Ganymede Madrigal - Hyperdrive

Smoke slowly wafted out of Ganni's gas mask, giving out the impression that he was constantly smoking a joint. In some ways, that was true; he used a mix of mind enhancing substances in order to be able to better focus when making portals that bridged different points in the fabric of space. Creating tunnels through reality itself was easier said than done. The calculations and the visualization required in order to accurately make these doorways instead of teleporting into the middle of a wall or the inside of an engine with a dangerous power source were quite taxing to the normal mind. One need not get to the amount of energy needed to portal over more than a hundred kilometers from point A to point B to know that it's dangerous without proper preparation.

So, Hyperdrive, as the MRD had come to call the mutant that quite literally temporarily shatters the fabric of spacetime in order to make his portals, sat on top of a nearby building, watching the arms deal go on without so much as an argument over the amount of money that had been agreed for the exchange. Even so, he remained at edge, waiting for something to go wrong.

And of course, something did.

“HANDS UP FREAKS! THIS IS THE MUTANT RESPONSE DIVISION AND YOU ARE ALL UNDER ARREST!” A loud voice boomed over a megaphone, and Milo groaned.

"Punyeta..." Ganni cursed as he inched a bit closer to the building's edge to see that the hovercars, along with some other vehicles were quickly surrounding the group that had just finished the arms deal. He was just out of sight, thankfully, as he well hidden behind a section of wall that lined the edge of the flat rooftop. By the looks of it, things weren't great for the mutants. Venom himself had come to deal with the problem, and if the nature of the Ultimates was of any indication, more of them may come here to prove that they're better than their peers. After all, they were a bunch of pretentious pricks, glorified celebrities that spent more time in press conferences and photo ops than in fighting actual crime.

It's not their fault that Jean Grey went crazy. Welp, anyway...

For a moment, it seemed like reality itself buckled, then a crack opened up beside one of the remaining hovercars. Bolts of energy whizzed in from the other side as Ganni opened fire, poking holes into the vehicle's sides and then destroying its crucial hover systems, sending it careening to the ground like its counterpart from earlier. The remaining hovercar turned its attention to this new mutant interloper, only for the portal to immediately close like a zipper in thin air.

The real problem, though, was Venom, whom the other mutants on the ground were undoubtedly engaged with as of now. Ganni would try to pick off the surrounding MRD agents and vehicles and open up a weak spot through which they may be able to escape. Hopefully, at least.

"I've got a tip alert system in place for situations like this, folks'll be sending me all sorts of info on black sedans now." There were definite perks to being as public and popular as Picture Perfect currently was, it'd seem. "But I'll be honest, it could be a goose chase with my network. Crocheron's on the other side of Queens, by Saint Mary's. I swear if these goons grabbed some sick kid..."

Each of the three people around him suddenly received Airdrop-equivalent contact information for Picture Perfect.

"Just in case we get split, I've sent you guys my contact info."

"We don't need to split, guys." Konstantin held out his hand, smirking towards the exasperated Picture Perfect at the prospect of having to cross all the way to the other side of Queens. He knew just how tiring it could be to try to weave through all the pedestrians, traffic, and desolate alleys that would undoubtedly be in the way. And he just had the trick. Konstantin knew a lot of places in the city well enough to open portals to them, especially the ones that were open to the public. Crocheron Park was one of these places, but that wouldn't be enough to simply bring them right in front of the black sedan that they were looking for.

"My brother Mariano uses Crocheron Park to walk his dog, and I've been there a few times to give my cats a look at the sun and grass," Konstantin explained. "I could bring us there through a portal, but bear in mind that you might come out a little dizzy if you're not used to crossing dimensions."

Wanderer's eyes glowed an iridescent purple as he began channeling the magic. "So? Taxi, hitch a ride with lightning lady, or portal?"
Narvia & Finbarr

"Welp, there goes our plans for celebration." Finbarr shook his head as the conversation between the Moonstrike agent and the core crew members ended. He turned towards Narvia, tilting a little bit just to adjust towards eye-level contact. He was tired from having to run around the galaxy in a quest for vengeance, tired from the war itself, even though it had long ended. The events today and the information that had been henceforth revealed indicated to him that they were getting deeper and deeper into a conspiracy, one that goes further than inflicting retribution towards their erstwhile oppressors and master's.

"I'll go with the team that's going to search for that Star Marine girl," Finbarr muttered, looking towards Narvia. "In case things go south, which they always do, there will be a dire need for an exit. You?"

"A-Aww, I wanted to celebrate too!" Narvia sighed deeply as the conversation between the Moonstrike agent and the core crew members ended. She turned towards Finbarr since he adjusted slightly to be precisely at eye level. She felt conflicted by the chance of saving her family, Lana, Freya, and Ashley, to be with her new family in the Star Marines. All she wants is normalcy and to be part of something more than what she feels like everyone is heading deeper into by the reasons of madmen and their ordained plans. The events and the information means it's getting even more dangerous than usual, and it'll break her heart if any of her new family dies or any of her original family dies too.

Narvia listened to Finbarr's mutterings and him asking about what she'd do. "I am going to save yours and everyone's families, including mine. Because I-I want to be reunited with my mother and older sisters..." Narvia said with resolve in her voice like no other. The major problem, though, was that they would be, Draken'vina, the homeworld of her godfather Nikolas R. Zahrin. "Only problem is my family will be on my godfather's homeworld of Draken'vina, which is a core world in the Ascendancy."

"Well I come from one of the mining settlements on Titan, one of the moons of Jupiter in the Solar System," Finbarr replied. "It's even closer to the core of the Ascendancy than any of you lot. I wager my family is still there since they have never been able to afford getting off that rock. Either way, they may all be screwed."

Finbarr sighed. How different would have life been if he hadn't been turned into a living weapon? Would they still be dirt poor miners, or would he have somehow gotten them out of the bottom of the social ladder?

"I guess you're coming with me, then?" Finbarr shrugged. "Well, since we're an item, that would come at no surprise. Hihi."

Narvia had many emotions inside of her when Finbarr talked about where his family is located. In this case, Lana, Freya, and Ashley being located on Draken’vina is much better than the alternative, which would be Mars or otherwise. ”F-Finbarr, I am going to save your family. I will try hard to reunite everyone’s families!” Narvia exclaimed with a lot of enthusiasm. It would be better to have her boyfriend’s family safe with hers. ”Only because I believe it to be the case, I guess my family not being on Mars is much better than they would be. Only because my biological father would have fought much harder on Mars than anywhere else, Conner Leo Hadley.”

Narvia will be happy when everyone is happy to be with their families no matter their location in the Ascendancy’s Grasp. She was slightly worried about how her family was doing now, being on Draken’vina of all places after living on Mars for their whole lives. It scared her to meet her family in a happy reunion, but it won’t be that happy since her father isn’t there with them, though he scared her deeply.

Narvia loved Finbarr so much and giggled at him for being such a gentleman. ”Y-Yeah, we should allow everyone else to figure out what they are doing in these missions. I-I’m happy that we are together!” Narvia exclaimed loudly. She giggled and decided to walk out of the conference room since it would be better to deal with other things than dealing with more stress like she’d been having with what the Moonstrike agent told them.

“Good,” Finbarr nodded at his beloved, and wrapped an arm around her shoulder as they two of them bounded out of the room, knowing well that they will soon be put into another dangerous mission. “I hope we can fix all of this mess soon enough so that my family can get the hell out of the methane infused air of Titan. Everyday, it smelled like fart there. Just, absolutely horrible. Oh, and your planet has dragons on it too, right…?”

They disappeared into the corridor, though the curious Doruva’Il’Kays Aoshen would stare into their direction for quite a while before turning away. He understood from then on that those two were a thing…

Narvia giggled when Finbarr wrapped his arm around her shoulder as they left the conference room. She looked toward Finbarr when he started talking about where he lived, Titan's methane-infused air, and slightly giggled at what he said. It sounded an awful place to live if it wasn't that particular about the quality of life. When Finbarr asked about Draken'vina, about has dragons on it. "Nikolas told me about the dragons on Draken'vina like a history lesson. A specific ancient dragon is living on Draken'vina called Dekriem, the Soul Destroyer. Better not to mess with him, but that's what Nikolas told me as such not to do. Historical records on Draken'vina on how the Dekriem helped unite the humans living there underneath my godfather's clan, the Za Clan." Narvia said with fascination about her godfather's world. She loved talking about things that made her imagination go wild, but she had never actually seen a dragon up close. However, how Nikolas described Dekriem was cool, but it did scare her slightly with how potent his breath attack was.

Narvia cutely put her arm around Finbarr since she loved him. "I love you, Finbarr." Narvia said with a smile on her face.

"I love you too, darling," Finbarr replied with a slight chuckle. He kissed the top of her head, laughing as he did so. "So, we should get ready for the bloody thing. That armor isn't going to put itself on, after all. Yeah?"

Narvia cutely giggled with Finbarr for chuckling after saying the exact words she said to him. She blushed when he kissed the top of her head and happily smiled in response. "Yes, we should get ready for these missions, dear. It would not be good not to wear the armor in the first place. I enjoy wearing the armor that was specifically made for me by the Dragon's Brigade." Narvia said. She hopes that Finbarr will stay alive through this troubled time that is coming soon. Narvia wants to figure out the future with Finbarr together but these missions are quite scary. She is happy right now and will always look back on these happy moments over the alternatives.
Alfred Gunther/The Frostbite

Never One...

Without the Other

As soon as Kailai began to shove the barricade of riot shields and guards towards the hallway with her usual relish of consumption and destruction, Frostbite swooped on from the overhanging lampshades, screeching in an animalistic manner. A gust of cold wind heralded its approach, wings stretched out on a full spread and a spherical winter storm of collecting around its icy mouth. The Cryophoenix's incoming strike evoked images of dive bombers, its screeching seemingly mimicking the demoralizing whistle of a Stuka dive bomber. That probably didn't do much by itself, as nothing was more terrifying than a giant, tank sized alien monstrosity plowing through one's coworkers as if they were chicken nuggets in a KFC deal bucket.

Still, the screech first came like thunder before the actual lightning, then the freezing began. Frostbite attacked the guards to the left and right of Kailani, blasting them at regular intervals with flashfreeze breaths. One might have thought that there was a dragon spitting out fire, except that it was a phoenix spitting out ice and freezing wind. Several guards died instantly, every bit of warmth of body in their bodies sucked away by the vengeful winter spirit before it peeled away to avoid hitting a wall or some other obstacle. A few were frozen so thoroughly, they broke and shattered into a dozen or so pieces whenever someone exerted a bit of force on them.

Here, though, there was no shortage of force. Frostbite had heard the fire woman being a little exasperated, and so moved accordingly. Even then, it didn't truly like that they are wasting quite the amount of lives in this escape... but such is the price of vengeance, isn't it?

Never One...

Without the Other

One of them throwing tear gas at the small group of inmates. Getting close enough to start attacking the group, most of them were focusing on Rueyn, Kailani, Frostbite, and Hemlock, as they posed a greater threat than the others.

The tear gas did almost nothing to Frostbite. In this transformed state, he was, by all intents and purposes, a non-biological creature composed of supernatural ice and strange, otherworldly magic that coursed through its body like blood would in an organic being. It only slightly obscured the cryophoenix's witch-sight, but other than that, it was more or less just smoke. A bit annoying, sure, but nothing that could significantly dent his progress at facilitating the breakout. The guards had, at this time, neglected to bring flamethrowers over, which would have been the greatest threat to his icebound form, and the window to stop him from transforming to begin with had long passed.

Surely, a pair of glowing scarlet flashed from behind the rising plumes of tear gas, heralding the flight of the Frostbite in a flurry of cold wind. Everyone there, save perhaps for Kailani and Ameliya, would feel the temperature drop by at least three degrees, just as the Cryophoenix spread its wings and shot out a barrage of sharp ice feathers, each one as a potent as a dagger. It did little to the riot shields that the guards were using to protect themselves, but as they raised their shields to defend from the hail of spikes, Frostbite dropped down, his claws seeking out one of the lesser known inmates.

"What was his name again?" Frostbite asked the human mind that had been nestled deep into its own consciousness. "Ah... no, I can't remember."

"The one wanted for eating his own wife and children?" Alfred answered, not sure either.

"Eh, who cares, he's not a main character.""

Frostbite grabbed that inmate off the ground, and threw him bodily as a transhuman wrecking ball towards the guards that had attempted to bar their escape. He'd rather stay safe and intact instead of risking himself.

Konstantin squinted at the assembled heroes, taking note of who they were as well as their respective body languages. It seemed that they were having an impromptu gathering in front of this pizzeria, perhaps because superheroes really had a thing for pizza, or someone had called up a meeting for one reason or another. That latter option seemed to be rather unlikely though, as none of them seemed particularly interested in sticking around. Hi-Volt looked a bit awkwardly at him, straight up telling him that she's just gonna go. Or something to that effect.

"Oh, okay. That's fine," Konstantin said to her, tipping his hat to the other hero, if he could really be called one as well. "We all have a duty to fulfill, patrols to do. I for one, however, need to hear some gossip over a slice of pizza and a cup of tea."

He turned towards Jackpot, looking at him from head to toe. Konstantin took note of the fact that both Jackpot and Picture Perfect were also social media influencers on top of being superheroes… he found that a bit funny, honestly.

There was another man that seemed to come out of nowhere, asking if he was interrupting anything. “Not really, unless you’re a superhero too. Then this really turning out to be a good day for me.”

"Yes," Konstantin replied. "That I am… you're Jackpot, aren't you?"

He held out his hand, his cerulean eyes looking right into the other hero's soul. "I'm Wanderer. I make portals like the local wizard, Doctor Strange, though we're quite different. Anyway, we got any bad guy dens to hit, or are we merely relaxing as of now?"

Never One...

Without the Other

With the ball and one cuff gone, Kailani forced herself to merely bite the other cuff, carefully and regretfully avoiding skin. She patted Körbl’s leg before crawling further down the table, to Alfred. With him it was even easier - harder to control - as she grabbed his leg to bring up to her mouth.

She licked his ankle briefly.

The primordial Frostbite cringed at the sight and sensation of the alien woman licking the ankle of its host, almost bursting into a transformation right then and there at the perceived offense. "How barbaric. Even now she wants to eat your feet, and then everything else in this godsforsaken place. Ew."

Alfred quietly grumbled at the ancient spirit, rolling his eyes. The Frostbite's complaints were certainly wasn't helping the situation he was having down there. "Frosty, don't make it weirder than it already is. It's not like she's a vore enthusiast. Just constantly hungry with that insatiable alien... um, hunger. She can't help it, okay?"

"Damn thing ate its own siblings..."

"It's nature, get over it. You're literally part of nature!"

His thoughts would soon be interrupted though, as the distraction from Ameliya and Iris erupted into all new explosive heights, while Kailani revealed her true form. A gigantic elephant... dragon thing. Whatever she was, she is a xeno, a stranger to this world. An alien with alien thought patterns...

Huge claws clung to the balcony, the whole structure shuddering from the weight - and as some turned to begin firing uselessly on the alien, as screams and shouted commands and even excited cheers were beginning to break out, Kailani bit down on the balcony and shook her head like a dog to a bone.

And now, things were getting even spicier. They were supposed to escape later tonight, but the cat, no, the alien was out of the bag, and at this rate, there was simply no way they could delay the great escape. It was now or never.

Frostbite spoke, entreating for a long yearned transformation.
"Shall we?"

"I suppose..."

Alfred was engulfed in a torrent of cold wind, defying all mortal laws as the temperature within the cafeteria dropped by several degrees. His eyes glowed with an azure shimmer, and for a few moments, it was as if he disappeared inside the brewing winterstorm...

Then it emerged. A pair of icy wings sprung out of the spot where Alfred Gunther had been sitting, then an avian head with a single glowing horn forged from deathly frost. The mist quickly dissipated, revealing a phoenix of ice with a pair of glowing, blue eyes. It roared with a chilling shriek, a harbinger of the winter itself arising from its mortal to avenge ancient wrongs.

For now, though, it breathed forth a conical blast of ice towards the remnants of the balcony that still clung upon the side of the wall, blocking off access to the cafeteria from above.

It looked around. The guard that had previously given Alfred his spicy noodles was aiming at Kailani with her pistol, visibly shuddering with total fear as the alien creature started devouring her comrades. This was one life that the Frostbite was keen to spare from this ensuing chaos, and so it flew towards the guard, landing in front of her with wings blocking any peering eyes from the increasingly riotous cafeteria.

"Get out of here," the phoenix said in a voice that sounded like a chorus of twenty. "Your life isn't worth minimum wage. Please?"

Marie paused for a moment, then turned and fled through the nearby sidedoor... which Frostbite immediately blasted with frost to prevent anyone of the unruly prisoners from following her. For now, at least.

He may be an ancient. He may have eternal grudges, but the Frostbite used to be a defender of humanity, and there would still be a small spark of that old conviction in its cold, lightless heart.
