LIST OF CHARACTERS:
  • Mark Taylor: Manager, Brickmore Apartments. (Written by TheNextNewGuy).
  • Mimi Bryce: Barista (Starbucks); tenant, Brickmore Apartments. (Written by AntoniaT.)
THE BASIC STORY:
  • A zombie apocalypse RP inspired by the Will Smith movie "I Am Legend".
  • In 2016, a genetically re-engineered measles virus -- originally created as a cure for cancer -- went into human testing.
  • Preliminary results were so spectacular that by 2017 the FDA had approved worldwide distribution of the "cure".
  • By 2018, though, the "cure" had begun mutating within the immunized. The result was a new, lethal, highly contagious virus that killed 90% of those who had been immunized. The remaining 10% became predatory, cannibalistic maniacs who attacked, killed, and devoured the unimmunized.
  • The new virus came to be called "Rabies 2.0", because sunshine causes them intense pain and, with long enough exposure, can kill them, the mutated survivors came to be called "Darkseekers".
  • The "Darkseeker Plague" appeared in multiple cities across the planet at approximately the same time and began spreading across the rest of the world quickly.
  • In early April 2018, the Darkseeker Plague reached Portland, Oregon, the center point of our story.

Joining the Role Play

Calendar of Events

Characters
THE BASICS:
  • Zombie apocalypse RP inspired by the Will Smith movie "I Am Legend".
  • Part dice driven, table top game.
  • Part descriptive, interactive role play.
  • PCs can interact solely with the host in 1x1s or with another player's PCs in 1x1s or group situations.
  • Players should be able to post 15+ action posts a week. (These are replies you can write in minutes, so I'm not asking much.)
  • DO NOT FEAR THE GROUP ROLE PLAY ELEMENT because of the seemingly unavoidable disappearance of players and their PCs. PCs of players who drop out will be written by, killed by, or given up for adoption by the host after an appropriate amount of absence by the missing player unless those writers "pre-authorize" an absence (in which case I or someone else will write those characters temporarily).

OOC: We decided not to write on this for a while and work on a table top like game I've been putting together. Feel free to remain subscribed if you have been following the story. We may come back to this.
Petey Howard

  • Local boy (15 years old).
  • Friendly; well liked.
  • Sort of a juvenile delinquent. No convictions or charges, but he's been caught doing wrong several times.
  • Works for Carl Robertson when he needs more money than his (now missing) parents gave him for allowance.

More to come

Carl Robertson

  • President, Broad Channel Neighborhood Association.
  • Owner, Jamaica Bay Yard & Garden.

PERSON INFORMATION:

  • 55 years of age.
  • Friendly; well liked.
  • Skirt chaser, but not a womanizer, per se.
  • Financially well off.
  • Owns a 20 foot fishing boat (like many on Broad Channel do).

More to come
I might be interested. I love the movie and book.

I am in the process of writing the first IC reply. Once it's up, other writers can post character profiles and join in.
Future list of characters (coming)

Carl Robertson -- President, Broad Channel Neighborhood Association

Peter "Petey" Howard -- Local boy (15 years old).
Greg looked at the semi-automatic in his hands. He said casually, more to himself than to Lana, "The book would tell me to take you in. Interrogate. Investigate. Negotiate." He looked up to Lana and smiled playfully. "You did after all stop a bank robbery. I think you'd get some years shaved off your inevitable burglary convictions."

He stood, then holstered his weapon. He looked down into Lana's face. Even in the low light of the needle room, with it's persistent and now roiling cloud of dust, her pale hazel eyes sparkled. Greg imagined that any man who looked into those inviting orbs would do anything to make the woman to whom they belonged his own. He would ... and his little bit of history with Lana included a flight from justice, and beating, a kidnapping, and -- if would now seem -- an imminent act of aiding and abetting a fugitive.

"Anything?" he asked. He could see in Lana's expression that she would probably take back that dangerous word if she could. He chuckled, trying to add a bit of relaxing levity. "I'll help you ... Lana." He saw the effect of reverting to her own given name. "I will help you, but ... you have to do something for me."

He offered her a hand and, when she took it and stood, he told her, "It's time you learned to use your powers for good, not evil." Greg laughed again, admitting, "That sounded kind of corny, but ... I think you know what I'm getting at. Lana ... you have these powers ... these super powers ... that make you faster ... stronger ... more powerful than normal people."

He cocked his head a bit to look into the shorter woman's eyes closer. Smiling, he asked, "Do you see what I'm getting at?"

(OOC: I don't like this pic. I looked for concept art but couldn't find anything I liked. You might want to not quote his appearance in your posts as I am still looking for a picture.)

Greg Roberts

  • Age: 35.
  • Height: 5'11"
  • Weight: 215#; solidly built.
  • Hair: Brunette, cut short.
  • Eyes: Deep blue.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND:

  • Unmarried. Childless. Currently dating but not seriously.
  • Shares a rather nice apartment in downtown with an FBI analyst with whom he sometimes dirties the sheets for stress relief.
  • Happy with his job, though he wishes he could accomplish more.
  • Often feels as though Capital City's Elites get away with a lot.

HISTORY:

1981: Born (Denver, Colorado).

  • Grew up on a ranch, where he learned hunting and a respect for law and order.
  • Parents were down-to-earth, stay-at-home types. His Father left Colorado only twice, to purchase stock animals in Wyoming; and his Mother left the county only once -- two years ago -- to be admitted to a cancer treatment institute in Chicago, where she died exactly 1 year later.
  • Three siblings, to be discussed later.

2001: Age 20

  • Two days after 9-11, Greg applied to join the FBI. He was accepted.
  • He performed well, and after graduation joined an anti-terrorism unit based in Afghanistan.

2005: Age 24

  • Transferred to post-invasion Iraq.
  • Became quickly disillusioned with the FBI's duties there.
  • Felt that the anti-terror campaign had mutated to become a tool of money and politics.
  • After he got into a fire fight with Private Security International personnel, killing four and injuring three before collapsing from his own gun shot wounds, he spent a year in one hospital after another, recuperating.

2008: Age 27:

  • He asked for and received a transfer to Major Crimes in Capital City.
  • He has been there ever since.
