around her, powerful sources of arcane might long hidden from the world. A low hum emanated from the staff in her hand, as if it was attracting the very energies of the room! Indeed, she felt like a conduit, attracting to herself the wild and chaotic energies that had once laid dormant around her! It was an exhilarating feeling. She felt renewed, as if someone had just stabbed a needle of adrenaline straight through her body! Her mind began to become unquiet, as an urge grew inside of her. She wanted to lash out against the petty voices of the room, to use their own power against them by demolishing the entire hallway!

Her fingers gripped ever harder around the handle of her staff, holding the wood with an unnatural strength that made the very structure creak! One could start to see small, purple lights appear even through the shaded visors of the skeletal eyes sockets of her helmet! Fueled by the energies around her, Adrianne felt unstoppable. Every being of her body wanted to just release her powers, but she choose to defy her instinct!

"No, I'll make it to the end... fifth statue, that's the fifth row. We'll get there, yes, we will... "
Adrianne is just a girl who is very sensitive about her powers :3
Adrianne is starting to feel as if her psychic talent is not being fully appreciated! :O

Throwing spells in a warp tainted house where the barrier between reality and the immaterium is at its weakest is always the most fun, and makes for the coolest and most powerful of spells! Throwing them anywhere else is like trying to barbecue during a rainstorm :P
