Responsibility belongs not to the name stenciled on the mantel, but to the one who carries the mantle.

I stop eating long enough to respond to Vlad, but then return to my breakfast as I await my assignment for the day. I notice the others also seem sore, that annoying, but not unexpected.

Come now Vlad, you aren't that big a fool. Yesterday was no bid for independence, and you know it, it merely a test of our own capacity to work together. Since you're pissed off about it, I'd say we passed with flying colors.

Isa expected Vlad to react to his little rebuttal, and didn't much care how he decided to react. It was a valid point, sure a few of them may have panicked towards then end and tried to make an escape from their good fortunes in the caf, but it wasn't a concerted escape effort by any means. It had been exactly what it had looked like, a brawl in which one side worked vaguely in concert with each other against a team of trained soldiers. Thankfully they didn't seem to know their teammates any better than we did, or yesterday would have gone poorly. Isa idly wondered if Vlad had the wherewithal, or authority, to fix that minor issue... He hoped not, but thought it would be resolved in a few weeks tops.
Posted, I hope that NPC wasn't important. XD

"That's my Mom!" -Liz

... Hmmm, nope, not important. Move along folks, nothing to see here. *whistles innocently* :P

Shit... Okay! I got it, we're turning around! Just settle down a moment, you aren't helping anyone by panicking, and you might cause her more pain in your panic so chill!
I carefully decelerate, not slowing down to quickly, lest Liz go flying through my wind shield and complicate the day even further. I do a U turn and go back to where I could see the woman lying in the snow. I unlock the doors, as we roll to a stop, knowing Liz wouldn't wait to jump out. I park the wagon, turning on my hazards, and checking the street around us, we seemed to be alone, but that didn't mean much. I run around to the back of the wagon and pull out my med kit, closer to a battle field medic's pack than a first aid kit, and run over to join Liz by her mother's side. I try to asses the damage as I kneel across from Liz, opening the bin and moving the boxes of small bandages and burn cream out of the way. Thankfully the snow drift on the side of the road seemed to have cushioned her fall considerably, meaning she might get off with only a broken leg after all. Dmitri hoped that was all he'd done. He didn't usually care about others, and interestingly he really only cared about this woman because she was someone of significance to Liz.

Where does it hurt? Can you feel anything right now?

@KatherinWinter your turn again.
@Shikaru Well, she's probably not dead, yet. Broken leg(s) and spine and probably a concision, but she's not yet achieved the bliss of numbing death.

As I drive I glance back at Liz, noticing her expression, and recognizing it, as I'd seen it enough times. She didn't like being alone any more than any other kid her age did. Damn, but what can I do? It's not like I know anything about have a daughter, and she'd probably just laugh me off for offering anyway. Not to mention being part of a mafia family wouldn't make life much easier for her, it'd just further isolate her from her peers. But it wasn't like she could just show up at school and start making friends the usual way...

I curse, as the woman jumps in front of me. It's to late to stop, so I press the gas pedal to the floor, accelerating to meet the woman with as much momentum as possible. She'd either move, or be crushed, and Dmitri didn't much care which at this point. He'd promised to get Liz home in one piece, and he was going to do it if he had to get through all of hell to do it.

Shit! Get down Liz!

The woman realized her peril, and tried to get out of the way, but not fast enough. She leaped to one side, and the wagon's front right quarter, clipped her hip and thigh, sending her spinning off into the ditch on the other side of the road. The wagon, a solid German design, barely noticed the impact and kept accelerating down the road.

I move slowly down the hall and towards the cafeteria, my head still pounding and my body sore, as if I'd been in fist fight ro something, but I didn't remember getting into a fight or being beaten... oh wait... I did sort of start a fight didn't I? But I didn't get pummeled then... it must have been after I was shot then... figures, Vlad was a sadistic bastard, he'd certainly be beating everyone, and probably especially Roxy. That irked me somewhat, but it was just tough luck for the girl. She'd have to live with it or die trying as there wasn't anything I could do about it right now.

I set myself erect, and proud, and stride confidently into the room, I wasn't about to show weakness in here. I may have lost the fight, but I wasn't beaten. I take an empty seat, noting the scarred figure already seated, not recognizing him immediately I assumed him to be the boy in the dark hoodie that had stayed in the shadows for most of the previous meal. I nodded in his direction but then focused on my breakfast.
I'd put them in the woods just outside of the starting town, mostly diurnal level ones and twos, with a maybe a few rare level three nocturnal boars that drop rarer food ingredients (roast pig/rack o' ribs). That's my two cents. It lets beginning players see the difference between day and night in mobs before things get too dangerous.
