I'm not saying it a disadvantage in character, it's a disadvantage because it's less cool.
Also, it's fun to have the reveal of a character's NP that you didn't know about. Cao Cao's, for example, could be rather amusing to happen out of nowhere and surprise you.

If you're joining as a canon character, you deserve the disadvantage.
EDIT: Also, I think you're being kind of silly towards Rodey. His character is manageably balanced and in no way problematic for the state of the roleplay.
Gawain is already one of if not the most powerful of Sabers currently confirmed, canon-wise.

He wouldn't be able to steal that, since GoB's ability is only effective when it's a NP. He might snag a few of his treasures though, if they were out when the battle ended.
For the record, you can avoid ever double posting by just never trying to send the same post multiple times.

He has one, I just didn't list it because I was rushing to finish it before somebody posted a Saber clone. Added it (and reduced it, since the previous rank was lame).
I'm a huge fan of this kind of roleplay, so I'll definitely be doing some of those things, if not at least one.
