I was thinking of having it as a standard bike, with wheels as the primary motive power, but he'd also managed to install a salvaged hovercoil so the bike could make long jumps when needed (or when trying to impress a girl.)

Since he'd be a skilled but self-taught mechanic most of his gear would've been custom built from whatever he could find or salvage, and may not always be reliable. Other equipment I was thinking of having him carry would be a long-range scanner capable of detecting power sources and metal, which he'd use to track down useful salvage in the desert, and a magnetic coil 'railgun' which would use nails and other metallic debris for ammunition.

At some point one of his inventions would've literally blown up in his face, requiring him to have his left eye replaced with a cybernetic implant. Exactly where and when this had been done is something he doesn't like to talk about much, but then again he doesn't like to talk about anything very much, apart from technology.
I'm tinkering with the idea of a bounty hunter ship enthusiast who's always been obsessed with the Lone Star

Sounds interesting. Wouldn't like to see his face if the party start shooting holes in 'his' ship though.
Started the roleplay thread here. Feel free to drop character ideas and profiles there when you're ready.

No-one knew exactly when the ship first drifted into the system but as soon as word that it was the Lone Star, thought to have been lost with all hands a decade earlier, every freebooter, scavenger and rogue trader were racing to be the first to board her. Stories of the alien and ancient treasures hidden within her hull had them all salivating and before long the first bodies began to appear in back alleys and floating in rivers.

Finally the United Alliance Navy stepped in to quarantine the derelict, using the threat of alien diseases and possible contamination as an excuse to hold back the looters until a properly funded and equipped salvage mission could be mounted. Somehow you managed to make the shortlist for the crew, whether due to your skills, social connections or simply because they couldn't find anyone else willing to take the risk of cracking the possibly deadly seals on the ship's airlocks, and now as you sat on the shuttle launched towards the wreck you wonder to yourself whether the more than generous bounty being paid was really worth it.

I think they're onto me and I won't be able to delay the Navy much longer. Whatever you're gonna do, you'd better get it done fast. At this rate the Rats'll be all over that ship within the week.

GET YOUR CREW ON BOARD THAT WRECK NOW!

Looking for a likely team of space adventurers to help discover the secrets of the Lone Star, discovering both the fate of the original crew and the surprises hidden both on-board the ship and back home using a character driven narrative style where I'll be changing the course of events depending on the actions of players involved. Further details to be determined once players decide what sort of characters they'd like to portray, as the squad make-up will influence the events as much as the background.

The setting is a far future science fiction environment with all sorts of high-tech gadgets at your disposal and a mixed alien-human culture spanning many thousands of star systems. Players are invited to create their own characters and equip them with a reasonable array of skills and equipment which would be available to a privateer given access to a high-end military armoury while keeping in mind encumbrance and ammunition requirements (although these will be fairly open since advanced energy weapons and light-weight materials should make things easier for the crew.)

Anyone interested in participating should post up a brief synopsis of the character they'd like to play as, with as much creative freedom given to the creation as you'd like.

As far as tech goes there's no real limit to the usual kinds of equipment you'd find in a sci-fi adventure (ray guns, shields, power armour, etc.) and the only things I'd say no to would be time travelling devices and long-range teleporters. The first causes too many problems trying to keep events in order with multiple timelines floating around and the second would make the adventure too easy.

If you decide to give your character a piece of equipment I'd consider to be too powerful please expect it to be heavily nerfed before being included in the story. For instance, if you want a personal cloaking device, expect it to be subject to malfunctions if used for extended periods of time.
Got room for a quiet mechanic with a bionic eye and a customised hoverbike?
Could I be the team doctor? I'd be a kind of interstellar WHO worker who got canned for using unauthorized, possibly immoral, but effective, treatments.

I'd be happy to have a medic on the team, just as long as you save some of the pain meds for the patients. (and by patients I mean the after-show party.) :)

If you're still gonna host this, I'd like to throw my hat in.

Any ideas what sort of character you'd like to play as? So far we have a rookie, an archivist and a medic.

I'm looking for a party of four-five for this adventure, as the playtesting with seven got a little messy. Already have the full story prepared and ready to go, along with ship deck plans and other details.

And no, you won't be allowed to see the deck plans unless one of the characters can gain access to them in some way.
Hmmm definitely, maybe a disgraced archaeologist-type with an earnest and almost peverse interest in uncovering the secrets of the ship?

More a seeker after the potential alien artifacts then?
Interested, got an inkling of an idea for a pilot if that position would still be available?

Actually, thinking further on it, maybe an archivist type character?

A data wrangler who'd be able to work computer systems?
I'd love to play a rookie that somehow made the cut!

Always useful to have a rookie around, especially when you want to check whether a door's boobytrapped or not. >D
