— Natala & Liza —

The feeling emanating from the Other went from displeasure to alarm in an instant. Natala raised her blade and turned to face the newly arrived danger. A rift beast, the first one that she had seen. The girl had no idea if the Other knew of them or had fought one before, not that it would be able to offer any sort of advice.

”...?” It was sudden. Too sudden. A moment of accomplished replaced by the horror of dread. At first, it was a loud sound - just to be replaced by eternal silence. What… just happened? Soon, Liza’s feeling of confusion was replaced with that of dread. A rift beast wasn’t anything new to her but that thing was clearly out of her league. At least under normal circumstances.

Pulling down her mask again and speaking words that Natala wasn’t capable of understanding, the blonde understood what happened to her ears. Surely, the monster wouldn’t give her enough time to make herself clear that the two of them should escape. If Odile were to die here, all the better. Alas, while not making any signs to fight, the young Artist waited nonetheless on what her beautiful Angel would do.

She shook her head, ears ringing after the noise that heralded the beast's arrival into their world. No matter, all she needed to fight was to see her enemy. Hopefully the damage would only be temporary though. Natala raised the blade to a high guard and waited on the first move. The slave had never fought anything so large before. If Odile recovered soon then the extra ally would do much to even things out.

It looked like...Natala wanted to fight? Just why? Annoyed, Liza drew both of her Runetech Guns. It was kinda inconvenient that Natala seemed to be a front-liner considering the Artist wanted the girl to stay well.

Odiles escape went unnoticed by either of them.

To call him a mere General was a grave insult and Tamas would have called the individual out in any other circumstance. The Field Marshal had commanded the massed armies of an entire nation. But this was not the time or place. The 'answer' he had gotten was unhelpful. Nobody else seemed to be getting much better. It was like talking to a politician.

Seeing that he had failed to sense any powder on any of these individuals, he instead opened his third eye to search for signs of sorcery. What he found was that the room was awash in it. Nearly everyone glowed in his sight. He closed it and looked around again.

Some individuals seemed to be getting rather upset about things. A younger Tamas might have been one to join them. For now he fished a powder charge out of his uniform pocket and held it in his closed fist.

"I'm inclined to agree."

It only took him a second to loop back and grab one of the fleeing attackers. A burst of acceleration and a sharp turning climb was enough to force the man to pass out while Blitz's suit kept him conscious.

He would have been confident in his ability to take one a single one of these murder robots, even one of the larger ones but four was too many. They weren't here to fight anyway and the information he could get from this one individual could make or break this whole case.

Once he was clear of the megafoundation that loomed over the Wirefort estate Blitz climbed sharply, zig zagging sharply to both throw off the aim of anything that might still be tracking him and to continue to keep his captive unconscious. He continued rising until the vehicles below were mere specs and not even the traffic below could be heard.

And then he waited for his unfortunate guest to wake up, holding him upside down by the foot.

Tavern

The ex-soldier ignored Maria for the moment. Along with the piestess, who seemed to not be much of a drinker. She listened to the merchants words. It sounded reasonable but there was always a way to sweeten the deal. Sophia held up a hand with two fingers extended.

"Add two silvers for every dead bandit. Consider it an investment in the future. When does your next shipment go out?"

Then she took the drink that the bartender placed in front of celeste and drained it in one long pull. They had work to do and she was in no mood to carry anyone anywhere.

"And that's enough for you."

His first thoughts were of his family. Not just Taniel but of Vlora and Olem. Those under his command that relied on him, and he on them. But really there was nothing that could be done at the moment. Wherever he was, he was far away and it was likely that most in the room were in the same situation. He couldn't recall even the last thing he did. There was a war, the Kez were invading and something had happened to his son.

Things were chaotic, with multiple people talking. So he sat quietly, rifle across his lap. At least he had his rifle and some powder charges. Tamas reached out with his senses but couldn't find any other powder in the room. Nobody in the room looked to have anything in common, nothing that he could see. As a last option he resorted to following the lead of the others in the room.

"Field Marshal Tams of the Adran Army. You've already explained who you are and where we are. But why are we here?"
— Natala, Odile & Liza —

Liza knew what her plan of action was. Considering this one would become her masterwork, one to trump everything she had ever done, the Artist was certain that she would take her time. For that, the next logical step was to be able to stick around this newcomer without bringing up any suspicion.

Friends, that was the term, Liza had to become friends with the nameless female stranger. ”I am Liza, a traveling Artist! How about I h-” In that moment the masked figure glimpsed something else. The sight of an Abomination. The girl couldn’t quite reason how this behemoth came so close before her attention shifted. ”Watch out!” She yelled at the other female.

Liza had to act quick If this beast was to damage her canvas she would never forgive herself. Then again, maybe she should have been thankful? After all it gave her some insane lavage in her beginning relationship with the tattooed stranger. Saving the damsel in distress and all that.

Not even time to pull out one of her guns; Liza instead aimed her open palm towards Odile before a quick magical blast in form of a spinning arrow left her palm. As the attack connected with the monstrosities chest the monster got knocked back as Liza made haste to get closer towards Natala - for protection sake.

Natala had her sword half drawn by the time she managed to look over her shoulder at the mess behind her. The sword thumped back into the sheath as she instead reached up grasp Lizas arm.

“That’s… That’s my friend.”

She sighed and covered her face with the other hand. This was an awkward way to start things.

It hurt. The blast had sent Odile to the ground without much resistance. Odile wheezed as tears welled up. Numerous ribs were cracked. His skin was cut by the blast. He lay on the ground, clutching his chest as the pain took hold of him. All that was on his mind was the pain; he couldn’t think, not in the slightest.

Her friend? This… beast? Was her Masterpiece’s friend? Fuck. A myriad of emotions were going through the Artist’s mind upon that discovery. Though, in the end Liza responded with a. “I am so sorry!” with her emotion distorted by her small speech device she broke loose of Natala’s grip to check on the on the ground lying body. ”C-Can you hear me? I can provide first aid!”

Natala walked over with less haste than might be expected. She turned Odile over onto his back. This was one of the worst wounds she’d seen him take yet. Not that she could blame this stranger, Natala had done the same thing. Sighing again, she stood back up.

“He’ll be fine, let’s get that fire started.”

She headed towards the nearest treeline and unsheathed her blade. Some might frown at such abuse but even such a fine sword was a tool and it chopped wood very well. Then there was a feeling, one of those that wasn’t her own. It’s wasn’t quite anger, but disappointment. Natalia paused looking around. It was indistinct, with no obvious trigger.

As the masked character approached and spoke about first aid, Odile quickly swung his arm at them. He didn’t want to be comforted by this person; they were the one who reeked the most and the one that wounded Odile. His intuition was right - this person could not be trusted.

Upon being laid upon the ground, Odile grew still. His panicked frenzy had dulled into a seething bath of injury. He looked down and saw his own wounds. It wasn’t the worst that he had experienced. Though, no amount of experience would ever make him used to the pain. Soon, odd sensations began to overtake the pain. It felt as if his skin was being stretched and pulled, his bones forced back into place, and everything felt tight. Even if it was working slowly, his regeneration could repair this much.

Just...what… was he? The monster’s ‘friend’ treated this like an everyday occurrence. ‘Strong regeneration’ was what Liza thought about that. Close to a vampire but nothing immortal. Good. If both of them were friends it meant Liza had to get along with those thing as well. Just a small annoyance.

Still, with the monster taken out for now the masked Artist followed Natala to help her get the firewood into place. ”So, what’s your name and what is bringing you ‘here’?”

Natala finished cutting off a limb and looked over at Liza.

“I’m not sure that I want to tell someone that won’t even show their face.”

“I… don’t like showing my face to people.” Liza simply responded - wasn’t being an Artist enough of an excuse?!

The former slave shook her head and lopped off another branch. “Well it can’t be any uglier than my friends. Until you lose the mask you can call me Chained, I suppose.”

Urgh. This was really something. Usually, Liza wouldn’t care, but considering this person was her Masterpiece, well… ”...I-I’ll m-make an exception for you but you have to promise me to not laugh!” The masked Artist simply responded. After all, she was ‘supposed’ to find herself rather ugly. Taking it a step further, she even stretched out her hand for an handshake. ”Promise?”

Natala wasn’t sure what to think. She could well sympathize with not wanting to show her face, but this person seemed to be more embarrassed. Maybe this ‘Artist’ was on the run, like her. She pursed her lips and then took the hand. “Sure”

”Alright.” Liza nodded before taking off her mask to give her soon-to-be a good, long, look. ”Well, satisfied?” With her voice distortion gone Liza’s natural voice could be heard as well. Her face made a clear uncomfortable expression.

She couldn’t see why Liza had insisted on hiding her face and had been so embarrassed about taking the mask off. Maybe it was simply to put out a tougher appearance. Certainly this rather childish face wouldn’t do much to deter anyone from bothering her. Natala smiled. “I’m Natala, nice to meet you.”

After End so casually jumped out of his arms Blitz continued upwards for a second, stopping well above the surrounding rooftops. High enough that even the heavier weapons would have trouble hitting him, let alone seeing him with the naked eye. He picked out targets with eye movements and mumbled commands to the operating system inside of his helmet. It wasn't as if the assailants were nice enough to use military grade IFF or anything like that.

"I'll get the other side I suppose. Let luck determine if we get anyone to talk to."

And he bolted off with a supersonic bang that rattled windows and woke anyone that hadn't already been by the gunfire. An inverted Immelman turn brought him down to street level where his path lined up up on the front side of the cars where there attackers not being shot at by End were taking cover. Blitz drew a handful of darts out with one hand, giving them enough of a nudge to barely deviate their path from his, enough to direct each into the engine blocks of each car before the smuggler pulled back up into the sky.

The steel projectiles struck through whatever the cars were armored with and utterly destroyed their engines. Lethal fragments caused by the impact were carried into whomever might have been taking cover on the other side.
Really had to think on this one, too many choices.

Ian waved to the helpful fellow in the back (Jonathan?).

"I guess they would be. Who'd be crazy enough to attack you guys here? They're with me. You calling the shots out here now?"

Further conversation was interrupted. Rudely. Before he could blast off in his usual dramatic manner End took hold of him. Blitz casually picked her up in a princess carry and kicked off in a more restrained manner, carrying a cloud of dust and debris from the street into the air with him.

"We still haven't spoken to the boss and these attackers might have something on this. It would be useful to take one alive."

For now, because it would be stupid to pursue that goal on his own, he focused on getting himself and his passenger out of the line of fire.
