Everyone has heard a teacher or parent or some other authority figure mention that everyone has a unique talent. Typical self-esteem boosting pep talk, right? After all, you are... well, were an average individual. Maybe you had some talent in art or sports or something, but nothing that would bring national attention or anything like that. But, about two years ago, right at the end of junior year, something… changed. That’s the only way you can explain it. All of a sudden you were able to do things that shouldn’t be possible, things that defy the laws of physics as we know them. At first, you were thrilled. Who wouldn’t love to have a superpower of some kind? But then the doubt set in. What would your friends and family think if they knew that you were some kind of comic book character? Worse still, what would happen if someone important found it? Surely the government wouldn’t let the potential of a superpowered army go to waste, at least not if what you had heard and/or read about before was to be believed. No, it needed to be a secret.

So, you finished out your senior year. There were probably a couple of close calls, but nothing you weren’t able to dismiss with a couple of well-spoken lies. Of course, it sucked lying to your friends and family, but the secret needed to be kept secret. It was far too dangerous to throw things like that out into the public. Regardless, you had done all of the usual things during your senior year: completing graduation requirements, taking exams, applying to colleges, etc. And by the time graduation rolled around, you had been accepted into Stonewald University, one of your top choices. Once you were away from the place where you had probably spent most of your life, you figured that it would be pretty smooth sailing. New friends could be made that would be used to eccentricities that keeping a secret caused oneself to have, or you could avoid people altogether and keep the secret safe that way. Either way, it is, looking pretty good so far. Who knows, maybe you’ll even be able to get a job or join a sport. It’s a new life, so you might as well make the best of the four years before you have to do it again, right?

As you may be able to tell, this roleplay will focus on interactions between characters all trying to keep their powers a secret for as long as possible rather than stopping an intergalactic threat or some such. :3 All of our characters will have some sort of superpower and coincidentally end up attending the same university after high school, though individuals may or may not have attended the same high school. Regardless, no one but your character is aware of their abilities at the beginning of the roleplay.

Reserved Powers:
I want people to have different powers, so, while this is just for gaining interest, feel free to reserve a power if you know it's what you want for your character. Also, it would really help me out if you could specify how many characters you plan on using if you know that little piece of info. Thanks!

Dimensional Storage (Lucek)
Tactile Telekinesis (TaliPaendrag)

Though no one is certain why or how some individuals appeared to spontaneously develop superpowers more than two decades ago, the world is certainly reeling with all of the unforeseen consequences of such a development. Considering the number of individuals who expressed an ability to do something incredible and formerly thought to be impossible was so low, there was very little done to handle the issue by any government. It certainly didn’t help matters that the human race had recently come out of a war involving several major powers, though short of what would be considered World War III, and were thus in the process of rebuilding.

Of course, the frequency, and the intensity to a smaller degree, only increased as time went on, resulting in more heroes and villains. In the eyes of most, however, both were criminals, the villains for the obvious reasons and the heroes for their vigilante justice. As such, pressure on governments across the world has been mounting to create some way of controlling those threats to society, some advocating registration or isolation. Other groups have stepped up to urge governments to reward heroes for the good that they do and possibly ally themselves with the heroes.

In the meantime, the way heroes operate has gradually changed from being a lone wolf system where each hero operated individually to being more cooperative efforts with other heroes. Heroes eventually realized that they were better off working together rather than apart, forming small teams of two or three. There is also a rumor that a group of superheroes have banded together, much like a guild from the middle ages, though there is no real evidence for such an alliance. Unfortunately, some villains have also been showing a tendency to work in small groups as well in order to counter the efforts of the heroes to thwart their wicked plans.

As if figuring out what to do about individuals with superpowers wasn’t occupying the governments of the world enough, humanity made its first contact with extraterrestrial beings just two years ago when several pieces of equipment detected radio waves that could be deciphered into a pattern of sounds that indicated language. A transmission was sent back by the U.N. once everyone agreed upon what it would say, and the planet was visited shortly afterwards by diplomats. These aliens were similar to humans in structure, but with reptilian scales, tongues, noses, and eyes. Fortunately, most people seemed fairly okay with their presence, and peaceful relations between the two groups were established. Since then, other groups of aliens have come and gone. With the extension of hospitality by the humans, all contact has so far been peaceful, though there are some who worry about a group arriving that may not be so friendly.

Despite all that’s gone on recently, the major issue that virtually every country is facing is what to do about metahumans, or those with superpowers. Aliens and recovering from the war are important, there’s no doubt about that. But in the scheme of people having bouts that causes millions of dollars’ worth of property damage a year, they really don’t seem to be all that important.

Your character is a hero, at least for the time being, that has been invited to join the rumored guild of superheroes. Whether they used to work for a team before or not, they suddenly found an envelope addressed to them holding a handwritten letter of invitation and a plane ticket to a small island in the Pacific Ocean. Whatever your character’s reaction to the invitation was, they eventually decided to accept it and fly out to the island where they met the man behind it all and got settled into their own room and everything. Some will have been there a little longer than others, but that’s okay. Of course, it’s not all a life of luxury. The man in charge, Dr. Raul, has been working on establishing branches in major cities to help deal with local crimes, but until then, he regularly sends out the heroes in the guild to missions whenever the situation calls for it.

Reserved Powers:
Though this is just for gathering interest, I will reserve your characters' powers if you wish me to do so, as I would prefer it if everyone had different powers. :D Also, it would be nice to know how many characters you would like to create if you already have that down. ;)

Fair enough then. I'll go ahead and introduce Saelion and then get everyone moving along. :D Does that sound like a plan to everyone?
Okay, time for the results. :3 Number four was the clear winner, with number two coming in second place. So, both of those are definitely going to get made into actual roleplays. :D However, that doesn't mean that the others won't get made eventually, especially if one of the former two die. Considering the fact that I really want to do them all, pm me if you would be interested in doing number 1 or number 3. If there's enough support for it, I'll go ahead and make one of them as well, though I will definitely need a co-GM for those.

Sorry if it seems I gauged interest for nothing, but I really got more attached to the ideas as time went on and my desire to create them grew because of that.

As for number four and number two; I will definitely have the actual int check for number four up tonight, and hopefully number two as well.
@Rin: That's why I was surprised that number four was so popular. :P I figured that the others would have been snatched up first. I'm glad to hear that you have ideas already.

@All: Thanks for all the interest! :D I'm still going to wait until about 7 EST to create anything more solid, however. In the meantime, feel free to pm me any ideas you have for plot or anything like that if you want to. :3
Thanks for your interest guys! :D I'm hoping that more people show up to express their interest as well, so I'm going to wait for a while before settling on which ones to expand upon. :3
Hello everyone! :3 Lately, I've been craving a good roleplay about, you guessed it, individuals with superpowers. So, because I hate hopping into a roleplay that's already underway, I figured that I would put up some ideas that I had and see if anyone would be interested in joining.

1. Academy for Psychics - This idea is your typical superhero academy, with the minor detail that every power has to be psionic in nature. While there might be some kind of villain, I would be aiming for it to be mostly slice-of-life.

2. Regular School - This is an idea that I just had a few days, but it involves a group of students with superpowers going to the same college. None of them will know that each other has superpowers and they all want to keep it secret for fear of what could happen to them if they're found out. Again, this one will be mostly slice-of-life with the potential for a bad guy to come up in the plot later on.

3. Superpower Camp - I ran this one on the old site before it crashed, and I haven't had time to get it back up. The premise is pretty simple, with it being like X-men but with a summer camp, less superheroics, and more training of powers. Due to the fact that I was running it before, I do have some ideas for events like a talent show and other activities for campers to do.

4. Standard group of Superheroes - This one is also pretty straightforward. It's more of the Justice League, Avengers, or X-men kind of roleplay that I've seen a lot of lately. Obviously, this one will focus more on plot and villains than the others.

I know that they don't seem all that well-defined, but I figured that the basics were all that was needed for gauging interest, not to mention that I'm a huge fan of getting the players' input on the details. Unfortunately, I probably won't have the time to run more than two at the most, so whichever two get the highest support will get made into the real deal. Even then, I think I might actually require the assistance of a co-GM. :P Anywho, I've gone on for long enough, so I'll check back later. Thanks!
As the pixie explained that the first order of business was to get out of the room and away from the Boggart’s Hole, Claire nodded. Personally, she preferred skulking in her own room as the pixie put it, but she understood that now wasn’t the time to hide in there or anywhere near where Adin said she would be. She was a little surprised when she felt him walking on her arm up to her elbow, but she nodded when he asked about ink, even if the reason for saying the rhyme was hard to grasp. “I have a little box for writing out recipes and stuff. It’s over there,” she replied, using the arm that the pixie wasn’t on to point out the little cherry box on the bed.

She was a little curious as to what he meant by the matriarch’s naughty list, but didn’t bother vocalizing her question. Actually, one of the few parts of his speech that she really understood was the thing about the elf claws. Or, she thought she did at least. He was certainly a strange little guy. Regardless, she obeyed his instruction to pack, grabbing the little pack that held the padded box where her alchemical mixtures were stored and putting it on her shoulder. Considering Adin had told her the meet was going to be over by the end of the day, she hadn’t packed extra clothes or anything else. Unfortunately, that meant that most of her stuff was going to be abandoned back at the Junkyard, but there was nothing to be done about it.

“I’m ready to go when you are, sir,” Claire said once she had everything in order. It looked like the pixie was still writing, thought what it was exactly she couldn’t tell. Used to waiting from the numerous times where Adin would forget that he had called her before him for something and go off on some random tangent, Claire stood a few feet from the door patiently, musing over where exactly the pixie could be taking her. Maybe to a safe house of some kind where he and the friends he had mentioned earlier stayed? It certainly didn’t seem that the pixie was an upstanding citizen, though Claire technically wasn’t either, so she didn’t expect it to be a regular old house. It wasn’t like it really mattered though. The thoughts just kept her mind off the craziness of her current situation and the sting of the betrayal.
It is going good, thanks!
Hopping off one of the wagons of the caravan to join her friends, Runa cast glances at the locals and the town itself, calmly picking out details and storing them away for later. Her fingers itched to snatch some of the purses she saw hanging from the belts of the townsfolk, but she knew that stealing anything would ruin their opportunities in the town, and that knowledge helped her keep her fingers from where they shouldn't be. "Finding a place to sleep for the night would be nice," Runa said, adjusting her bag on her shoulder again. "It would also let us store our gear while we explore and try to find a job or something to do." With all that was in the town, there had to be someone who could use their skills to get a job of some kind done. And Thorgili was right. They were going to need money, and a lot of it, for their journeys.
