Elza's other arm suffered the curse of the tree this time and she groaned, at least after this spar she would be totally ready for a nap. To her disappointment her shadows were destroyed as well, not only that but Meruin had returned fire with a similar spell. Elza resorted to using her home field advantage and simply dropped through the floor re-appearing from the floor above them and came hurtling downwards downwards spinning in a deadly ball of steel and shadow. She wasn't sure whether this would work or not and it was almost stupidly dangerous but that's what back up plans are for right?

Meruin stopped chanting and lifted a hand upwards, her palm facing Elza. A large magical circle completely blocked Elza from getting any closer to her. Suddenly, she pulled away and stepped behind the large array of magic circles she had created. "Rain of Fire," she intoned, finalising the spell. All at once, each and everyone of the magic circles spun viciously and launched a stream of fireballs in rapid succession, all of them pointed towards Elza.

Chains made of wood snaked from out of the magic circle beneath Meruin - it was not just any ordinary wood however, but wood summoned from a Sacred Tree. It's ability to seal off the strength and powers of whatever it caught increases whenever more wood was involved. They chased after Elza and attempted to bind her completely. Meruin kept her eyes on Elza and ignored the shadows on her feet. A barrier once again stopped her and it came with the same debilitating curse as earlier. The shadows that grabbed her were speared through and destroyed by Meruin's hair, which was now a bit lighter in color. 15 secs until the spell goes off

The magic barrier contracted and decreased its area, once again catching the shadows within its range. As of the moment, all of Meruin's barriers were focusing on a smaller area around her, effectively clumping into one space. Meruin opened one eye as she was chanting. A magic circle was glowing in her eyes as if it were branded there, and its exact copy appeared underneath Elza.

Meruin continued chanting. As expected, the barrier stopped the spears, however, Elza pulled them back and sent them flying towards Meruin en masse. Once more, they were caught 3 meters away from Meruin and locked in place, however, the scythe of Elza completely bypassed whatever barrier was responsible and raced towards the short mage. The scythe impacted against a shining rune placed in the air, causing the force to rebound towards Elza. The barrier also came with a curse that lowered stamina - the symbol of the curse was a tattoo of a withering tree that appeared on a random limb. 23 secs until the spell goes off

Meruin closed her eyes and began chanting. Trusting the natural defenses of the 4 barriers she had in place, she focused only on her next spell. About a hundred magic circles the size of dinner plates shimmered into existence behind her in a 'U' formation, all of them facing Elza. For Meruin, she would hit hard from the very start as a sign of respect. The lances of Elza stopped 3 meters away from Meruin, locked in place by a ring of light. 30 secs until spell goes off

Meruin blinked. That was a fast response. It wasn't as if she disapproved though. The short mage took a few steps back, muttering something under her breath as she did so. Her hair began floating up as if she was under water and her gaze pierced through Elza. Her emerald eyes glowed faintly. "Very well . . . let's begin." A large magic circle flared into life directly beneath Meruin.

So the number 2 fight will be boss fight hard? Ouch, I wonder what the number 1 will be like . . .
