Don't worry about how many friends they have, George RR Martin doesn't care. It's always the loved ones that have the most impact. They change people and sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. However, leave it a surprise.
It's fine, don't worry. One tip that I've learnt is instead of straight up replying, backtrack, then reply, then move forward.
Like this:

Sam went to the shop. He bought some milk and eggs, more than he'd usually buy. Upon leaving, he saw Henry and left the door open for him, expressing a cheery hello.

Instead of just saying

Henry said hello back and stepped inside the shop, holding the door for his neighbour.

Do this:

Henry awoke that morning and noticed he was low on sugar. He always had tea in the morning. He got himself dressed and walked down the road to the local shop. He spotted Sam and greeted him with a hello. He held the door and waited for him to pass. It then occurred to him that the Smith family up the road had been burgled the night before and that he should warn Sam.

It's always easier to get more in that way and you'll get better doing it too.
From a distance, the School stood out simply as a private business, tall and grey against the background of one of the largest cities on the planet. However, it's huge size and dark windows stood it out. To those within one of the most powerful agencies on the globe, and in the universe, it was S.H.I.E.L.D's first major training facility. It was a school and a training ground. More and more mutants and gifted individuals were showing up now. It was evolution and even Director Fury saw that now was the perfect time for such individual's to appear. The battle between Mutants was over, they had peace. Yet Aliens and terrorists were on the rise. They'd already been attacked by a 'God' and it was only a matter of time before it happened again. The Earth had almost been destroyed more than once, but it wasn't going to happen again. They had to be ready this time. That was the simple reason the mutli-billionaire, Tony Stark had helped fund the school; and today was it's grand opening. It stood at forty-four floors above ground, even more below. Much like all other S.H.I.E.L.D buildings, it was attached to the mass underground world they had, filled with testing rooms and offices.

As the world continued around the building, a large and uncolored bus arrived outside. The sounds of regulated and controlled speaking shone into the ears of each member of the teaching staff on all the floors, although most were watching and preparing from one of the windows above. They stood at different sizes and different builds, different nationalities and varying skill sets. One women, a tall and slender women, watched the street below, peering down at each of the nearly fifty children and teenagers that stepped from the bus. She, like all the other teachers, moved away from the window and headed down into the lifts that would take them down a floor and have them ready inside the receive the students. Heels clicked against the ground, and cropped silver hair stood out against the blacks, red and brunettes of the faculty already. Had she not been young, one would assume age, however, her hair wasn't natural; of course it was dyed.

The staff all lined up on the left and right, each wearing dark suits, and styled in traditional S.H.I.E.L.D dress, navy blue and black. They smiled as their own Android, J.A.R.V.I.S, altered his suit and moved out to greet the first batch of students off the bus. To onlookers, it would be a simple school trip, but to anyone with a brain, they were all now S.H.I.E.L.D agents, learning and ready to give their lives for their planet and their galaxy, aswell as their country.

The bus wasn't noisy like regular public transport, nor was it comfortable. Inside the students seemed to be quiet and apprehensive, if not defensive and anxious. Each of them seemed to be waiting, unsure of what to expect or what to think. They were walking into the fray, even as almost adults, they were entering a world not all of them understood. It was head first from here on out and they all knew it. They all knew what was going to be expected off them and how much it would take before they'd have to learn things they'd previously found difficult. Nathan looked about him, a soppy head of blonde hair, less balanced and much less thirties than his father still seemed to hold. It suited him though, considering just how old he was. He saw students who seemed regular, students who seemed nervous, one boy that sat carefully toying with a levitating ball of metal in his hands and another girl that seemed to be concentrating harder than he'd seen anyone concentrate in his life. Whatever it was she was trying to do, it was making things any better. Nathan turned in his seat and looked back at the girl, whose eyes were clamped shut, unaware of the trickle of red coming down from her shoulder.

"You're bleeding-" He commented, pointing at her shoulder. The girl opened her eyes and looked down at her shoulder, pulling a smile and watching Nathan's face turn into a smile as the small opening sealed shut. It would come to his attention in months to come just how significant the opening and the wound would be to his new friend's health. "Nathan Rogers." He smiled, offering his hand, ignoring the silence on the bus. The girl looked up and smiled back, offering a hesitant hand at first. To her, she simply saw a muscular teenager, the type she imagined highschool girls to swoon over on Prom night.

"Shilo Foucault." She smilled, shaking his hand. There, they'd both made a friend. Things weren't going to be as difficult as they'd first thought. Both of them turned back to the front as the bus began to slow down in front of a large concrete, metal and glass building that shone against the sun, as if purposely trying to keep the prying eyes of regular civilians off the property. The bus slowed down and pulled to complete stop. It's doors clicked open and the selection were greeted with a sharp looking man, tall and very well kept. Nathan grabbed his bag from his feet, apologizing to a blonde girl he didn't even hear on the entire bus journey. She shot him a silent glare and waited until most of the bus had climbed off and were stood altogether, waiting to hear what the sharply dressed man wanted to say. Nathan and Shilo walked towards the front, standing side by side in front of the humongous tower they would call home for the next year, if it took them that long.

As the bus finally emptied, Rebecca watched quickly as one last student, aside from herself trudged off the bus. Whatever was his problem, she gathered it was something to do with not truly wishing to be here this day. She zipped up her jacket and silently side of the bus behind him. It had often been a game to see how quiet she could be around others, how sneaky and silent she could remain around some. She walked to his left for a while before walking ahead and standing at the back of the selection until they all began to move inside. She, like the rest, began to head inside the building, amused by it's size and potential build cost.
Especially since we have the potential for a villain ourselves. Hero-gone-Villain is my specialty.

Working on my intro now, I'm about a paragraph in although that's all description unfortunately. Anyway, off I go. I can write a lot so don't feel intimidated, I know a lot of people will do. Just be consistent, and write as you want to.
Haha, I know what you mean, considering each has an interesting ego-trip within them.
I do like that idea, and to be honest, I do like the idea of there being no threat at the start and for whatever reason, the world's in danger and they group up and attempt to save the planet because, Avengers.

How do you feel playing a character that's only based on a canon character?

That's totally fine. I just can't stick to a certain personality if its not one I 'click' with so to speak
