Yes, for now. I have other endeavors to commit to before I can get back on this, especially with Over Time.
I'm in this roleplay on another site, and it's pretty cool. I won't bore you with the specifics lest you're interested. It's a tactic/strategic setup where about 1200 allied forces are trying to hold a mountain pass against insurmountable odds. Everyday we get attacked so we have to formulate a plan that ensures our survival. I was the commander during the first battle and I attempted to shower them with arrows until they draw in, then engage them with infantry while our cavalry circled around from our rear and attempted to hit them from the flanks. Unfortunately, the enemy threw in warhounds who practically disrupted my archers, but I was still able to flank them and win. The second battle one player brought some mages who managed to shield us from enemy arrows, but they brought a magical Urn to the battlefield that rendered the mages useless. The commander of that battle decided it best to charge forward with our only cavalry battalion, and he's in a pretty tight situation right now. My own forces (of mainly Viking-esque infantry) was late to the battlefield, but I am about to bolster our own ranks and break a hole in the enemy formation to allow our cavalry to escape. Thing is, the GM is cleverly finding ways to exploit each and every plan we have. He's one step ahead of us - which is how you win battles/wars. So my goal is to stay one step ahead of the GM. I'm seeking to formulate a plot in the IC like we usually do, but secretly have anotherplan going on that the GM doesn't know about, so when he tries to counteract our strategy he will be foiled. We can't win, just so you know. It's already been decided we'll lose, we just gotta see how long we'll last on the mountain pass.
I also think a RP is more successful when the characters and the RP itself really comes together as one. When a player feels the character has connected to the roleplay, and takes an interest in the potential consequences (whether good or bad), I think they're more likely to want to keep going. Of course, you'll need a good community. It's great to see player-characters actively engaged with other player-characters. And don't forgot a good GM - and that is something I am not.
To me, I read some of the stuff the more advanced/experienced RPers write and I quickly come to the realization that I am nowhere as descriptive as they are. My vocabulary is not nearly as wide as some of the other people I have met. One of my biggest problems is describe something; even if I try really hard, I can't think of any good sensory words that can relate to what I am trying to describe. Others have a fantastic vocabulary and their descriptions can relay the sights, smells, sounds, and overall atmosphere of the subject matter. Until I can start writing like those guys, I won't consider myself 'advanced'.
OOC is up: http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/76262-shadewoode-fantasy-mystery-party/ooc
~Shadewoode~
~Plot~
No one has ever entered Shadewoode and returned alive, except for one man: Gaven Mar. Forever disturbed by his experiences within the forest, Gaven refuses to speak of what happened. But sometimes your past has a way of catching up to you. Urged by his king, the scholar must once more enter the forest and discover the source of its corruption. But this time Gaven will be accompanied by a team of others: you. Whether you volunteered, were forced to come, or were hired to come, you and the rest of the team - along with Gaven - must traverse the mysterious forest and find its source of corruption... although some of you may have your own agendas of reasons for being here.
~Setting~
Shadewoode, from a distance, looksevil. The foliage is darker than what it should be, the trees are gnarled and ancient, the thick canopy overhead blocks the sunlight up above, rainclouds loom over it at all times, and it rains most every night. Strange beasts are rumored to live within, but whether or not they're true is unknown. The terrain can be very hilly, with a lot of streams, creeks, and rivers. There's an unnatural, dark magic that hangs over everything within. The deeper you go, the more dangerous it becomes. Shadewoode is ripe with rumors, legends, tales, and myths - many stories have been made up about its true nature, though none have been proven. People who venture to close experience alterations in behavior; those who venture within never return; you may feel beckoned by it if you stare for to long. It is evil and unnatural, and so far unexplainable.
~Characters~
Name: Age/Race/Gender: I will allow Humans, Elves, Halflings, Dwarves, combinations, and variations without question. Custom races should be run by me first, but I'm pretty lenient. Nothing to outlandish though (no giants, no centaurs, no fauns...) Occupation: What do you do? Are you a warrior? A bard? An archer? A ranger? Perhaps you're an assassin, a paladin, a mage, a scholar, etc. Armor/Clothing: Weapons: Other Items: Skills: Any physical or learned skills you may have. Expert swordsman, stealthy, agile, survivalist, tactician, etc. Just something to give me a good idea of what you're character is good at. Abilities: If your character knows magical abilities, this is the place for it. Elves are generally better at magic than others, while humans are next-best but it does take time. In this day and age, however, magic is rather scarce since most magic-users live alone (other than the Elves), and you won't really find any colleges or academies to train you. Most fear magic and forbid it. Why did you come to Shadewoode?: Was you forced to come here? Did you get hired? Are you here for another reason? Did someone you know go missing near the woods? Do you seek to uncover the mystery of the forest? Background: (If you put a ']' before you start typing it will make the text bold!) It's a party-based RP. The 'Sith' character is more like a rogue Jedi, or a Dark Jedi I guess, I need to do some research on that. He's in no way aligned with what the actual Sith are planning, nor does he want what theywant. The Sith character merely uses the Dark Side of the Force as a means to his own ends; it is a powerful ally, and he knows this, so he's going to use it. The Jedi has something he needs, and once he gets it the two will decide that perhaps it is a good idea to stick together. Also, I doubt the Jedi would outright kill someone, as they don't like to do those sort of things. But don't forget, if she is rescued by the Sith character, what exactly is going to cause her to kill him? Especially when she needs him just as much as he needs her. The others would have their own reasons. A bounty hunter may have been promised a large sum, a smuggler may be granted whatever. The droid would be protocol/humanoid, but he would have programming that could give him similar abilities as an Astromech. I would have wanted it to be Old Republic era, after or even perhaps during the Mandalorian Wars - though that would cause complications with the Bounty Hunter character and the Jedi.
I'm not going to host this cause I want to host Shadewoode, but I want to go ahead and throw this out there; perhaps someone else may want to host it. Ever played KotOR or KotOR II? It was an epic role-playing game set in the Star Wars universe with a cast of really great characters; each one was unique. I want to do a KotOR-era or post-Empire era role-play concerning a group of various individuals with very different backgrounds who come together and embark on an adventure (or set of adventures) together. Over time the characters reveal their histories and personalities rather than reveal them via the OOC bios. But what types of characters and backgrounds would you want? Each player-character would serve a very specific role in the storyline. So far I have: The Jedi Knight - A powerful Jedi Knight, more or less the protagonist (alongside the Sith). I prefer a female to offset the male Sith. He/she is captured by the Sith Lords but is rescued. The Sith - A powerful and unforgotten 'Sith', though he does not identify himself as Sith. He is out to pursue the actualSith Lords for whatever reason. I will be playing him. He rescues the Jedi Knight, which is how the quest starts. The Smuggler - The Smuggler owns the crew's spaceship, one of the best ones in the galaxy (think Ebon Hawk or Millennium Falcon). He/she is hired on to transport the Jedi Knight's crew to other planets, but also knows some basic combat. The Thief - Individual who gets by on stealth and stealth-related actions; can sneak into places. Hired on to 'do some special jobs need doin''. The Mandalorian - Experienced Bounty Hunter either hired by the Jedi Knight, or hired to kill the Jedi Knight. Whichever case, he/she becomes part of the crew. They are well-equipped, weapon-experts for the team. The Droid - Sentient droid with hacking/intelligence abilities. They are not like a battle droid; they are fully sentient, like a living organism - such a General Grievous (although he wasa Cyborg); I do this to allow them some sort of liveliness and not make them some 'basic machine'. Sith Lords - Antagonists, not playable.
Expect an OOC on Friday or Saturday, already got some of it written.
Humans, elves, dwarves (and any variations of the three) are allowed without question. Custom races -may- be allowed but I need to see them first. I'll work on an ooc and see if I can't get it up this weekend. Then next week I'll work on the IC and try to post it next weekend.
