But he's saying you cant cross it or it will kill you. Logically, for this reason you couldn't settle the thing, if it is all surrounded by the grass, as the wind would pick up and kill the settlers.

Alright, I'm sorry. But there IS the grass, and the only danger it'll be is to livestock of any kind- horses, cattle, etc., and it'll cause irritation if its kicked up, or some nasty stomach problems if too much is breathed in. All it does is prevent settlers from moving into valleys, and keeps them from planting ANY crops except in private, closed-off plots where the grass is torn out, as well as the topsoil.

It gives me less of an advantage now; I can't use horses, or livestock. But neither can an invading army.

EDIT: And know that most every settlement is on a large, steep rocky hill, or a small mountain, with the exception of Alacoth, which is on a larger mountain.

Can confirm that this grass existsHowever said grass would not exist as according to everything im finding its a GMO Hybrid grass that suddenly starting producing Cyanide

If you search 'poison grass,' you won't find it. I've already left a message for my grandma [she's 70+ and she's taking care of her half of the ranch better than we are, and voluntarily] inquiring after the name. However, it IS real. I assure you it is, I am not making it up. If I wanted to make anything up, it would be Bovril, that adorable little creature trying on the mustache in the interest check.

Okay two thingsFirst population is rolled depending on your traitsSecond, you can't just make up a grass that is poisonous to defend yourself like that change it.

It isn't made up. There is an actual grass that produces an actual dust that kills shit if someone breathes it or eats it. It's the problem of many ranches in Texas. I forget what it's called, but I can go ask my grandma about it; she's had to deal with it, and the grass is very resilient. Burning, plowing, spraying, none of it is really effective, cause it just keeps coming back. An expensive spray is all that was able to get rid of it. Otherwise, it'd get so thick that in the summer, when the wind blows, it would kill cattle in the pasture just from breathing it. Winter, Spring, and late Fall are the seasons one could travel safely; bad weather, or dangerous grass. Bad weather is mostly preferable, in which the bandits and the like will be watching. Except on the 'highways.' A dreadnaught would shoot the bandits down if they came near the highways.

The grass exists. A man told my uncle's ranchhands to herd the cattle along the side of the highway [this was a long time ago, when that was the norm] at a relaxed pace; don't hurry or push them. The side of the highway had the grass; all the cattle were dead before they even reached the other pasture.
Nations Name: The "Mountaintop Kingdom", but the official name is The Alackian Kingdom.

Flag:

Form of Government: Kingdom/Aristocracy

Describe the System: The King and Queen rule over the Mountaintop Kingdom as absolute authority; their coronation can only be completed once the people have agreed to have the prince or princess as their desired King or Queen; a foreigner cannot become a figure of authority, so if they married a prince or princess of the Kingdom, they would remain so, while the prince or princess would become King or Queen. Their rank would become "Royal Consort," and would have to rely on their married counterpart for their power. The rich, the wealthy, are all Barons or Baronesses of the different Fiefs, being five of them across the Mountaintop Kingdom.

Location on Map Desired: WIP (Somewhere northern, in mountains, 'above' everybody else.

Capital: Alacoth, the Mountaintop City
Important Settlements:
Alacoth [Central Fief] [Storage, Crafting, Mercantile],
Valacoth [Western Fiefdom] [Mining] ,
Salacoth [Eastern Fiefdom] [Mining],
Halacoth [Northern Fiefdom] [Manufacturing],
Kalacoth [Southern Fiefdom] [Mercantile,]

Black City [Between the Border and Kalacoth]
[Essentially a city of bandits, cutthroats, and other criminals that essentially are left alone who can only enter or leave the city by having a 'permit' that gains them freedom from the law, as long as the only places they prey on are the smugglers and other people who don't use the main roads, or the airspace around them]
Description: Each of the five major cities of the Mountaintops are oriented a certain direction for the benefit of the nation, for the most part. There are festivals every Solstice, and at the beginning of the year, and at the end of the year, as well as the anniversary of the current King or Queen's coronation, which is typically in the middle of the summer. The traditional foods are more hearty and filling; chicken and steak are primary, as well as potatoes [every since they found out about them, they loved them] and carrots. They start the day off with a sort of oatmeal, usually flavored something fruity, then a hearty, filling meal of meats and potatoes and the like, and then a mix of everything for dinner. Miners have oatmeal in the morning, and a mix of everything 3 times a day after breakfast. Each city has a roundabout way with it, where the main road circles all the way around, just two blocks away from the city's walls, and then two main roads branch off at the Eastern-most and Western-most areas of the city, all the way up the mountain or large hill that the city is based around, through the Inner Wall, and then up to the Keep. Every festival starts with a barrel race: Participants jump in a specially-designed barrel, and steer themselves down the curving road all the way to the bottom. Despite no reward or even an actual reason [it just kinda started a couple centuries earlier], there are always at least two hundred participants. The barrels are courtesy of the government, built to withstand a hard impact, so that if one man were to lose control and smash into a building, he might be bruised and battered, but not broken and hurt. Various villages and towns outside the Cities have their own traditions, besides the mining towns.

However, the Black City is a different story. All the cutthroats and criminals in the city were required to have a semi-expensive 'pass', renewed every year, and then they can pillage and burn anyone who doesn't come through any of the official highways of the Mountaintop Kingdom. The city itself was more like a large town built in the shadow of a mountain, with their airdocks and the like higher up where ships can easily reach them, and not have to land. Because of the few forested areas have a special grass that produces a poisonous yellow dust, most animals are lightfooted, fast, and smart. The ones that aren't die. Any armies that come through will be dead in an hour; the trampling of said grass kills them. When unknowing groups of smugglers or bandits come into the mountain valleys and end up dead, lightfooted Skypirates would come along and loot their belongings, having dropped down from rope ladders originating from their ships, hovering a distance above the treetops, should they

The soldiers I have planned are guerilla bow-wielding ambushers. Not very good in the open field. Very good in your camp, poisoning your food, water, reserves, and blowing up your gunpowder stores.

Defense-oriented army will put an end to your slipping in!
Because most of the time, you won't find them outside a town or city. If you do find them, there's an airship overhead.

No That system is to much of a pain in the ass for us. We are keeping it to those strictly defined ships, otherwise its going to become a huge pain in the ass for us to track. The system in place is already a bit painful, and its a super-simple system.

So everything is a roll-of-a-dice thing?

Pseudo-Russia with a professional and well-supplied army. Try it, I dare you.

In exchange for food and gold, I will provide support. Air support, mind you, since the soldiers I plan to use are very defensive. Professional, trained, but defensive. Complete crap at offense.
