It seemed like the caravan master's call for arms awakened the adventurous spirit in the others. Not only was Parum and the other three going to accompany her, but some deep gnomes and other guardsmen as well. Parum was a bit concerned that they should leave some here, but surely they wouldn't leave the caravan completely defenseless. There was some time before everyone was going to set out, so Parum checked her gear. She left behind the nonessential, taking only things such as rope, weapons, armor, and of course her viol. Parum drew her rapier and with a flick of her wrist, a string slide down the back of the blade and onto a hook just at the tip of the rapier, turning the sword into a viol bow. Parum spent her time tuning her viol to ensure that it had the best quality for music and spellcasting. If she was going to fight a dragon, she was going to put on a great performance.

Once she was done everyone was just about ready to leave. Parum sheathed her rapier and put her viol away, chasing after the group. She was small, so she occasionally lagged behind, but she kept up nonetheless. The other bigger people like the half-orc and warrior had taken point, and Parum tried to catch up with them. Once they were at Greenest Parum definitely noticed something was off. In the distance beyond the smoke, she could see barns and hay bales on fire, but none of the other buildings. It wasn't as if they were all made of stone either; some seemed quite flammable, but empty. The half-orc shouted out questions which nearly made Parum want to put a hand over his mouth. This entire situation screamed ambush to her. "Ssh! Be quiet! There might be others here, raiders or looters." Parum said in a hush voice.

She noticed three buildings near by that looked empty, but had their doors forced open. It certainly seemed like they've been raided by brigands, but Parum still found the lack of anyone here odd. "Hmm. Maybe the villagers already knew about the dragon coming and left the village in advance. If the dragon also knew this, he would have no reason to burn down the homes knowing there was no one inside... Though the type of dragon who'd burn down a village might not really care if people were inside or not... And I don't remember running into any villagers while we traveled through here. Surely one of them would have come our way and warned us." Parum said to herself. Those buildings seemed suspicious, so she tried to sneak over to them and get a look inside.
Zarya smiled politely as the guards ceased their advance and reprimanded the merchant. She didn't approve of the Khergit man rough handling the young boy. Unlike him, she understood the boy's reluctance. He wasn't a warrior, and shouldn't be expected to act like one just because the Khergit man told him to. When the man walked up to Zarya to “discuss his contract”, Zarya smile faded. She honestly did not care what his business was. That being said, she supposed she could indulge him. Who knows, it may even be profitable. “I am Zarya. We may speak later.”

But before she would barter with the merchant, she went up to the boy the Khergit man had struck. She took out one of her spare handkerchiefs and used it to wipe away whatever dirt or blood was on the boy's face. “Don't be scared of him. You were very brave to have made it this far. You can be so much stronger too, if you really want to. All you need is some weapons and armor and you can show him how brave you really are.” Zarya left her handkerchief with the boy as she turned towards the merchant. Unlike with the big or the Khergit man, Zarya was stone cold.

“I will forgive you once. I will not do so a second time. If you have any honor as a merchant and want some sort of penance for your mistake, then let us do business. My guardian was unreasonable with his prices, so I am willing to sell our produce for 400 denar. If we succeed in liberating Rebache, we may even remember the merchant who was so gracious to do business with us.”
Sorry about that, my phone is stupid. They should NOT be a struggle at level five as much as they were at level 1. In fact I kinda like the catharsis of being able to easily defeat enemies who once gave me a hard time. It shows progress.
I don't mind the milestone idea, though I do share the same concerns as Harbinger does. While I understand that itll get boring always fighting the same weak enemies, a group of orcs I struggled with at level one should not still be a struggle at level 5 if they're from the same group.
There was nothing better than the life of an adventurer. Sure being wealthy or powerful may be the biggest things people want, but that just meant being an adventurer was the best way to get it. Not to mention all the new places they go to, new people they meet, and interesting things they find. Parum was certainly enjoying it. She had joined this caravan at the last town they stopped at, offering her services as a caravan guard as well as a spell caster. Also, she played the viol for some extra coin on the side, earning her a meager 10 gold thus far. While not enough to buy anything luxurious, it would be enough for a stay at an inn with a good meal and a bath.

Parum hasn’t really been able to develop much of an opinion on the others, aside from the fact that they are fairly interesting characters in their own right, though a bit… Cliche. The half-orc was a half-dressed barbarian, which didn’t surprise Parum in the slightest. There was an aasimar who was a paladin and, based off how her armor was designed, must be of noble birth. Only someone with high social status would have the money to buy armor as stylish as hers, even if it looked like gutted platemail. The wood elf was a ranger who Parum marked as an entertainer of sorts based off her possessions, and the halfling was interested in trying to organize a performance with her one day. Then there was the human with the big sword, who Parum assumed was just a mercenary or traveling warrior. He did seem… Off in a way, but Parum had no real clue what this meant. She hopes to find out soon.

Aside from them there were the caravan master and his helpers. They were hospitable enough, offering the food when it was dinner time and allowing her to sit in the wagon when the road was long. They were, if nothing else, professionals. As such they made sure to leave the jobs of protecting the caravan to hired hands and those willing to fight, and made careful consideration when heading into danger. Such as when Addio, the leader of the caravan, stopped them and formed a protective wagon circle. It was strange at first, but Parum quickly figured out what was going on simply by looking into the sky; smoke in the distance and a dragon in the sky.

Addio didn’t even need to ask for volunteers when Parum stepped off the wagon. Of course by the time she got there, three others had already showed up. The half-orc, the warrior, and the elf. ”I should probably figure out what their names are...” Parum said to herself when she stepped up to the group. Compared to the others who looked like grizzled warriors, Parum looked like a dainty actress, what with her faux armor being no more effective than a leather shirt, and instead of a sword or other weapon in hand, Parum had her viol. It also didn’t help that because she was a halfling, she was absolutely child-like next to the others. Yet she stood as one of the valiant heroes because she knew the caravan needed someone to investigate the village ahead. And the chance to meet a live dragon up close wasn’t something that Parum would pass up.

”Count me in! My name is Parum, and I’ll accompany you to save the village and find out why the dragon is here.”
Meirin Kurenai

Meirin was pleased when Ssarak took notice of the effort she went through to dress up for him. She did feel a bit guilty not being aware that Ssarak culturally wouldn't have understood the reasons she dressed, so she didn't hold it against him. Meirin understood how his people would only use clothing for necessity and not waste such resources on niceties, which even her own monastery didn't entirely practice. After all, they weren't truly monks, but artist. They practiced martial arts in the form of dance, learned how to harmonize with nature in a way that benefits both man and the wild, and often used their excess supplies to create works of art as a form of meditation. Their rules and aesthetic lifestyle was self-imposed as oppose to how harsh the Scortched Lands were, where nature had worse things than foxes and the occasional bear. Djarkel was only sometimes on fire.

Still, Meirin wouldn't let this chance slip by. She punched Ssarak playfully in the chest, though she aimed for his solar plexus to give him a bit of a jolt. "For a mind reader, you aren't very good at figuring out people's intentions, are you?" Meirin giggled as she teased Ssarak, moving a little bit forward. "I can't say I understood either. In hindsight, I can see why I was never more than an acolyte back at my monastery. I was the best fighter of my age there, and if I went back now I would be the strongest mage, if only because I'm can actually use magic. I was so focused on training my body and growing stronger that I missed the... Meaningful things in life." Contemplating her words, Meirin turned around to face Ssarak, hiding have her face behind her sleeve so he could only see her eyes.

"hen I first came here, I only wanted to learn how to control my magic so that I could become stronger. To become a better warrior. But if that was the case, than my teachers could have taught me how to control magic. Perhaps not as well as the college, but enough not to hurt myself. However they wanted me to leave the monastery so that I could learn more about the world and those within it. When I first brought these clothes my first thought was how pretty they were, followed by how useless it was. But then I realized that while this dress would normally be in the hands of a noble or some woman with too much wealth, it was painstakingly crafted by an artist. This dress wasn't made to be torn apart and tossed aside, but as a representation of the skills and effort the craftsman had spent much of his life to master. To dismiss it simply because it has no practical use... It would be as insulting as saying my skills in battle are pointless during a time of peace."

In a way Meirin actually pitied Ssarak. He lived in a place were strife and struggle were rampant. They had to put all their effort merely to survive, and had no time to actually live. Such a lifestyle would produce the type of people who civilized people would consider savage and barbarians, because they're more concerned about the simple things like survival, rather than complex concepts like artistry. Fortunately it seems that the Scorched Lands didn't make such uncouth people, if Ssarak was any indication. "That's merely my thoughts. Sometimes there is no meaning for something except that it was wanted." Another chuckle escaped Meirin's mouth as she lowered her hand and smiled at Ssarak. "Though that sounds like a temptation my teachers would warn me about. Don't you agree?"

Myrn Vaan'Atisha

Myrn only smiled as Lyamis gave her his trademark snark. Perhaps his he had no sense of humor or was naturally deadpan, but Myrn found him funny. He seemed so... Serious. Granted Myrn did understand why the naga would be so cautious of her, but then again she might not. All the more reasons why she came here to question them. But before she would ask her questions, it only felt appropriate that she give Lyamis some answers. "The fact you're leaving is precisely why I've come all this way to talk to you. It's not often that I get to speak to a naga, especially one as important to their society as you. And I figured if I kept introducing myself, even the naga who do not speak to me would get more familiar with who I am. Plus, this is just a flesh wound." The flesh wound which Myrn was referring to was the heavily bandaged shoulder. Due to how chaotic things were the day the students came back from the catacombs, Myrn wasn't able to immediately get magical healing from one of the teachers like Lidda, and had to settle for more conventional methods. She was given some treatment a few days later, and while the wound has healed her arm was still feeling the effects of the Ridge Hound's bite. Myrn counted her blessings that it was the only serious attack she took that day, or else she would be short a few limbs.

"I'm sure you want to leave as soon as possible, so I'll get right onto the questions." Myrn produced a thick book and an ink feather. She had a ink-well built into her book to allow quick application of ink. "I still have many questions about your culture. For starters, what are your thoughts about demons? I understand that your home is near the Ravine of Demons, so I imagine that the naga came into contact with them a lot. Have they ever considered any sort of peace with them, or has it always been conflicts? Additionally, what are the naga's thoughts about magic? While it is still a wild and mysterious force for even those of the college, there's no doubt that magic is involved in everyone's lives, weather they are capable of utilizing it or not. I also understand that a naga was sent here to the college after she was discovered to have mageblood. What were the first reactions to this discovery? What were the circumstances which made her come here? Has the naga ever practiced any sort of rituals or religious ceremonies that you would think is 'Magic'? Do nagas worship any gods? And what about the naga's ability to resurrect themselves similarly to undead after suffering mortal wounds? That isn't a natural, or at least normal, thing for most creatures to do. Do you have any idea what may be the cause of this? I am told that it is linked to one's emotional state, but what would you consider to be a strong enough emotion to evoke it, more so near death? Also has there ever been any naga hybrids with other races that you know of? Have nagas ever had children with people of other races? How would you describe the mentality of a naga compared to other races? I have also heard that there are nagas who live in the oceans, do you know much about them?"

Myrn's questions came a mile a minute and she expected that Lyamis would be overwhelmed by the sheer volume. Fortunately Myrn already had these questions written down for each page, allowing her to write at least two pages of information for whatever Lyamis would respond with. And if he was at all familiar with how Myrn operated, there were plenty of more questions left. Some minor, some major, but all of them were important to Myrn.
I noticed. I just wanted to ask first before I app my character.
I was thinking a Halfling Bard. She's a scholar of sorts (She doesn't like the term sage because that implies she's old) who wants to travel the world and unravel mysteries both magical and mundane. She's mainly a spell caster though she is handy with a knife. While she isn't a blaster caster, she can still help out the party with buffs and such and shut down specific enemies with her spells. Mainly I hope to use her for knowledge checks, specifically arcane and history so she'll always be useful delving into ancient ruins and such. She is a bit on the squishy side however, and despite her intellect she's naive and not good at reading people or noticing details.

I'll admit she's better suited as the NPC the party escorts through a dungeon rather than a bonefide party member, since I don't really intend to bolster her combat ability. She'll join up with the Lore College to further expand her knowledge and hopefully be helpful to the party.
Hello. I was invited to join this RP. Is there room for me?
That's fine.
