*Name: Boo Guy *Universe: Super Mario *Appearance: *Personality: Boo Guy, like most Shy Guys, is a hard-working spirit (quite literally) and feels the same range of emotions as anybody else, from surprise, to shame, to timidity, to happiness. Boo Guy sometimes gets tired and sweaty despite being a ghost. Being a Shy Guy subspecies, Boo Guy is naturally shy and mild-mannered, preferring to go about his labor. *Powers/Skills: Boo Guy can hurt his enemies... JUST BY TOUCHING THEM. WITH THE SIDE OF HIS BODY. BECAUSE HE GETS FLATTENED IF HE IS EATEN/STOMPED. (Granted, he isn't the strongest in terms of that; the extent of this is knocking Baby Mario off Yoshi's back.) He can also form a variety of facial expressions despite the fact that he is wearing a mask. *Brief Bio: Boo Guy has a job. He works as a bomb-passer and substitute mace-turner at the local fortress in World 2. It's honest work; just pass the bombs over or turn the wheel, get paid, rinse, repeat. It's a good life. Room and board, full dental. Boo Guy thinks the Boo Guy girl on the other side of the bottomless chasm is pretty cute. Boo Guy is somewhat annoyed by Bandits and the way they seem to run about everywhere. But his job isn't to criticize his coworkers, it's to pass the bombs and occasionally turn the wheel. He was nice to the other guys, and he always admitted to whenever he dropped the bomb by accident due to a sudden earthquake caused by a rampaging dinosaur. Boo Guy was plucked from his happy home in the fortress; one day, the Boo Guys realized that he didn't show up to work, and wondered why; normally, Boo Guy was an adamant hard worker and never missed a day. Perhaps he had some sort of sickness? *Equipment: Boo Guy carries on his person a stash of bombs and an orange spiked flail, as well as a white handkerchief. *Others: This particular Boo Guy is neutral and unaligned with Bowser.
@Mr Allen J@BurningDaisies Ratchet nodded and grabbed her addled brother, ushering her cousin with her other arm. "They didn't put anything in you, did they?" she asked Winston and Kate. Neither of them nodded in the affirmative. Ratchet breathed a sigh of relief. "I really shouldn't be leading you two into danger. It's not like we can hit a switch and solve all our problems. This place isn't designed for us to succeed."
"Real inspiring, Un-ni," Winston grumbled, rolling his eyes.
"You two could've been killed. I was worried sick about you, and for good reason, too," Ratchet said.
"I led them to our house," Kate muttered.
"They stalked you to our house. You didn't lead them anywhere," Ratchet reassured. "Our first concern is getting out of here."
"Why'd that guy just decide to give your friend the keys?" Winston asked.
Ratchet shrugged. "That's what we'd all like to know, isn't it?"
@Mr Allen J@BurningDaisies "I've only got one," Ratchet replied. “Jen, keep looking for a key. I might be able to help these people off the tables while you do…”
Ratchet took a look at the latches binding the people to the tables. Standard, albeit somewhat large, padlocks; a simple mechanism. Ratchet’s gears began to turn. She slipped the rip key out of her pocket, placed it on the table, then silenced her cell phone.
She silently set to work, her tongue hanging out as she took bursts of kinetic energy from the flywheel and transferred them to the padlocks’ springs. To Ratchet, it felt a bit like trying to push the same poles of two magnets together; the spring mechanisms opposed her transferred force, and pushed back in perceived indignation. Sweat beaded on her forehead. But finally, she heard a short, satisfying click, signifying the latch’s release. The padlock popped off and Ratchet frantically caught it by the hook, before very gently placing it on the ground.
Something had bothered Ratchet about the two children that the big palooka had lugged into the operating room. She continued working on the current person’s padlocks until that person was totally free.
She then glided over to the end tables, taking care to duck under any windows, and in shock, realized exactly what had bothered her about the fact that Winston and Kate had been kidnapped as well, confirming her worst fears.
“This is total BS,” Ratchet muttered under her breath.
“Sis?” Winston asked, struggling to sit up. It looks like he had been strapped a bit too tight.
“Winnie, shut up, they can’t know I’m here!” Ratchet hissed. Winston immediately clammed up and let Ratchet use her power to work the locks. She slipped once and had to start over on Winston’s legs, cursing under her breath all the way. Kate pretended not to hear Ratchet’s French.
“Where the heck did they catch you?” Ratchet asked.
“Kate saw you getting knocked out from behind and screamed and ran,” Winston explained as Ratchet worked on his torso.
“I’m sorry, I’m such an idiot,” Kate moped.
“You’re not an idiot,” Ratchet chided, undoing the last tumbler on Winston’s torso. “You’re just young and governed by instinct.” She walked to Winston’s neck and undid the latch on the collar.
Winston rubbed his arms; the straps had chafed him. “Who do they think they are, kidnapping children like… grumble, grumble…” Ratchet muttered, working now on Kate’s locks.
Tanner Park & Holly Park
“Wait—No! They were what?!”
Tanner and Holly peeked downstairs, nervously clutching the handles of their travel bags. Their mother seemed quite agitated.
“You aren’t joking? Kate, Winston, and Injae? By who?”
“What?” Holly asked, glancing over at Tanner. “Wait, what the heck happened to Ratch’?”
“I don’t know, but it sounds awful,” Tanner whispered.
“Have you called the police? Yes?” Mrs. Park asked, pacing through the hallway. “Surely there must be a search warrant… You’re saying that this has happened to others? And the police has done nothing?”
“Do you think this means the trip is cancelled?” Holly whispered to Tanner.
“I hope not. I don’t want to leave Ratchet up to dry,” Tanner replied.
“B-but is it safe for my twins?” asked their mother.
“Maybe she has her phone on her,” Holly suggested.
“Are you kidding? We can’t text her if she’s in trouble!” Tanner hissed.
“Don’t you want to know what sort of trouble she’s in?”
Tanner had to admit that he was quite concerned for their cousin. He pulled out his Galaxy and typed a quick message: ”Ratch’, where are you?”
Thirty seconds passed, and there was no answer.
Neither of the twins decided to state the obvious.
“My question is why the police denied any of this was going on,” Holly muttered.
“For a literature nerd, you’re certainly good at stating the obvious,” Tanner remarked.
That earned him a light punch to the shoulder. As in, Holly’s definition of light. As in, quite heavy.
“OW,” Tanner snapped.
That got both of them a scolding from their mother about making loud noises while someone was on the telephone.
“I’m sorry…Yes, we are still coming…Of course…We’ll be there as soon as we can…"
Lives in Irvine, CA; visiting family in Verthaven and staying in University Row
Appearance
Hair Color:
Dark brown
Eye Color:
Dark brown
Ethnicity:
Korean
Physical Appearance:
Tanner has a slightly-oblong, round face with a defined, rounded chin. His eyes look somewhat tired, with the top lid drooping a bit, and he has a straight nose, speckled on the tip with blackheads. Tanner has thin lips and wears retainers (he just got off braces). He likes to smile (he actually read that smiling is better for you and decreases anxiety). He has long hair for a guy, and an especially long bang that he combs over his right eye (and brushes out of the way when painting. The back of his hair reaches down to the middle of his neck. (Holly sometimes jokes that he looks like a K-pop star.)
Tanner is lean and athletic from his routine tennis-playing. His legs and arms are proportional, albeit somewhat thin and toned. He isn’t really broad-shouldered. Tanner hides any fat with his clothing, and prefers not to discuss the subject of fat as it is a distraction from what really matters in life. (And what, exactly, is that? Who knows?) He has good posture; habitually, he likes to stand up and sit up straight. In addition, he owns an artist’s desk slanted at the correct angle, so he has little need to worry about hunching over while drawing. Tanner walks with his chest out and his shoulders relaxed.
Attire:
Tanner usually wears shorts and a T-shirt (because they’re comfy and easy to wear). Typically, he also wears a sweater tied around his waist for easy access whenever he needs it. (Apparently it isn’t exactly a fashion statement; then again, Tanner’s understanding of aesthetics extends only to the realm of visual media.) Tanner has white tennis shoes stained with the brick red of the court, and he generally wears white socks. Tanner tends to dress in block colors; his shorts will match his shirt. (This leads to some color clash with his sweater...)
Personality
Innate & Outward Personality:
Tanner is kind and gentle, although he is also somewhat reserved. He is generally very clean, although when he does crack a dirty joke, he only does so if he thinks it's really funny (eliciting either surprised hysteria or shock and horror from his peers). Tanner is also polite, and tries to look for the best in everyone. Of course, he's not perfectly polite all the time and might slip in a bad mood. Usually he catches himself and apologizes.
Tanner tends to have an optimistic outlook, though he does take into account reality. If spurred into a bout of passion, he will express himself more openly than he normally does, both verbally and visually, through his art. Of course, this may lead to him letting slip some things that might be best left un-slipped.
Internally, he feels somewhat anxious and nervous, even oppressed. Tanner has an attraction to other boys. However, because he lives in a fairly socially-conservative environment in the Orange County, Tanner feels unable to safely release his feelings, thoughts, and emotions to his peers. He struggles with his inability to openly express his homosexuality to his peers, except to close friends who share his worldview (and, of course, to his sister). He has 2 tumblr blogs, one for his art, and the other to reblog more poignant posts that he agrees with. He tries to put on a brave face in public, but lying under his polite air is tension that begs for cathartic release. He seeks his arts and hobbies as an escape from his nervousness.
Hobbies/Interests:
ART. Tanner loves art and gushes about all kinds of art, from classical to pop art to concept art, to the point which small-but-effective design implements excite him. He is an exceptional painter and works primarily with wet media and pencil. He studies classical technique in his free time, though he has yet to perfect it (far from it, actually). Tanner loves visiting galleries and museums; the Getty is always a treat for him. (Normally he studies techniques and styles while Holly prattles about symbols and historical periods and whatnot.)
Tanner also likes to play video games, though unlike his sister (the English-language-geek), he plays them for fun while she analyzes like everything. He doesn't mind; he's actually impressed that Holly can find themes and messages in audiovisual interactive entertainment. He's decent at Mario Kart (though not a god like Ratchet) and likes using Metal Mario (however he is somewhat miffed that they removed Wiggler after Mario Kart 7). He's better, however, at Super Smash Bros., and mains Robin and Duck Hunt. He's also fantastic at Mario Tennis, but nobody he knows plays that. (He also likes using Metal Mario in Open.)
Speaking of tennis, Tanner plays casually, and he isn't half-bad. He mostly does it to stay in shape, and often to clear his mind to allow inspiration to take the place of anxiety. He’s perfectly capable of winning a game, though he is certainly far from a pro or an ace or whatever. Tanner, however, generally does not like other sports.
Skills/Talents:
Tanner is an excellent artist for a fifteen-year-old, and likes to show his work on deviantArt and tumblr. (His Instagram is mostly for WIPs.) He can quickly pick up the basics of new styles (on the other hand, it takes him some time to master them), and even has knowledge of working with 3-D models (at least in Blender, because Maya is FRICKIN’ EXPENSIVE) and digital painting (he does have Photoshop CS6, lucky dog).
In addition, Tanner practices the alto saxophone on his own (not caring to join a school band due to the generally-unsavory fare of the Common North-American Saxophone Section {Aerophonus badbehaviorus}, though of course this is a fairly unfortunate stereotype of sax sections), and has some knowledge of music theory. (Holly is the one who goaded him into learning to play the thing; he can't say he doesn't enjoy it, and he often does sax-trombone duets with her.)
Prized Possession:
A paintbrush given to him on his 10th birthday.
Quote(s):
"Oh, God, the proportions are all wrong!" "No, that is NOT how breasts work! I can't believe I'm looking at this crap on deviantArt!” “Ack! My old drawings! Kill ‘em with fire!" "Art is a skill of practice. You gotta keep doing it to get good."
History/Bio:
Tanner Park was born on March 23, 2000, to Sanford and Giana Park. One of two twins, Tanner was kind of the quiet one, though he did develop social outgoingness over the course of his life. (In his own quiet way, of course.) Tanner lived in Irvine, CA for most of his life, moving around neighborhoods in the Turtle Rock district. Already, he had established himself as an artist; he showed exceptional talent and enthusiasm for visual arts as a young child, and had earned the admiration of his schoolmates in elementary and middle school.. At this point, Tanner didn’t know that he had exceptional control over paint. Of course, artistic talent was a thing, but he didn't know that metahuman powers were a factor in his art.
Tanner tried getting into the Orange County High School of Arts, but did not get in. (Perhaps because there were a whole slew of other visual artists, and because Tanner lived so far away.)
Tanner's power emerged in a burst of passion, after having a heated argument with a student about his artwork. The student said that Tanner was doing everything wrong; this was about the time that Tanner's hypos were strung up, and this subsequently led to overturned paint cans and a Splatoonesque mess that Tanner had to help clean up (especially since the !?#%$& didn't stick around). Tanner began to experiment with his power over paint (his first experiments helped speed up the cleanup process tenfold).
Tanner and Holly went to a different school for Metahumans (though he didn’t know that he was classified as Metahuman, only “genetically gifted”) after discovering his power over wet ink and paint. There, they were subjected to dangerous physical and mental tests (read:obstacle courses of DEATH) and put through things that no child should ever have to go through. Suffice it to say, they decided not to go back to that boarding school, and instead opt for a more conventional high school experience. Oddly, the academy that they had attended was not involved with N.E.S.T. and therefore they were not registered in the Metahuman directory.
Last year, Tanner began to struggle with his sexuality. Afraid of being teased, Tanner suppressed his urges and denied being gay (because early-pubescent boys are merciless in jeering those who are different). Tanner became somewhat quiet, and rather uncomfortable, only disclosing his convictions to Holly and to his art. Holly urges him to talk to somebody about coming out. However, he was unable to express his feelings at the academy.
After the school year, Tanner and Holly both dropped the academy and enrolled in University High School, a school known for "grilling" its students. (Though not literally, unlike their previous academy.) They do have responsibilities to take care of in the transition (summer homework comes to mind).

Abilities
Power Class:
Elemental
Power:
Chromokinesis: The ability to manipulate paintings and their subjects, as well as their canvases. This extends to liquid ink and watercolor; watercolor and oils tend to be the easiest for Tanner to manipulate due to the easy access of water for the former and the somewhat long drying time for the latter. (Oil paint, however, is indeed expensive.)
Tanner can form abstract shapes with the paint; these require little effort, since it's the equivalent of a small child smearing fingerpaints upon a piece of paper. With more effort, Tanner can also maintain paints in the form that they were in on canvas, effectively creating some sort of painted avatar. These, however, are complex and difficult to maintain. Tanner's powers are closely connected to his imaginative ability.
Tanner also uses this power to aid in his painting. It helps that pigments conform to his vision.
Limits:
This power works on pigments in a wet solution, so oil pastel, chalk, graphite, and other dry media do not respond to Tanner. This prevents any trouble involved in destroying precious art. In addition, Tanner must follow the law of conservation of mass; he only has access to as much paint as is in the vicinity. If he paints a train, it stays painting-size or smaller. Also, the more complex the idea he has, the more difficult it is to manipulate the paint into that form. Living creatures larger than a small dog are nigh impossible at this point. Complex machines are also a no-no; however, he can manipulate paint into any SHAPE he wants.
And of course, there must be wet media present for his power to work. Otherwise he's just a guy who happens to know how to paint.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
Oftentimes Tanner's power takes a while to implement because of the need to actually paint. Tanner himself must concentrate in order to keep paints in the same form; as such, too much exertion causes him to get migraines. Anything further knocks him out. His power also lasts for a shorter time when he is in stress, burning him out more than usual.
Other:
Sample Post:
"God, that school was awful," Tanner declared, flopping prostrate on his bed upon returning from boarding school on the last day. "I can't believe that those tests were legal."
"Tell me about it," said his sister Holly, sitting on the bed next to him. "Whose dumb idea was it to expose teenagers to spiky instruments of torture, anyway?"
"I'm glad we're going to Uni next year. They say that they grill their kids, but anything sounds better than that frickin' academy." Tanner closed his eyes and sighed. "Do you think I should join band?”
“I dunno,” Holly shrugged. “Normally that would be a resounding YES but since you play alto saxophone, that might be debatable.”
“Good point,” Tanner agreed. “I’ll go through band camp and see if it’s right for me. If it isn’t, then I’ll probably have to find some other VPA.”
The siblings sat on the bed like this for a while. Holly turned to Tanner once more and asked, “So, you excited to go to Verthaven for our uncle’s wedding?”
“Bleh,” Tanner replied. “Weddings are boring.”
“Yeah, but Om-ma said that Injae-un-ne is going there for the summer as well.”
“Ratchet? How long has it been since we last saw her?” Tanner sat up.
“We haven’t seen her in over a year and a half,” Holly replied. “Hey, you can show her how good you got at Smash or something.”
“Oh, yeah. I mean, she has a hand over me in Mario Kart, of course, but I can’t wait to see the look on her face when I mop the floor with Rosalina as Robin.”
“I’ll be there to watch.” Holly laughed. “And maybe video-record it.”
“But first we have to deal with sitting through the wedding,” Tanner said. “Ugh. For how many hours do those drag on and on and on and on…”
“Hey, hey, at least Kate looks adorable as the flower girl,” Holly protested.

Lives in Irvine, CA; visiting family in Verthaven and staying in University Row
Appearance
Hair Color:
Dark brown
Eye Color:
Dark brown
Ethnicity:
Korean
Physical Appearance:
In terms of facial structure, she resembles Tanner in her oblong head shape and placement of features. However, her jaw is narrow, unlike Tanner's, and her eyes are constantly alert. (Usually in response to Holly's comments that he has K-pop hair, Tanner retorts with the statement that Holly has K-pop eyes. Holly has round cheeks and a straight nose, and thin lips that are slightly fuller than Tanner's, though not by a lot. While Tanner likes to smile, Holly loves to grin. Her hair is stylistically similar to Tanner’s, albeit mirrored and slightly longer. She also bleached the rear edges so that she could get highlights.
Holly made it a habit to jog every morning to wake herself up (got to keep up appearances, you know), and as a result is quite fit, with lean, shapely legs. She usually smells like a freshly-printed book (unless she is all sweaty, in which case she smells like B.O.). Holly isn't overly voluptuous; rather, her body has a sort of bean-like shape, save for her B-cups. She does have a feminine body shape.
Attire:
It really depends on what Holly feels like wearing, though she rarely deviates from track shorts (Tanner recently noted the similarity between Inkling lower-body fashion in Splatoon and Holly's wardrobe) and whatever top she decides to wear that day. Holly claims that her legs never get cold, and that she is too lazy to change her pants. (Tanner facetiously remarks that she also wears them to tease her legs to boys, to which she replies, "I can neither confirm nor deny that statement without the secretary's approval," with a wink.) Generally on hot days it's T-shirts and tank tops, cooler days it's blouses, and on the token chilly week in December in California she wears a hooded sweatshirt.
Personality
Innate & Outward Personality:
What you see is what you get with Holly; she is a gaily girl with a passion for reading, and a positive outlook on life. She is deferential in such a way that it reflects her own sophistication and civility, and she exudes a sort of energetic vibrance through her literary passion. Holly has a fondness for cute things, and an extensive understanding of literary techniques and motifs. She deeply loves her twin brother, and can read him like a book, often finishing his sentences for him ("If we're going to be stereotyped," she says, "we might as well live up to their expectations"). She is very protective of her brother, and turns fierce when Tanner is in trouble. However, she also teases Tanner with the fact that she is the older twin ("thirteen minutes still matters"), and acts mock-condescending towards him, but is facetious every time.
Holly doesn't like talking about her year at the academy with anybody, preferring to ignore it and everything that happened in it. She dances away from the subject if it is brought up, and refuses to bring it up herself. She isn't overtly hostile about it, but she does passive-aggressively indicate that she will metaphorically shank anybody who probes the subject.
She has a sort of facetious attitude towards archetypes and stereotypes, and her speech reflects that sassy caricatured attitude. She looks at almost every work of fiction with a literary lens ("Mario?! STORY?! Pppffffttthhhahahahahahaha!"). She may be far from sensible, but she is also by no means shallow. However, she can be a bit careless at times. (Not with important secrets, of course, but with plates.)
Hobbies/Interests:
Reading and writing; she also likes model trains and Broadway musicals (though she did watch the Starkid musicals, her favorites being Twisted and The Trail to Oregon). She absolutely loves the Narnia books and The Lord of the Rings' and constantly references both. She plays video games for story, and therefore prefers story-heavy games such as Fire Emblem, or games with hidden lore such as Five Nights at Freddy's. She also makes extensive use of headcanon.
Skills/Talents:
Holly is a great close reader. In addition to this she is also a good trombone player, able to easily play complex runs, and likes to duet with Tanner's sax playing. Holly can also play ukulele and knows "The Duck Song," which she uses to annoy Tanner to no end by barging into his room and yelling it at the top of her lungs.
Prized Possession:
A fountain pen with a gold nib; presumably it is similar to the one that Anne Frank used to write her diary.
Quote(s):
"Ooh, irony!" "Dick jokes! I love Dick jokes! I've got a boatload!" "Surprise! Expecting an astrophysicist?"
History/Bio:
Holly was born March 23, 2000, alongside Tanner Park, and is the elder twin of the two by 13 minutes. The more boisterous of the twins, she was always louder and more present. She did learn to control herself, though she did get into a bit of trouble in the early school years.
Holly was always a reader, and her parents knew that all she needed was a book to get her to calm down for a while. Her parents noticed that she spent more time than usual on any given book, probing its words and illustrations (if applicable), and she had a propensity towards denser books. She established herself by second grade as one of the brightest humanities-based kids in her class (though her math certainly left something to be desired). However, she was always quite cheerful and outgoing, and stuck her hands into quite a few friends circles. Holly always went to the same schools as Tanner.
Her power surfaced towards the middle of fourth grade, when as she read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, a cloud paper cranes appeared to flutter about her head, with each crane carrying a wish of wellbeing on its wings. It was noticeably calmer than Tanner's power surfacing, that's for sure.
After the school year, Tanner and Holly both dropped the academy and enrolled in University High School, a school known for "grilling" its students. (Though not literally, unlike their previous academy.) They do have responsibilities to take care of in the transition (summer homework comes to mind).

Dynamics:
Tanner Park | Spectacular | Twin Brother, Partner-in-Figurative-Crime | "I love my doofus nerd brother, just like he loves his doofus nerd sister. We're always there for each other." |
Abilities
Power Class:
Cerebral
Power:
Literate Manifestation--Holly has an advanced ability to read and understand texts of both fiction and nonfiction. In essence, part of her power is pretty much superpowered close reading. However, this sets up for the other part of her power, in which she can will literary and textual subject matters into existence. This, however, requires an understanding of concepts conveyed through those subjects; for instance, Holly can will an example of, say, a crank shaft from a how-it-works text into a temporary existence, making it palpable to those around her. It is somewhat like the Pokémon Mr. Mime's ability to will invisible barriers into existence.
Limits:
Holly must have an extensive understanding of a book's themes, motifs, characters, and the like in order to use the more complex aspects of her power. Therefore, simpler characters such as those from children's books, as well as objective concepts such as biological or mechanical diagrams, are easier to will into temporary existence. Also, she cannot project too many subjects at once; the more complex her subjects, the fewer she can project. For instance, Holly cannot will into existence the entire crew of the Pequod from Moby-Dick because of the literary complexity of at least five of Melville's characters. However, she can will many objective mechanical concepts into existence due to the relative simplicity of mechanical diagrams.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks:
Using her power too many times, or too much at once, will give Holly a severe migraine; this is a warning sign that Holly should stop. If she continues, she begins to hallucinate, before entering a semi-comatose state, forcing her mind to cool off. This causes her to collapse to the ground. However, Holly can use her powers of analysis as much as she wants. (After all, she is a bookworm.)
