HSV The Vulture's Claw

Captain Yvon Vespasien Lestrange is a young, promising and ambitious commander of the Hegemony Starforce. Apparently even too ambitious. Somebody must hate him in the upper echelon because he was essentially just given the worst post ever. On the surface he got himself a sweet deal. After little more than a year of officership Yvon was suddenly promoted captain, furthermore he was given command of a whole new class of warship. Really, Yvon would had been a fool to refuse this offer. So did he thought. After spending two weeks aboard the HSV Vulture's Claw he'd give almost anything to be transfered to another ship.

The problem that his ship wasn't just new, it was a complete prototype using top secret technologies. Worse, it was created by one of the big private contractors, the Ixythl Conglomerate. Named YV-7220 the ship went through extensive development and featured technologies which might change warfare as we knew it. As the final stage of this decades long project the Ixythl Conglomerate is lending twelve of these so-called stealth destroyers to the Hegemony Starforce in order to test them in live combat. You heard it right, lend them. The ships are still Ixythl property and only XC authorized technical personnel were allowed to tamper with it. In short the HSV Vulture's Claw is owned by Ixythl and after signing hundreds of papers Yvon and his crew was only given permission to use it. Classified technology, which made up a large portion of the vessel, were prohibited for non-XC employed technicians for access. Using any kind of classified technology was prohibited unless they can ensure there will be no witnesses outside of a tight permitted group of people are left alive. Worse yet the fifty-something count XC technical and science crew were escorted by exactly a hundred toughs from the Red Raven PMC. Their leader, who was also appointed to be the ship's XO without Yvon's knowledge, was a hardened veteran called Cezar Voronkhov. He looked so tall and powerful than Yvon had no doubt this man is wrestling sharks and knocking out bears during his pastime. Yvon has a decent physique and had his share in battle but even being in the same room as Cezar was secretly terrifying him. That man was a beast, a living menace. On the other hand Yvon noted with surprise that the gorilla knew his stuff and seemed to know much more about the ship than the captain.

With time everything began to make sense. His quick promotion, the toughs, the secretive research crew, the classified tech straight out of science fiction, everything. Yvon that he's practically just a figurehead, a guy needed to maintain the paper thin disguise this is just a typical Hegemony vessel. Ixythl are still the true owners of the ship and Yvon is just one of their lapdogs to do the tests. The realization dealt a great blow to Yvon's self-esteem and wished he could just resign and leave this farce. But as he analyzed his situation it became clear he was trapped. Barring desertion he's stuck as a pretend captain . The toughs from Red Raven were there to protect Ixythl's interest. One misstep and Cezar's stare turns Yvon into a chaotic mess of atoms. Exaggerations aside a hundred elite mercs are more than enough to massacre his tiny 302-men crew. They know the ship well and were probably even instructed how to take control of the Vulture's Claw in case the original crew had to be liquidated. Yvon had no clear evidence but he trust his gut feeling. He and his crew were dancing on a thin edge. His real job is to make best of their situation even with such depressing odds. Yvon was depressed but he was far from giving up. Afterall he was finally made a captain!
@CapraGod, that's exactly what the Vulture's Claw need, more trouble.
Two military forces are already in a subtle power struggle with each other. You just added a third.
Mainly I think vultures aren't exactly indigenous to all of the hegemony's holdings and systems, so he probably never heard of them before and thinks it's some sort of stupid made up word like "garglesnap" or 'butterjoops'. I personally think it's a pretty cool name.
Reminds me when Zeon soldiers ended up in a thunder storm and thought the lightning strikes were a new Federation superweapon.

And yeah, the name also fits.
Symbolizes well the kind of carnage they're created for.
On a related note if I wish to give a contemporary relation to my ship, it's like a soviet nuclear submarine.
During stealth my style with the ship will be also rather similar to old submarines.

We'll probably move on tonight, but since I need to go away for a while you guys will have free reign to take control of Harald for the trip to La Haye Sainte.
What about Captain Meulemann?
My first post will feature him.
Ohhhhhh, oh okay. I'm sorry! I'll edit my post to just make Reggie say "Well, I couldn't find shit on this thing so it must've been a black ops project, or maybe it's just that new.", or something of that sort. I hope that'd be better?

Alright, done and done, I hope that fits in alright.
No problem.
Like I said, I haven't even told this before.
Yeah, it looks fine.
On a different note what's the issue with a name like "The Vulture's Claw"?
I mean your captain here. Maybe because it isn't the typical name he sees for warships?

@LHG100I wanted to keep the main features of the Vulture's Claw secret in-universe to anybody but the fleet commander and perhaps the ship captains because the Ixythl Conglomerate is almost paranoically afraid of leaks.
Oh well, I never said this, did I? But that was my intention, at least.
My ship's unique features were so secretive that many of them cannot be even used in public.
The FTL cannon for example can be only fired when there's nobody left alive after the fact. Say, you can't use it to destroy pirates that chase a merchant, unless you also plan to kill the civilians. Neither it can be used to intimidate people or send warning shots. It has kind of limited ammunition count, too.
In conclusion the FTL cannon is amazing on paper but held back by tons of bullshit behind the desk.
These restrictions may become looser as time goes on. Either by necessity or because the technology is getting exposed so they no longer need to keep the secret.

And well, this is an experimental destroyer. Things can break down or other issues surface. Granted, the ship was excessively tested but this is the first time the YV-7220s will be sent to battle. Practice field conditions and actual battlefield conditions can be as different as day and night. Sometimes you may wish this were just a typical destroyer.

My ship is full of tension because it's an experimental craft created by a shady private military contractor loaned to the Haegemony Navy.
Technically the ship is under Haegemony authority, in effect only Ixythl Conglomerate science crew are allowed to work with any technology aboard the ship. They also have 100 PMCs to provide "security". In reality they're there because the company doesn't fully trust the Haegemony.

I'm currently waiting for everyone to post an introductory post in the IC tab.
Huh? I thought you'd do an intro post before that.
Things are currently pretty much hanging in the air.
I can write a post but it'd be a mess when we barely know anything about the setting.

@Commodore RobotI only skimmed through your NS for now but it looks okay.
You may need to actualize or flesh out some parts later but take this as you're in.
I am going for pan-continental empire, which is why I asked for various territories. Figured I can hop toward or away from the monster continent once I know what it is.
A pan-continental empire would be pretty much impossible at this day and age.
Travel takes 2-3 months by even the fastest ships, and twice of that via more heavier ships.
It may be fine if it's about you establishing a colony but maybe you rather wish to do that during the RP.
I'd like to play, and if I could reserve the region inhabited by ethnic britons (wales, brittany, and cornwall), that would be lovely.
Sure you can.
As your flag it looks much better than whatever I drew for my nation in Brimstone.
I played EU3 and EU4, which of course makes me fully qualified to partake in this.

In seriousness, though: Do we make our own nations, or adapt existing ones to fantasy? For example, if I want to play in Russia, will I be Muscovy by necessity, or would I be able to make my own country there?
You are almost completely free to make any kind of nation here, just like in almost every NRPs.
You ma need to conider what your neighbors do and adapt but something like choosing your capital city is your decision regardless.
At worst if you choose AU Russia you may have to find an excuse why you have a different capitol. Alternatively in your AU Russia the capitol was always a city different than Moscow.
And of course if you make a fully original nation then you aren't bound with any such things.

@White FeatherIs it?
Though I haven't seen you responding to @Inkwell's PM yet.
I think he's waiting for you because I already gave my okay.
@Beach BurritoInteresting how you combine the black death, undead and medical mafias together.
My only complain is that your version of black death ma doom all Europe.
I mean if Spain struggles so much then other nations in the neighborhood also require rather extreme health protection measures to stay afloat.
Or would it be something which is exclusive to Spain. It goes without saying then that all the other nations will literally avoid you like plague.
