It's like I've been waiting two and a half months for this post.
Name – Meilin “Lin” Xiao Yu

Age – 16

Gender – Female

Personality – Lin is everything a hero should strive to be, or so she believes: Courageous, kind, and full of burning passion for what she does and who she wants to be. She had grown up happy and healthy, surrounded by a loved family that helped mold her into the person she is today. Not without a heart, her hand will extend to any and all who wish to accept her help and her friendship, even to the point she may forgive a former enemy after enough trust has been built between the two. She is strongly opinionated and admittedly hardheaded in regards to the ‘correct’ matter of handling a variety of situations, leaving those around her to believe she is incredibly arrogant when in reality her convictions are just unshakable. Lin is rarely uncertain about the actions she chooses to take, knowing that she does it with the interests of the people at heart. She is normally cheerful and ecstatic of what tomorrow might bring, and the day after tomorrow as well.

Finding strength in friendships, creating bonds with a variety of people is one of her favorite pastimes. As a friend and a budding young woman, she is attracted to convictions that are similar to her own and a desire to help those who cannot help themselves. With a focus on bettering herself and the communities she comes across, Lin’s strength is found in her ability to cooperate with others and help lead them to a common goal with the least amount of difficulty. Though she one day desires renown for her ability as a warrior, the true goal is to better humanity as a whole and help guide whole communities onto a better path. Abundant with heroic qualities, Lin too hopes to one day be considered as a ‘hero’ to the people she seeks to protect.

Despite a strong inner fire, Lin is not invulnerable to weakness. She fears rejection by those close to her, this does include her physical appearance to people she genuinely finds attraction to, and is quite worried someone may insult her for not being quite as beautiful as other girls. In spite of not being a glory seeker, Lin also worries she will be too weak to be capable of protecting her friends and loved ones, causing a lingering anxiety deep within her heart. Nothing will ever be good enough, and so in her fear of failing to keep people she loves safe Lin may become distant at peak periods of this fear. A perfectionist to the core, she will master a new maneuver, technique, or weapon of choice until she knows it like the back of her hand. Lin will make any sacrifice necessary to save innocent people, even if they’ll never know her name.

Holding very pacifistic views, she hates unnecessary violence and condemns those who harm others. She is not delusional enough to believe that violence is not necessary, but hates seeing people capable of good committing harmful deeds. Underhanded tricks and blackmail, not to mention hostages or threats on innocents, are acts that do not earn forgiveness. She has no respect for those with greater strength that misuse it, and will sooner find respect for those who are weak and seek to become stronger, than those stronger who intend to control the weak. Lin enjoys healthy competition, but likes to learn in battle much more than she does to win. If you are much too competitive and hungry for a fight, she will always pity your pointless aggression.

Appearance – At a height of 5’5, Lin has a modest look about her, much to her dismay. With the lightly browned skin of her Chinese family and ancestors, what sets her apart from most girls her age is her muscle tone. Her arms and legs are much more defined in that the hard work put forth in exercise and remaining physically fit has paid off, results blatantly on display whenever her bare limbs are exposed. Prideful despite herself, Lin’s body is, feminine wise, not very impressive. Her chest is negligible, with the only obvious sign of her body coming into its own are her developing hips and waistline. In spite of her ‘lack of feminine quality’, she dresses well and prefers to keep herself looking presentable whenever possible.

Lin has dark olive eyes, thin lips, and a clear complexion. Black blunt bangs cover half of her forehead, her entire hair cut short other than the very back where a long braid is formed stopping just at her waist in a ‘queue’ style typical of Chinese men (without the shaved head, of course). Due to the nature of her active lifestyle, she has chosen to commonly wear a black Tai Chi outfit. The coat and pants fit loosely around her slim form, providing enough room for heavy physical activity and plenty of comfort for casual affairs. It is cool, comfortable, and light weight to fulfill all her needs, making no complaint necessary. She wears a pair of black, laceless shoes with strong rubber soles that fit snugly to her feet, as though she was Cinderella to a glass slipper.

Faction - Unbound Hearts

Weaponry – Lin is a practitioner of many weapons, but identifies the most with polearm weaponry.

Bo Staff – Taken from her homeland and handcrafted into a weapon she deemed ‘elegant yet deadly’, Lin’s Bo Staff is without formal name, but nonetheless handled with care. Sometime after her creation she had learned to establish a ‘bond’ with her weapon, learning to call to it from a far off location without the need to carry it around. This weapon is not by formal standards ‘legendary’, but to her it represents the little girl in her that wanted to become a hero for her people, the little girl in her that still does. A natural brown color, it is both lightweight yet surprisingly durable. Lin believes it to be because she took good care of it, but it is due to her making it stronger by wielding it. This weapon is not unbreakable and can be broken with enough force.

Powers/Abilities/Talents -

Balance/Acrobatic – Lin is not the physically strongest, or the fastest, or the smartest, but what she lacks in those fields she makes up for in her ability to remain perfectly centered. Whether she’s on one foot with the other raised towards the sky or on one hand with the other pouring a cup of tea, her ability to remain on her toes (and hands if she chooses) is remarkable. Concentration is a large part of this and must be maintained; this means that if her concentration is disrupted she can start to lose the advantage of her foot work and acrobatic ability. Her skills are so profound that she can even run or walk across flexible surfaces such as water with ease. The ability to flip, leap, and perform feats of incredible physical skill are not beyond her. She is a flexible woman, who can bend and reach as needed. Light as a feather, she can remain upright on the smallest of objects, even atop the weapon of someone else without adding additional weight.

Polearm / Sword Proficiency – Lin has taken very well to both polearms and swords for combat, capable of picking one up and performing great feats of skill with them (as long as they aren’t heavy). This does include the ability to throw them at large targets with precision, but only when a battle calls for something more than the weapon itself. She has a preference towards sweeping strikes and is not willing to parry unless absolutely necessary, knowing that her strength is not her greatest gift, but her ability to imbalance her foes and maintain her own.

Hand-To-Hand Combat – Not her preferred method of fighting but suspiciously proficient with her hands, Lin’s ability to defend herself unarmed is impressive. Often starting combat with her palms open, she is intent on disarming foes, taking advantage of the momentum they use, and using it against them. Favoring self-defense over aggression, it is in her nature to be mindful of her opponent’s use of their most favorable attributes and devise the best plan to either achieve victory, or escape the situation intact. She attacks with blows meant to throw her opponent off balance and upset them by rendering efforts wasted, making strong use of her body as a whole to defeat her opponent. She is able to catch lighter weaponry between her hands and feet.

Healing Rate – By no means a healer or a durable fighter, Lin is passively able to recover from wounds at a rate slightly faster than the average human at no cost. The rate at which she heals is increased through plenty of rest and sleep, but the exact cause of this is, to her, still unknown. This does not include broken bones or critically injured internal organs, only when injuries are tended to as best as possible. An arm in a cast will recover faster once tended to, a cut will clot faster and the skin will seal itself swifter. The key is resting and not making use of the area injured while her body works to restore her. Sickness may also be included.

Inner Flame – Lin is attuned to the power of fire and because of it is highly capable of drawing flame from within herself for use. The power can escape her pores and even her own mouth, essentially being a living match. Because of her gift she is immune to intense heat and open flames, able to place her hand in a brazier and feel no effects. With her talents in the field of balance, she had learned how to control her power enough to wield it safely in the presence of those nearby, not risking the chance of harming those close to her because she got carried away. At the peak of an emotional outbreak that can be both focused or angry, flames from sources that are not particularly controlled by others may be drawn to her or snuffed out, causing a lit room to become dim with nothing but her will. The power to both create fire from nothing but deep within herself as well as control it from uncontrolled sources has caused her to be known among her friends and family as a ‘fire bender’. Lastly, her attunement to the element helps her ‘feel’ out heat sources that would be much more difficult for others to locate have they no abilities in this field.

Exorcism Mode – Currently Unavailable.

And now I play the waiting game...~
Rika’s instincts hadn’t told her much more than to be prepared, but this stranger with that strange gleam in her eyes had done well to show respect. Rika may not be of renown yet, but that was because she was so good it was hard to hear of her. Certain criminal-centered families would have use of her, but she is so expensive to acquire that often organizations believe they might lose more than gain from that transaction. A life for thousands upon thousands, easily millions if the target was high-profile enough, wasn’t the easiest trade to make and was better left to those who had very serious grudges. Shizuka was quite the stranger in this situation and didn’t know how to play anything cool, but Rika would chalk that up to inexperience. The expression on her face didn’t change for several seconds, ultimately becoming one representing a cool appreciation. Strange as this woman might have been, she had done well in her tone and getting right to the point.

“You have a ‘master’, huh? You only get a servant if you’re rich or powerful …and I like an employer with both those qualities.” Rika relished in someone who could get enough on her to even gather her name, and knowing what she is capable of only meant they did damn good research enough to know who they were getting. That showed they were looking for the absolute best, and approaching her confirmed what she already knew; she was the absolute best in her field. Focused entirely on the messenger, Rika’s train of thought when it came to what wealth this ‘master’ could possess was immediately broken by Shizuka’s desire to be noticed. Grabbing her wrist mid-wave, the thief would guide it downward and shake her head in disapproval with her actions. Before Rika could educate her on how to handle a situation like this, something loud and obnoxious had occurred throughout the city with a message that, to Rika, was not nearly as convincing to her as it was these commoners. Shizuka, being the simpleton she was, was quick to spout off how it ‘wasn’t us’ in front of a woman she obviously didn’t know, and who’s allegiance they had yet to determine. Quickly putting her left hand over Shizuka’s mouth, Rika glared at her in a fashion that was quite the change from her joy with her prior to this very moment.

“Are you kidding me? You don’t know this woman, why in the hell would you-- …” Scoffing, Rika removed her hand and shook her head, muttering “Idiot…” under her breath. Waving a hand in dismissal to whatever excuse Shizuka might give for her foolishness, the thief’s option of working with the rebels may not go through if idiocy like that is a constant. “Cat’s out of the bag now, but forget about her, she’s some nobody with no real talent. You already caught my attention, so your boss obviously taught you how to address people of my caliber. Lead the way.” Rika encouraged this messenger to begin guiding her to her master, and hopefully the thief’s employer. The robot-like woman had turned and proceeded to do what was asked of her, but Rika gave Shizuka one last passing stare as she moved along.

“By the way, that guy making that announcement? Full of shit, and it’s not just because we both know better …it’s because I know a liar when I hear one. Overreacting doesn’t change anything, so start growing up. War doesn’t forgive innocence, it takes it away, and things are bound to get worse.” Giving her a mocking bow as she walked backwards, Rika spun back around closely behind Pepper and kept her hands behind her neck, allowing Shizuka to get back to whatever her job was meant to be.

Elsewhere in a cozy part of Hollow Bastion, the woman that sat alone kept her eyes shut and visualized a better place than this. Her old home was clean with a strong economy, a populace that was happy and thrilled to be alive, and felt secured because there were people that watched out for them. Police were public figures of justice but once upon a time she had lead something much greater, much more important to humanity, than the men in blue could ever become. This poverty was disgusting, but not nearly as disgusting as the lies that were broadcast across Hollow Bastion. The fools and drones who believed anyone with a microphone would take to those words like vultures to an animal carcass, and there was no concern of what would become of them.

“More coffee, ma’m?”

Opening her eyes, the woman looked to a brown-haired young man who appeared clean and handsome in a uniform she could easily relate to the café. Once empty, in the blink of an eye this cozy little corner of Hollow Bastion had found new life. Men and women young an old coming together, children eating ice cream and enjoying a stroll hand-in-hand with their mothers and fathers. This was an ideal environment, an environment she was quite familiar with back at her own place of origin. She was no longer alone here, the good souls of Hollow Bastion had joined her, adding to the appearance of a highly refurbished and ideal neighborhood in the city. Only the surrounding blocks held this happiness, while all outside it were just ‘business’ as usual. The location was perfect, far north and very distant from the rebel safehouse and the warehouse that had recently been destroyed.

“Yes, thank you.” The woman nodded and raised her empty cup, allowing the employee of this gorgeous café to pour her a perfect cup of coffee once more before walking off and attending to other people. A writer working on a novel, a couple having an early morning glass of coffee similar to that woman. Things were pretty much perfect here, minus the fact the announcement of the Empire’s dog still reaching her ears. Amused at the efforts they made to cover this up, she had almost laughed out loud to the point it would have been a contagion to all other persons in the area.

“So that’s your opening move? This will be an easier victory than I ever expected.” the woman muttered to herself, smirking slightly before enjoying another sip of well-prepared coffee.

The Empire would need to do better than that…

GENKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ....WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU~

<3
Please leave the woman alone, she's isolated for a reason. Thaaaaaanks~
Well, phase one was easily completed minus an imbecile who was likely to harass her thoroughly until she cried out ‘sexual harassment’ at the top of her lungs. The communication device was pocketed rather than placed within her jacket, unable to find usage for it at this time. Getting in with those unbound rebels was easy enough, now came time to figure out how to maximize her profits with this entire war. No mistake could be made when suspecting that the Empire had vastly much more wealth in the form of that conveniently compact currency known as ‘munny’, not to mention the silver bars she had managed to nab before the portal fiasco with the warehouse. With that data in her possession, figuring out how to make the best use of it was her next objective. Contact with an Imperial representative could be risky, but as long as she chose the right one to make contact to she could squeeze out a few bonuses. All there was now was a question of who to play with more…

“Nowhere else to be, hm?” Rika muttered under her breath, hearing the footsteps of Shizuka approach. Putting on a smile as she turned to look at the girl skipping to her side, the thief figured helping strengthen her credibility with the rebels would be easier if she kept Shizuka around for a little while longer. The girl’s attention moved to the sky, which definitely beat the poor sight of the city once light started to hit it. It was filthier than she had initially expected upon her first arrival, but there was nothing more to be expected. Empire’s that took over by force rarely cared for the well-being of a cities architecture and appearance. All that money had to be going somewhere, it may as well be her that found a better use for it than sitting in some vault. Humoring Shizuka as she reflected on her past, Rika listened to her recollection of the world as she used to know it, starting with something she referred to as a ‘keyblade’. Her knowledge of that thing and what exactly it was happened to be limited, but she knew enough to know it was a rare weapon that was considered by some to be ‘legendary’. Curious as to her stake in all this, Shizuka had asked one question Rika couldn’t answer.

“I could make up some heartfelt story about how the Empire killed my family or something, but truth is …I’m only trying to get by in this world. Working with your ragtag pals is a kindness I didn’t even know I had in me, and as long as I get paid it might stay that way.” Rika patted Shizuka on the shoulder firmly. “Don’t take it personal, it’s just business and I need to look out for myself. You can’t count on anyone but yourself, and if you’re not careful someone in your group is going to turn on you …like that whip guy, he looks like he’d sell you guys out for enough of a reward. Trust me, I know a possible snitch when I see one.” Shizuka was a nice enough girl, perhaps she’d take Rika’s advice, especially of the traitorous portion. That Trisean was no good.

“So, when are you going to stop looking at me back there, huh?” Rika looked over her shoulder, eyes meeting the strangest woman with an odd haircut. Green-haired with a focused stare, yet appearing to be unarmed, Rika had heard the steps of this woman approaching for the past thirty seconds but there had yet to be a gap attempted to be closed. There wasn’t an attempt to sneak up on her either, and although Shizuka was also present beside her the eyes of that woman had never left Rika’s back. Stopping in her tracks, Rika turned around entirely to meet this new woman face-to-face. She had been hovering around far too long to just be ‘heading in the same direction’, and while she didn’t own this street, she owned anyone who looked at her for too long. “Is there a problem?”

~-~

Lightly stirring a cup of coffee in hand, a raven-haired woman in an isolated part of Hollow Bastion had sat outside of a café that would not ‘open’ for another several minutes. She was very much alone, but was content by that fact; being alone would make her job easier, especially considering what she was prepared to do for the sake of this world. Dressed in a dark sailor fuku that certainly looked out of place on a grown woman who appeared in her late twenties, there was a regal look to her even if all she was doing was sitting patiently.

“Pepper, introduce yourself…” she would mutter under her breath. Attention towards Rika was a given, but it was the one beside her that Aeva was curious about. The resemblance to a certain little girl was uncanny, and while she promised that she wouldn’t get too deeply involved in this world’s populace, it was Shizuka that was making her consider breaking it. Her son, more sympathetic to the cause of a fighting rebel force, would likely share her consideration. “And be discreet about this.” Taking a long sip of her drink, she pulled her head back and exhaled, content.

All around her, shadows had begun to gather…
