Mind if I ask how it would "greatly limit what we can do with it down the road"? I'm curious on how exactly something like the Warp/Noosphere/Arcanum would limit us.

Well, it restricts use of potent magic only to those capable of zealous belief, obviously, that's one thing just off the top of my head. It also becomes difficult to draw a line between an actual science, with an underlying logic, and just plain superstition, if belief is all that is needed to interact with magic. Those two aspects are something we may or may not want, depending on the setting: it is fitting in WH40k, since that universe benefits from a grimdark setting with mad zealots, devotees, pious religiousness and constant war, but i don't think it's applicable to everything.

Also, i must correct you - the noopsphere is a concept strictly related to thought and has nothing to do with magic on its own; thought of course, we can choose to establish a connection between the two.

EDIT: no, really. is that passive aggressiveness oozing from your post, or is it just me being too touchy?
There is a separate "realm" where all the ideas, emotions and thoughts of all living things become real, for now we can call this is Arcanum. Once you have enough people doing a certain thing or believing in a certain thing, it will happen. So if one group of people have complete zealous devotion to their god or pantheon, said god will become real in the Arcanum. If there are a series of incredibly violent, bloody wars, there will be a god of war or bloodlust which will be formed.

This way, all living beings have a connection to the Arcanum but their minds "clouded" in the way that because they do not focus on a single idea or belief for long enough, they have little effect on it but can study/meditate/train to "tune" their minds thus becoming more powerful. There are also individuals who are naturally gifted with this "clear of mind" and can have greater access to the Arcanum without much training.

In terms of spells, this means that the more people you have focusing their minds on something like a fireball spell, the stronger it'll be because they are all believing in the power of the spell and are all focusing their efforts on making the spell a reality.

I'm against tying magic and the realm of emotion and mind - aka "noosphere" - into one single entity; it may greatly limit what we can do with it down the road. A bit busy right now, but i'll try to provide a magical system of my own ASAP, as an alternative to be taken into consideration.
I'd like our nomad tribe have eastern vibes to its name: something like Zott, Pirkaj or Yoruks - a few names i picked up while reading wikipeidia articles on gypsies. :P
Whoever of you two wins, i shall have you beaten to pulp without a single word spoken OOC.

jk

but i'll try.

And this is precisely my issue with this direction, we can claim that because of different evolutionary timelines means that our bog standard human can do anything and the world can literally be crafted for them. Drink salt water? Ok! Survive in freezing cold temperatures? Still fine! Can go months without eating? Evolution baby! How about animals that are naturally plump and juicy and fat for us to eat? Why the hell not!

There is no sense of urgency in situations like this, things should be based on how it works by science and not what we want. If that was the case, I could claim that a much of space elves have established a colony here on this planet and decided to purge every living thing because it is the "greatest sandbox ever!"

Exactly. While, i, personally, have nothing against non-standart human species, they need to be well thought-through before they make their arrivance. They should have their separate character sheets, really.

Things like drinking salt water could be balanced out by having the filtered salt build up within one's body, causing eventual poisoning - tinkering with such things is not necessarily going to take away the grit and realism. Magic and alternate humanoid species can be done well within such a setting, and i'm certain each of us has seen multiple examples of that being done.

Also, how about something completely different? Say, a nomadic tribe that travels the world, interacts with various different settlements and crosses a multitude of biomes - this could serve as a sort of exploration device, to help actually map out the world we're working in. I'm not opposed to having an already established settlement, but how does this sound as an idea?

So, do we divvy up by parts of the solar system/planet, or by jobs (One person in charge of calamities, or war, prosperity, so on and so forth), or not at all?

I would prefer if we could all change the things we want, and maybe put the building process in to different segments.

Swagmeister's version is closer to what i had in mind; i'm not quite sure what the building processes are supposed to be, but all the players are working with the same exact planet (or planetary system) and can interact with any part of it at will: the surrounding cosmos, nations, their cultures, calamities, wildlife, magic (we are including that, i presume?), or even a single person, be it a king, or peasant.

So something like a large unifed tribal group acting as quasai-Romans and a bunch of independent tribes outside of them?

Exactly. Also, gtg sleep right now, so i'll have to leave the rest of the discussion to you 'till morning.
How should we start tho? Should we leave it to you?

Also, anyone got a good map to use? I might be able to provide one if not.

No way. Other than being able to edit the original OOC post which includes the guidelines and rules, i've as much authority here as any other player.

As for the map, it's definitely going to be needed, but probably later down the road, when we've already got something going. As i said in the above post, we need some momentum going, so deciding the geographical specifics can be left for later - unless the majority of players agree that it's a 100% hype thing to do.

It shouldn't be done hastily either way, as we'll pretty much be stuck with it; hard to change the layout of an entire planet, especially in this kind of roleplay, where will have been actively used in previous posts.
First things first, we ought to discuss how we kick this off.

Having thought about it, i propose that we actually start with an already established civilization; perhaps, a few neighboring tribes that have handed together and become the dominant force in the region, something of that scale. The roleplay needs to evolve fast in order for it to sustain itself, so starting off with something substantial, rather than spending the first ten or so posts describing geography and per-historic wildlife struck me as a rational idea.
