Responsibility belongs not to the name stenciled on the mantel, but to the one who carries the mantle.

Mervyn started as someone shook him awake, bolting up into a sitting position and glancing around blearily as the world spun around him uncontrollably. He swayed back and forth planting both hands behind him to steady himself as the world slowly began to settle around him. "I'm up!" His breathing rapid, from being startled awake, Mervyn focused his eyes reluctantly and saw a young woman's face centimeters from his own and he blinked in surprise, unable to do much more than stare in shock as his world wasn't quite stable yet. "Or am I?"

Realizing his rudeness, Mervyn jerked his head away from the woman blushing and sending his glasses tumbling from his face. Great job Merv you wake next to a woman and the first thing you do is stare like a dumb lamb, that's sure to score some points. And stop acting like bimbo! You're just making things worse! You try waking up to a stranger shaking you! I'm not even in bed, and my clothes are all on so we didn't do anything together.. bummer. He caught his glasses with a practiced hand, and slid them back on before checking the rest of himself.

He felt... mostly numb, but a little sore too. He was breathing slow deep breaths now and checking his pockets and searching the bag that had lain next him... nothing was missing. He looked around seeing the unfamiliar sights around him, and the others, and turned back to the woman who'd woken him. What the dickens? Was this some kind of party or what and how did I get invited if it was?

I'd forgotten the strap, I slip it into a pocket, I'd put it away later. That was the easy part, now to get her to a hospital and checked in without any actual papers, that'd be interesting, but I'd done it all before, just not without it being on Uncle's to do list, I hoped that wouldn't complicate things. I ask Liz where she want to ride on the way there and to help me get her mom into the car. "Don't thank me yet, this job's not done yet. Liz I'll need your help getting her into the car, do you want to ride in the back with mom?" I don't really expect much help from Liz, due to her small stature, but it was important that she thought she was being helpful. I didn't need Liz breaking down into hysterics while I tried to get us all to a hospital. I gently help Annalise sit up, and give her a moment to brace herself, as I put one arm over my shoulders, and slide my own arm around her back. I heave up in a rapid, but surprisingly smooth motion, pausing to let Annalise get her footing, before walking/dragging her over to the car and helping her into the back. "Liz why don't you hop in and let mom rest her head in your lap, so she's somewhat comfortable on the ride, and you two can catch up or whatever you two need to do." I make sure they are situated as comfortably as possible, tucking the blankets around Annalise a little to help her stay warm after having been in the snow for so long. Then I carefully close the back hatch and slide into the driver's seat, the clouds had me worried as well, worried I wouldn't get to back to the hospital before a blizzard or something equally unpleasant hit. I went faster than was legal, calling ahead to the hospital so they'd have a stretcher ready. I picked up Chicago PD three blocks from the hospital, figures, I ignored them, and swung into the emergency room's drive through a little faster than most might have liked, but I stopped without hitting anyone else, popping the back hatch as I jumped out waving the nurses forward. I left the keys in the ignition and the door open, not that anyone with half a brain would think of stealing my car, assuming they recognized me of course. I helped get Annalise onto the stretcher, and told Liz to stay with her mom, I'd be in as soon as I dealt with the cop, now parked next to my wagon. "Stay with your mom, and don't let go of her hand, they'll work around you. Don't worry Momma's gonna be fine."

"Ahh, care to join me and friend then? We'll be doing the same, and there's less risk in a group, even if individual xp gain is diminished."

Cin shook the offered hand and sent a party invite and friend request to Kip Omega. If she declined he'd be a bit sad, but he'd shrug it off. Dwelling on the things you don't have will only lead to despair, and there was to much to be done to waste time on despair and hopelessness. Cin finally check his PM's and chuckled. He sent a reply saying he'd catch up soon.

"Speak of the devil, here's Tsu himself saying he's already out and about getting a head start on us."

"Just don't ask Vlad or the goons for ideas, unless you like lap dancing. What skills do you have that you can't demonstrate here? I seem to have a head for small unit tactics."

Isa wandered away from the guard, walking apparently aimlessly through the gym, mostly to keep any one guard from hearing t he entire covnerstaion, he didn't like them any more than they liked him.

Cin finished his breakfast, as he nodded in agreement with Kip's observation. The food was a tad off, really just enough to notice, but it was disconcerting all the same. He hadn't tried the cider, he'd have to do that next time he was in, probably later tonight. He paid his tab and finished the last of his coffee before seeing if his breakfast date had plans for the day. Cin rolled his head and shoulders as he spoke, trying to relieve sore muscles.

"What are your plans for today? I'm Cin Vhetin, by the way, pardon my lack of manners please."
Eros normally would have been using his own bow, but the elves were far better shots than he, so he'd been delegated to foot soldier. He didn't mind, he was just as good, if not a little better, with his spear as he was with his bow. Eros watched as the orcs approached and the traps went off. He sprung out of hiding, in the caves and charged a warg and it's rider, kneeling and bracing his spear just before the warg lunged at him, and skewered itself on the sturdy shaft. Springing back and up onto his feet, Eros deftly parried a swing from the ward rider as the warg snarled in pain. Eros hadn't been able to hit anything vital, that was disappointing, but not a problem, yet. He backed into the crevasse He'd been hiding in and thrust his spear rapidly at the warg and rider, scoring several minor hits while managing to avoid serious injury himself. The warg lunged again, reaching with a paw for Eros' torso, but Eros had been waiting for it, and stepped forward stabbing the leaf bladed spear deep into the warg's throat. The orc's sword clanged on his iron cap, and bounced off his shoulder. Eros stepped back as the warg reeled, discarding it's lunging rider, and dashing off through the fray leaving a trail of spattered blood behind him.

Eros jammed the butt of his spear into the fallen rider's skull, as he stepped back into the fray himself. He ducked a wild swing, tripping the attacking orc before stabbing it's foul heart. Taking in the scene around him, Eros noticed that one of the archer's had fallen, and moved help defend her, but ran into a pair of nasty brutes instead. Eros feinted a jab to the left, before slashing at the orc on his right. The orc to his left tried to parry the jab that never came, and lost his opportunity to strike, while the orc to the right barely parried in time, stepping back to gain some breathing room. Eros dodged the clumsy swipe from the orc on his left as he stabbed the butt of the spear into it's face, breaking it's nose. He moved to put a pillar at his back, as a third orc joined the skirmish with a yell and a butcher's hack that glanced off the Eros' iron cap, leaving a dent in the cap and an awful ringing in his ears. He parried the next attack, coming from the orc on his right, into the the orc that had been to his left, but now stood in front of him. That bought him enough time to stab at the newest arrival, an orc standing where it had been behind him, but was now to his left. The orc parried and countered, which Eros deftly parried, but was unable to retaliate as the other two came at him again.
@LadyTale Hey, leave some for the rest of us!! There were only about thirty orcs in the OP and the traps killed 15... plus your twenty seven alone makes 42 dead orcs. Which means no orc slaying for the rest of us, :'(

Totally unconcerned, I turn back to the guard and hold his weapon out in my left hand offering it back to him. I hoped Roxy was sensible enough to climb back down before Vlad decided to insist I shoot her down, but if she wasn't that was her problem.

"If Vlad is dissatisfied with the performance, he should consider hiring competent assistants. And you are clearly not competent, as you are unable to adequately communicate with your charge, and your gun looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months. Where did he find you, Rent-a-Thug? I performed exactly as promised. If you want me to repeat the performance I will, but this time I get to pick the target."

Isa didn't mind doing show and tell, but he wasn't about to waste any energy on this particularly dumb brute. He'd always been snarky, but since his parents had died he'd been getting worse. Now he had no issues performing as required, but he took great pleasure in being an pain in the arse at every available opportunity.

Thanks, sorta, but mostly just didn't sleep well. You?

The coffee helped immensely, at least with the scratchy voice, though it and the pancakes left something to be desired in the taste and texture departments. Cin hoped the quality of food would improve as they got to new levels. That meant they'd have to finish this level first of course, but that wouldn't take long. With 10000 players, and every one in ten of those a beta tester, Cin was certain that the first few levels would go by quickly.
A two-hander shouldn't go through pots any quicker than normal. They would have heavy armour, reducing the damage they take, and focus on stun skills and skills that knock the enemy off their feet.

Depends on the play style, Cin is a brawler, he's looking to do as the most damage possible, as quickly as possible, with very little regard for his own personal safety until the fight is over. He's not really interested in disabling his opponents, he's very interested in destroying anything in his path. Doesn't want to play the game, the way he's expected too, mostly out of defiance against the creator, but partly because he's doesn't take any pleasure from killing an incapacitated opponent.
