I want to join this roleplay so badly, but I fear i'd be an incompetent Captain.
If I were accepted into that role, what exactly would I be needing to do? I'm not as familiar with ship based RP's due to how few of them actually exist

Well, because this particular rp will be focused more on the dramatic aspect of things and the relations between the characters, you won't need to know much of the technical stuff involved in the job of a ship captain (not even I personally know very much about that, if we're being honest.) I'll mainly try to set up situations where characters will be interacting, so you'll be able to focus more on that, but other than that, you can just make periodic mention of how maybe the weather is affecting sailing conditions, or make a brief mention of an interaction that your character had with a crew member earlier that day. Basically, this is a long-winded way of saying that I'm sure whatever you do will be just fine.
Character Guidelines

Hey all! Thank you so much for your interest! You don't need to put everything here into your character description, as long as you feel like your sheet covers everything we need to know about your character. :)

Well like. Everything is sort of optional but still.

Character sheet stuff isn't up yet, but feel free to get to work anyways. :)
If at first you don't succeed...

The year is 1922, a full ten years since the sinking of the mighty Titanic. It was a tragedy that swept across the world, weighing down the hearts of even the unaffiliated. One individual, however, was affected in a way that differed from the common reaction provoked by the disaster; a young American engineer, determined to replicate the majesty of the ship's first and final journey - minus the 1,500 dead.

Now, a decade later, the grand ship Oedipus waits in the New York Harbor, ready to embark on a journey across the Atlantic. The only question that remains is this: Will the voyage be a shining success, or is history doomed to repeat itself?

Roles

For this roleplay, there will be a few set roles. You are welcome to be as creative with your role as you would like, and I will gladly take suggestions for additional roles.

THE ENGINEER @BigRick
The designer of the great Oedipus, he/she could not be more proud of the grandiose vessel that he/she has brought to life from the sketches in his/her mind. He/She is so proud, in fact, that certain details may just be overlooked...

THE CAPTAIN @Keira Adams
A young sea captain fresh out of the academy, he/she is ready and willing to prove him/herself as an able navigator of the seas.

THE JOURNALIST @Orange Juice
A bit of a snoop, this reporter for New York's Wallstreet Journal is ready to do whatever it takes to uncover the story behind construction of the Oedipus. The only downside? He/She will be riding third class.

THE ARISTOCRAT @Just Rida
Not one to pass up a chance to engage in such a novel form of entertainment, the sheer oddity of the rumors surrounding the designer's motives has attracted the attention of this high-standing member of society.

THE CONDUCTOR @Starboy
What would a great ship be without its band? This veteran of the music industry may look young, but he/she has the wisdom and skill of one twice his/her age. Strict and domineering, he/she is determined to give an outstanding performance, no matter the cost.

THE WIDOW/WIDOWER @kou
Still recovering from the recent death of his/her spouse, this second class passenger is simply looking to forget. Little does he/she know, there will be more than enough to occupy his/her mind on this particular journey.

THE STAFF MEMBER @LitCabbit
Still but a teenager, he/she is ecstatic to have been lucky enough to find work on a ship as majestic as Oedipus. Unfortunately, he/she may not be as fortunate as he/she believes.

Additional Information

As mentioned before, the time period for this roleplay will be the early 1920s. I am diverging a bit from the ways of the times in allowing for any role, even the ones which women would not technically have been able to fill, to be played by either men or women. Additionally, I'm not sure if this goes without saying, but the ship and its passengers are to be totally fictional.

For organizational purposes and to keep things flowing, the plot will go day by day detailing the events of the four days from departure until the sinking of the ship. That isn't to say that a day in real time will correspond to a day in the rp. A day in the rp may take several days in real time to complete, because I know people have lives outside of rp and other rps to attend to, as well.

Roles can be reserved. In fact, this is encouraged. The traits of the mentioned characters are not set in stone, and I would be willing to talk over any changes or plot ideas (including events and additional characters) with anyone who may have them. In addition, I know that the plot has not been explained all too extensively here, so if those playing roles such as the Captain or Engineer have questions on how to proceed, feel free to get in contact. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Is staff member still up? If so I'd get to work

Absolutely! Thank you for your interest! :)

Mate I been waiting for you all day. (Nice to have you tho.) <3

Gotcha! Waiting on one more person and then it'll be up.
Interested! I'd like to play the journalist if that's alright?

Of course! Happy to have you on board! :) I'll get the real thing up once we get a couple more people.
Bruh, you know I'm in.
