Under Deep

Fantasy/Adventure

Interest Check: www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/23089/posts/ooc?page=1

Setting: On a large scale, it takes place in the Heartlands, a region on the continent of Omeria, and home to the Six Towers, but that's another story. On a smaller scale, it takes place in and around Valuun Keep. Just outside of Valuun Keep, about an hour or so of walking distance, sits NightRaven Inn, the only refuge within miles.

Plot: As the story goes, Valuun Keep's construction was ordered by the mad general Valrund. He apparently built it around a cave opening that leads to 'Under Deep', although these are just mere rumors. Valuun Keep has become infamous, as anyone who ventures to close seemingly disappears - never to be seen again. To this day the locals and other travelers tend to just steer clear of the structure.

A recent earthquake, however, has the locals concerned. Something is definitely up with that keep, and perhaps something even more sinister is brewing in its depths. Perhaps the rumors of Under Deep are true, and if so what could possibly be down there? The goal is for you guys - the players - to try and uncover the mystery of Valuun Keep.

I was busy today, and I'll probably be busy tomorrow. Who knew you could be so busy without a job? It's getting summertime again, which means a lot of yard work and helping fix some broken down trucks quite often. I'll have some free time, but I'm only going to post the OOC when I have time to actually sit down, think, and write it out; I don't want to rush it. Also, the IC will be the same: I ain't gonna rush it. But I'm a man with lots of free time at the moment, so expect an OOC within the next week and a half, and an IC within a week or so after that - if not sooner!

I'm interested, but the tavern part puts me off. The story has potential, whereas the meeting in a bar scenario is overused and, at least in my experience, leads to a quick roleplay death. This is entirely your roleplay and your decision. I would just consider if it is at all possible for characters to have already (briefly) met on the way to the fortress shortly before the roleplay begins, or something along those lines.

You guys are not necessarily 'meeting up', but if you want to plan that you may. The only refuge within miles of the fortress is NightRaven Inn, where your characters will probably be resting before they begin their journey. You guys will just happen to end up there almost the same time, and what you do from there is up to you. You may collaborate with other players and make it so you guys came there together.
Yes, you may fill out the Character Sheet here for now, and I will reserve you a spot in the OOC if this garners enough interest.

As for magic in TES, it was something that was more widespread than in other media such as Lord of the Rings. The typical beginner mage could very easily learn to cast fireballs and resurrect the dead. So there's a lot of freedom in magic. Stronger mages (and wizards) would be able to cast more fireballs in quick succession with ease, or raise whole legions the dead. In other words, magic is not entirely limited like it is in Lord of the Rings.
Under Deep is a pretty standard fantasy/adventure, group roleplay. There's this old, abandoned fortress sitting on this rocky outcropping that a lot of people say is haunted. People who venture to close to it often disappear and never return, and the locals tend to steer clear of it. As the story goes, it was built around a cave opening that leads to "Under Deep", commonly thought to be a 'gateway' to the Underworld, or to a great and forbidden power, though these rumors are entirely unfounded.

A recent earthquake, however, has the locals concerned. Something strange is definitely going on in the fortress, and whatever it is probably caused the earthquake. Perhaps the stories of Under Deep are true, and if they are who knows what's down there? So the roleplay will follow a group of adventurers (that's you) who make their way to NightRaven Inn (which sits not to far from the fortress). You guys will meet up here, discuss a plan, and tackle the challenge of Under Deep to uncover its mystery once and for all. The result could lead to character deaths, PvP, and other things.

As for the world, you should know that it takes place on a continent known as Omeria, and more specifically in a region known as the Heartlands, home of the Six Towers, but that's another story we won't be getting into (right now). Humans, elves, dwarves, drow, etc are all allowed. Goblins/orcs/trolls are akin to the ones found in Tolkien-fantasy and are therefore unplayable. Custom races are fine, but they must be run by me first. Magic is similar to The Elder Scrolls, but nothing to overpowered (so the greatest Mage and the greatest Warrior would probably be equal).

Hey people are making progress with their characters! Kind of a side note, I'm not going to accept nor deny any characters until the 7th of April. That's the deadline I want for character submissions, because though I'm sure with a month to work on a character it would be an absolute gem I'm also impatient. : No one actually has magic as of the start of the roleplay, it's essentially going to be gifted throughout it at random or by the gods(my) will. If you don't want to throw fireballs that's up to you, but you can't trade no magic for better melee skills just yet.

Oh, alright, that's still okay. I guess my magic will be augmentations then, that enhance my strength/speed/agility/perception.
@King Tempest: My bio ought to be finished. I've tidied it up and changed a few things, and you can re-read it if you want. Any problems just tell me. Also, Joric doesn't have any sort of magical aptitude like other characters, and instead focuses entirely on up-close-and-personal melee combat, so he's pretty good at it.
@King Tempest: Well I had intended for Joric to be a Varan from Asgeir who traveled to this land. He hasn't taken a side yet because he doesn't think it's in his interests and thinks it is a petty war. But he's a hero like most of my characters and so will join the people who are venturing into the mist because he feels it is a "hero's duty". Up until then he made his living by acting as a sort of bodyguard-type person who protected traders and travelers on the roads, bounty hunting (killing bandits), hunting, and sword-for-hire type of stuff. I'd say he'd be more of a Freeman than anything, though he doesn't necessarily 'own' land but he travels around the region.

Unless of course, this isn't that type of roleplay. If you watch Game of Thrones, think of Bronn the sellsword.
I'll read the bio later, but Drow can live about.... 2000 years. They lost their immortality after the Arcane Wars. Some may be able to stay alive longer depending on how much dark arts they know.
