Alessia Rezalla-Rhidian was far from home. She had never travelled much beyond the Kalesian capital city, and now she was not only travelling to new lands, she was conquering them. It seemed that her life was destined to only get stranger now that she was an evoker. Evoker. Even now, two years after the fact, applying that term to herself seemed strange. She had never wanted power. Not like this anyway - she had been quite content serving the Empress, may she live forever, through the pursuit and application of knowledge, a long standing tradition carried out with vigor by at least a third of the Noble population in the Empire, and many common citizens too. Of course she had had some degree of influence and political power, just like all Kalesian nobles, but now her power and influence was very much literal.

And she was about to wield that power, not for the first time ever, but for the first time with malicious intent. She stood now in the streets of the city of Amaryth, the city marked to become the latest addition to the Empire. She had been told that the battle had gone extremely well so far, that it was relatively bloodless. That may have been true, but she was still not entirely prepared for seeing the many corpses of the soldiers, from both sides, that had died for this city. Her stomach turned in revulsion at the death and she had to fight her instinct to flee to safety. After all, this area was safe, it had been among the first secured by the Imperial troops. She would not do dishonour to her name by fleeing, or even displaying her feelings for it all publicly. Between her training as a noble and the reassuring thought that, ultimately, the people of this city would be much better off under the benevolent rule of the Empress, she was able to put aside the worst of her feelings and focus. She needed to be ready. The moment the signal was given, she would have to bring down the Dread Omen on the heart of this city.

~|~

In a rare event, Katarína Kovac, processus of the Imperial Army, smiled. The city was not theirs yet, but soon it would be. Imperial forces now had control over every sector of the Outer city. As she stood there, mauler cavalry were rapidly finishing the process of encircling the lake. They would be spread a bit thin, but the troops marching at their rear would fill those holes within a day or two. It did not matter in the long run whether a few escaped, so long as the majority did not. Once their capital falls, which she knows well it will, the nation as a whole will be demoralized. Much the same way people everywhere in the capital soon will be. All in all, a good day.

She turned to the latest notes concerning civilian distribution, assimilating them quickly into her city overview. Troops were rapidly emptying the region around the inner city of civilians, getting them to a safe distance. She had personally felt the power of Dread omen, and it was not pleasant. Keeping civilians relatively safe from that would go a long way towards bringing them into the embrace of the Empire.

Seeing another note, she decided it was time to initiate the first stage of the play. Turning to a messenger, she started speaking. “Get Commander Jahoda to send a few squads to start beating on the Inner city’s western gate. Let them go at it for a while.” The messenger nodded, then ran off to deliver the command. It did not matter much whether they actually managed to damage those gates. As with so many other operations, that was only a distraction. While she would prefer not to damage the walls, she was fully prepared to unleash a crew of tunnelers to burn straight through the hills and into the fortress itself. The tunnel running beneath a part of the outer city was particularly useful for that.

~| An hour or so later |~

The processus imagined she could hear the beat of the ram against the gates of the inner city, though she knew it was far too far away to be heard here. Especially with the pitched battle between imperial archers and the defenders on the inner walls. She had ordered a few ladder squads to begin, but she had no illusions about any of them succeeding in actually taking any significant part of the walls. The royal architects of Othea were renowned for their skill at making hard-to-take fortifications. Katarína had not seen fit to put any of the imperial evokers into the action yet. In fact, she had ordered the shadoweaver to cease his illusion any moment now. Combined with the seeming success of the sudden return of sunlight, the fact that a few soldiers were slain would at first boost their morale. The drop when the Dread rose would be so much greater. It was unfortunate that loyal Kalesian soldiers had to die, but it was also necessary. Shortly after the rise of Dread Omen, the imperial evokers would begin their work. Without warning, as it was meant to be, the sunlight suddenly flared through as the cloak of darkness tore apart. Thankfully the Amarythian civilians were already out of the way. The escape from the dread ought to make integrating them into the Empire somewhat easier.

“Alessia Rezalla-Rhidian. It is time.” She did not say anything more. It was unnecessary. The Evoker knew her job. Katarína Kovac did not look forward to the Dread Omen, but at least she was prepared for it.

“Lady Alessia” Was Alessia’s annoyed reply. Just because Kovac was a processus did not give her the right to ignore formality, especially since they were hardly in a pitched battle right now. Alessia had been listening in to the orders given, and in the short time she had been near this processus she had already decided she didn’t like the women. She was too cold, and seemed to ignore the fact that the Kalesian troops under her command were actual people too. Her tactics might be effective, but they called for good Kalesian men and women to die needlessly in endless diversions. It was one thing to die heroically for ones Empress, but entirely another to throw lives away in hopeless battles just to scare the enemy. She knew better than to question the processus though. It was not her place.

She placed her hand on the small unassuming book that held so much power - an unnecessary gesture, but one a reassuring one, and with a thought began to summon the Dread Omen. She had learned of its effects, as she always did, first from the book. One day she had been able to comprehend the page that the book had opened on, for no reason apparent to her, and upon reading it found the knowledge within burned into her mind. A few moments of focus on the area she wished to affect and the spell came into being. The sun appeared to morph into a crimson wound in the sky, bathing everything in a light that somehow drained all the colour from the world and awakened an almost primal dread in the pit of the stomach.

Or at least thats how everyone had described it to her. She was never affected by the Dread Omen, for what reason, she knew not, only that that seemed to be one of the rules of this relics functioning. In such an unfamiliar land, the effect would spill over outside the inner city a moderate amount, which was why the civilians had been moved. The Kalesian infantry would of course be just as affected as the defenders in the city, but they were both trained to fight under the effect and expecting it to occur. By mutual recommendation, Alessia and the various processes’ of the army had ensured that while the army had been preparing, they undergo a number of drills and small scale training battles while under the effect of Dread Omen, in order to harden them and ensure Alessia’s most easily applicable combative spell was still an actual advantage for the imperial forces.

Of course for Alessia, maintaining this spell was no more effort than studying from three separate tomes or scrolls at once, and so she made herself comfortable and opened her book to continue studying its enigmatic pages. The processus at her side would need no words to know it was in effect after all.

Mere moments after she issued the order, Katarína began to feel the Dread. Light grew dim, the sun turned red and everything began to feel hopeless. Only because she was prepared did she resist it at all. From her small vantage point, she could see how Kalesian officers were doing their best to boost morale flagging among those who were too close to the Inner city.

The rise of the Dread Omen was the signal to all the Imperial evokers currently near the front lines. A signal to begin their work. The effects were seemingly without pattern. She had heard in a lecture that there was a pattern to the relics, but not really understood what that pattern was. One evoker approached her. The woman’s channeled her power upon a small, angled table, and an image of the battle appeared. It wasn’t detailed. Or rather, there were too many details even for her to catch. The image simply wasn’t large enough to convey them properly.

She recognized a few positions, like those of major archer companies and the gates. colorful fields appeared before a few of them, arrows passing through those fields changing. In one place, into bolts of fire, in another into what might have been shiny metal. “Close up on the western gate, Evoker.” The image blurred as the evoker changed its focus. As ordered initially, the few remaining members of the ramming squad had already thrown their ram to the side and were running back towards the front lines in a zigzag pattern, avoiding the rain of arrows and worse. Right then, as if on cue, the front lines broke apart, letting what looked not unlike a massive, metal-plated, upside-down boat through. What lay beneath it was impossible to see, but the two kalbeasts pushing it were readily visible. The processus knew that one of the rarest evokers in the entire empire walked beneath it. Not even a boulder thrown from the top of the fortress walls could crack the roof protecting him. Halfway to the gates, the procession halted, and the kalbeasts were turned about, leaving the hull behind.

Just then, a massive boulder flew from the fortress walls, as if on cue. It struck the side of the hull, but bounced off, landing on a fleeing Kalesian soldier. She could not see whether the boulder had dented the hull. It did not matter, for the Evoker had begun his work. It was barely imperceptible at first. Faint ripples in the ground, moving for the gate, steadily increasing in strength. Soon enough, the gates would topple. It was only a matter of time.
I actually hadn't thought of the affect on animals. Ellri is right though, I go for less at the beginning rather than more. I would say that neither Dread Omen nor Fortunes Favour would affect any animals except perhaps particularly bright ones like monkeys. Arcane Dome would stop animals like it does everything else, but generally I think her powers will only affect humans, and not because of her desire, just because the Relic works that way.
I need to do some reading of IC first, but an opening post will hopefully be arriving from me tomorrow...
Excellent, thank you.

I should also note that (as it says in the relic description) Alessia herself never suffers any of the affects of her spells, be they good or bad.
Yes. The affects are totally indiscriminate, and the control of the area is not particularly easy to manipulate, which means use in an actual battle would see at the very least the front lines of the Kalesian troops suffering the effects as well, more likely a good portion, or even the entirety of, the Kalesian force.
And theres my sheet. I've done away with portals to other planes as it was always just a means to an end rather than something I particularly wanted. In case its unclear, the abilities Alessia has will affect very large areas of land and everyone in said area....
Now without further ado:

Name: Alessia Rezalla-Rhidian

Age: 27

Gender: Female

Relic Description: Physically, the Relic is an unassuming book. It is neither large nor thick, and is roughly but solidly bound in an unknown leather of brown colouration. Its pages are of an unknown velum, and also appear to be cut and bound only roughly. No means of marking the pages has yet been successful for a more than a few moments, and most of the time they appear totally blank. When Alessia opens it, however, the pages are beautifully decorated in an unknown script, with unusual diagrams and sigils every few pages. No page is ever the same when the book is opened to it. Even flicking to the next page and immediately returning will cause the page to change, though only Alessia knows this.

The abilities granted by the relic are far less direct than most, having no affect on her at all. Rather, the relic allows Alessia to call specific ‘spells’ for lack of a better term, into being over a large area. The spells she can currently wield are few, each having been first deciphered from a page of the book over a significant length of time studying it.
-Dread Omen: Alessia can dishearten and demoralise entire populaces or armies wielding this effect. Those affected will have the color drain from the world and the sky turn red, as well as feeling an ever nagging sense of dread. The effect is not crippling, and generally fairly uniform whether the affected are strong or weak of will.
-Fortune’s Favor: Essentially the opposite of Dread Omen, this spell will bolster morale and lift the spirits of those affected. Colors will be more vivid for those affected and they will feel more capable and empowered than usual, though still able to fear or doubt should events prove particularly unpleasant.
-Arcane Dome: A perfect hemisphere of shimmering light forms centered on Alessia with a radius varying between one hundred to five hundred meters. No object can pass through the dome in either direction. The walls of the dome appear to made of the same energy that also appears in the sky above her spells and casts similar light. This is a particularly intensive spell for Alessia and every object, dependant on its kinetic energy, that tries to penetrate the dome from either side will tax her further.

Every spell also causes ghostly aurora-like ripples of light in the sky above the area she has targeted. All of these effects are indiscriminate, with no-one in the area escaping them, with the exception of Alessia, who will never be affected by anything she has summoned. She can never summon more than one spell at any given time, though if she is not entirely exhausted when one effect is dispelled she is able to immediately conjure a new one. The duration that she can maintain any one ability varies depending on the severity of the effect.
In order to summon a spell she need only focus on the desired effect for a moment or two. Maintaining a spell requires a constant low level focus from Alessia, though she has trained herself to be able to maintain the two lesser spells she is currently capable of even while sleeping, though the sleep will not be nearly as restful as normal if she does this. If she maintains a spell for too long she will be mentally drained and blackout, at which point the spell will immediately fade.

Skills: Alessia is a well learned scholar by the reckoning of most lands, with a particular skill in architectural matters. She is somewhat versed in the command of an army, but not to the level of a Kalesian Processus, and she has no experience at all in this area. Her technical knowledge has given her an uncanny ability to spot structural weak points and direct Kalesian siege weapons to the swift and efficient destruction of fortifications in the few military exercises she has participated in. Aside from this, she is also well versed in courtly matters, and while not exactly an expert politician, can usually get what she wants with both the Kalesian court of nobles and scholars of the Imperial university (at times two entities being one and the same). She is totally incapable of any form of personal combat, being almost as much a danger to herself with a weapon as she is the person on the other end.

Background: Alessia Rezalla-Rhidian was born into the nobility of the Kalesian Empire, to the young newly titled Lord Tion Rhidian and the latest scion of the long standing Rezalla house - Lady Valerie Rezalla-Dahmsion. As Valerie’s first and only daughter she is the heir to the Rezalla name, and as such her mother took an immediate and significant interest in preparing her for the titling trials that all noble children undergo. Her childhood was filled with all manner of lessons, from the academic studies to the appropriate way for a noblewoman to comport herself in public. Her free time was almost non-existent, but with the funds available to the Rezalla house the best tutors were acquired to ensure she both learned and enjoyed learning. The direction her interests took was, however, somewhat unexpected by the women of house Rezalla - she became interested very early on in construction and the means by which buildings could be made so impressive as they were in the capital of the Empire. At age eight she was already demonstrating instinctual knowledge of basic principles such as the load bearing arch. While her mother was not entirely pleased with this direction, she nevertheless encouraged it, as she could grudgingly see the potential for an easy titling trial in the practical application and the discipline it gave her daughter.

While Alessia fulfilled a number of the title requirements from the very beginning of the trial, at age twelve, she still did not achieve sufficient accomplishments of note to gain her title by the earliest possible age of fourteen. She gained her title at the age of sixteen, still a very respectable achievement, becoming Lady Alessia and gaining a residence of her own - one she had designed as part of her trial. She was afforded several years of peace from outside pressure to study both her chosen subject and a number of others before any more heavy expectations were placed upon her. During this time she became a frequent visitor to the Imperial Library, studying all manner of scrolls and books to expand her knowledge, never having lost the desire to learn that was imparted to her at a young age. Shortly after her eighteenth birthday, her mother and grandmother both began to put pressure on her to think about an heir to the Rezalla name, for she was showing little interest in the perpetuation of her line. Not bound by any law or even custom to do so however, she ignored them, always providing the excuse of ‘not being ready’ for whichever reason the month dictated.

By her twenty-fifth year, she had become one of the Empires foremost experts on non relic based studies of the ancient objects that dotted the world. She was a respected noble in her own right, easily having earned her name as a Rezalla in the eyes of, ironically, all but her mother - the now only other surviving member of the family. She was just beginning to consider the courtship of several of the noblemen she preferred the company of when disaster - or perhaps fortune, struck. She was in the Imperial Library when one of the towering shelves nearby her destabilised and fell - pinning a nearby patron under a significant pile of books, only avoiding crushing him entirely because the shelf leant against a nearby wall. Alessia rushed to assist the hapless fellow, along with several others nearby, in the task of un-burying him from books before the shelf collapsed on him (and the books). Amongst this chaotic piling, one small and unassuming book caught Alessia’s attention, and rather than simply stacking it nearby she secured it in the folds of her dress to read later - ever the curious one even in the midst of saving a mans life.
To this day no-one knows why either the book was there or the shelf it was on collapsed.

Had she realised the nature of this one small book she might’ve left it where it was. Several hours later when she opened it, she found it to be empty, yet bearing signs that it had held writing once. It held her curiosity far more than anything of the sort should have, and she only realised how long she had been trying to make out the writing in it when the sun began to go down and her servants became insistent on reminding her of a formal event she was late for. When she returned later that night, she went straight back to the book. Only this time it contained unknown writing and unusual patterns and sigils within. At that moment a brief but stunning light show reminiscent of those seen in the far north and south of the world flickered in and out of existence in the sky far above the city. Also at this moment, Alessia blacked out, fortunately already lying on her bed.

The next day, upon learning of what happened in the sky, Alessia quickly put the pieces together and realised that the book was a Relic. And that she had become an Evoker. Taking it in hand, she found the nearest guard patrol and turned herself in as an evoker. After being escorted to the proper authorities, she told her story and was quick to renew her oath to serve the Empire, this time as an evoker. She was allowed to retain her position in large part because of her cooperation and honesty, becoming one of a very rare and select group of people in the world - an evoker that also held real political influence and respect.

The past two years have seen Alessia exploring her relics abilities and adapting to the idea of being an evoker - something which, to her mother's great chagrin, has once again turned her attention entirely away from the continuation of the line. The people of the city have begun to get used to the occasional occurrence of the sky being torn asunder in light, though few of them know the effects of the display. With the Empires recent preparation for and commencing of war, Alessia has suddenly found herself being considered a ‘military asset’ by some. She has been subjected to a whirlwind course in military tactics and strategy, cramming several years worth of learning into six months, with varying degrees of success, and enlisted the Imperial army as evoker support. Though not among those that would be on the front lines, she has recently found herself traveling far further than ever before, bound for the front lines in the long awaited expansion of the mighty Kalesian Empire.

Appearance: Alessia in noble attire (image pending). Since leaving the Kalesian capital city she has taken to wearing far more practical travel clothes, and occasionally even the military uniform she is technically entitled to, though she refuses to wear armour as it disrupts her focus. Neither does she carry any weapons.

Motivation: Sincere belief in the just cause of the Kalesian Empire and the idea that they bring enlightenment to the lands they conquer. She is also motivated by curiosity and a near insatiable hunger for knowledge, a trait that seems to have been growing ever more prominent since becoming an evoker.
Depending on how rapidly you help reviewing my sheet Ellri, I might be able to help out with that if no-one else beats me to it. ;)

On that note, I've got all bar the Relic section done. Since the relic is likely to be the only thing that Guilty may take exception to (and I have no idea on that one) I'm not going to submit an early sheet, but expect it very soon.
I am still collabing with Rtron on my post.

Speaking of which.... Hows that reply coming along Rtron?
News is up!

Jaelan is on the move, so prepare your mass accelerators and disruptor torpedoes everyone, its time to go convoy raiding.

As it says in the news, this is the last chance for anyone who knows the planets location to ambush Jaelan. If no-one posts about preparing a post in this OOC, then it'll be over to those waiting on the Relay to nab it.

Not much happening on the finance area... No-one is buying anything or doing anything grand it seems.
Jaelan nervously boarded the massive mining transport on which his precious artifact was now loaded. He had the artifact for now, but he was increasingly worried that he would be unable to make it through the Rosetta Nebula Relay, much less all the way to Council space. The artifact was his! No one else deserved to be in its presence!

The ship he had the artifact secured on was a behemoth - a Turian made heavy duty mining barge. It was the only ship available to Jaelan that had sufficient cargo space to move the artifact, though extensive modification had had to be made before the artifact could be loaded. The ship was heavily shielded and rugged, designed to operate for extended periods in dense asteroid fields for extended periods. It was never fast to begin with, but once his engineers had finished altering the cargo hold to support the artifact, they had drawn sixty percent of the power the reactor usually supplied to the engines, which made the craft exceedingly slow, although it would take almost total destruction of the ship before the artifact would be in any danger. It was almost unarmed, possessing only a very modest GARDIAN system. Jaelan truly dreaded the idea of trying to run a blockade in it.

The only consolation available to Jaelan was that it wasn’t the only ship he would have. A second barge of identical appearance would by flying alongside him, carrying his lone squadron of six fighters - cheap Volus knock-offs of the the real thing, but capable nonetheless. Two Kowloon class freighters would also be with them, though they were running on skeleton crews and their use would be limited to blocking shots or, at their most desperate, kamikaze rams.

It was with great trepidation that this small flotilla departed the safety of the mining complex on Parnassus several hours later. It would take a few days to reach the Mass Relay, and during that time, Jaelan had nothing to do but wait.
