Screeching tires sounded faintly from the valley below. Surely a human was either in an accident or just narrowly avoided one. There were still vampires about. Mithias could sense them, and they were likely wounded or hungry. The only safe human location was probably the Soldier base, and Mithias himself had proven that not to be impenetrable.

Mithias had contemplated his next move long enough. The others would find him eventually no matter where he went, so he needn't wait nor rush to reconvene. He was however, very curious about how Hank was making out at the base. He turned off the car and started moving on foot. He needed to get new information anyhow, and he could hear a great deal through walls even close to the base. He'd see what he could learn there.

Sometime later, in the dead of night, the moist ground softening the sound of his already quiet steps, Mithias approached the base. He was surprised to find it fairly unguarded. Most the lights were still damaged, many cameras were sill broken, and large sections of wall were not being patrolled. It appeared as though most of the Soldier agents had left... or were dead, and not even the Purge had moved in to replace them. Mithias lept up and climbed the wall, allowing himself a cautious stroll inside the darkened compound.

Faint voices began to fill his sensitive ears, the hum of electronics, footfalls could be felt through the walls as humans traversed the upper levels of buildings next to him. Soldier wasn't completely abandoned. After listening around the headquarters, Mithias frowned. He wasn't hearing anything about Hank or nuclear codes. Where did that child of his actually run off to? It didn't sound like Soldier had executed him. In fact, it didn't sound like Soldier had heard report from him at all.

If only he could read minds, or cast an illusion over himself, or control a human through a wall or something, then he could ask for specifics. Alas, the great and powerful immortal was stuck relying on conventional means for information. How he wished he had kept at least one inside informant at Kilo Point.

When KP fell, the vampires would take it, fortify it, stock it, and keep it as a home and center of operations for their expanding domination. But how long would it last? Could they hold an entire country under their rule? Who would be their king? Would the damn nukes ruin everything?
@RavenTLark
"Excellent." Mithias nodded and smiled to Raven. "This is going to work. We are going to do this."

Another rift-jump later, the vampire and the daughter of Hades were back at Drac's family home in the forsaken realm. I will let @supertinyking describe the state of the place when they arrive.
Damn. Mith will be really upset to learn his son died so young.
@Kurai Assassin Hey welcome back! Everyone is glad finals are over. I hope we haven't written so much that you don't know where to jump back in. I am thinking of moving my vampire to KP again, to find out if Hank told them about the nuke LIKE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO... *cough* >>

But maybe we could encounter each other there.
Cool fight scene.
Ashtar couldn't believe what had happened. Now that he was safe, relatively, he used his hands to pull off the rag mouth gag and then used his teeth to get his hands free. Grace came over to him. He looked up at her brown eyes, a face framed by long brown hair, and felt so relieved at her friendly features. It somewhat surprised her when he answered in clear English, "Thank you. Yes, I am alright." He got up, facing toward the direction Angpetu had been shooting from, looking for her. "That woman saved my life. I knew the spirits did not lead me here to die." He looked back at Grace with a genuine smile, Johnathan and Mr. Baur were behind her. The sheriff was also still present, giving Cyrus a look as he picked up dead John Henley.

"I am Ashtar, Lakota. Your people call me Sioux and give me the name Dreamwalker. I did not come to steal women and rape corn. I am a friend." Ashtar looked about, ambiguous to his incorrectly quoted verbiage. He was tall for an Indian. He was only a young man, yet strong, with a smooth, aesthetic face and hair as black as the feathers entwined in his braids. He smelled of fresh air, horses, and plants. He could have been a warrior, but lacked the terrifying facial paint and demeanor. He must have had some other primary occupation.

The sheriff came over with a knowing swagger. "Young man. I believe these belong to you. Now I'm going to have to keep this here pistol, but you can have the rest of your things back. Jus' be advised to keep that bow on your back while you're in town." He leaned in with a slightly lower voice as he handed Ashtar back his knife, bow and quiver, and bolas. "It makes the whiteman get all edgy." He started walking back to his office. "If you have any questions about the law, I'll be in my office. The last thing I need is more work to do."

The native took back his things and started putting them back on his person. "Friend, you have a kind spirit to come speak to me. That is a great blessing, and it will be repaid. I wish to know your name, and also, I wish to thank this woman above who saved my life." Ashtar stood out front, in view of the saloon, amid the several people lingering about. He stared at Angpetu, making clear he knew what she had done and was waiting for her.
Thank god.
I can post tomorrow morning. Sorry to keep ppl waiting.

Oh, and I've never heard of "War of Northern Oppression." I grew up in NY. I don't think the southern US is or was evil, not any more than the rest of humanity. I actually plan to raise a family in Tennessee.

Slavery is still evil though, as is not treating people as you would want to be treated.

Beautiful gold eyes blinked in awe. So this was Bob's solution, to hold Drac's family to the principles of its father. It was logical. It was honorable. Both of these were very strange attributes to come from Bob, but Mithias knew them. The vampire forgot his thirst and looked from the gems in his open palm to Bob, speechless. The length that Bob was going to for his child was deeply touching to witness. So Bob would to risk his own life, weakening himself even further, to show his sincerity, and to entrust Mithias with such precious cargo meant even the hapless vampire was of worth to the ancient chaos spirit.

Bob could smirk to himself. He knew the kind of soul Mithias had as he watched the vampire clutch the gems tightly, his pale expression becoming resolute. Simply being laden with such profound trust compelled the honorable to step up to the call. Mithias couldn't say no, and he would do everything in his power to deliver the message as instructed.

"This kind of bond must be protected." Mithias said, speaking of father and daughter. "It will be done as you say, Bob. I guard these with my life." Just as Mithias had done with the orb of hope, he pulled the soul-shards inside himself, temporarily, where they could not be lost or stolen. They were only shards, but even holding on to just that made Mithias feel a little better since losing Tsukune. Then he turned to Raven.

"I'm sorry I haven't explained much to you, Raven. We are now on a mission together to preserve something sacred and precious, family. I hope you understand how important it is, but even if you don't care much for it, Bob is good on his word. We're going were Drac once ruled, to where his family still lives, the forsaken realm. There's a lot of undead, so I could definitely use your help. Will you help a father take care of his daughter?"
Mithias raised a black eyebrow and nodded at Adelissa's surprisingly apt statement. She spoke an exceptional idea, and Mithias was impressed. He followed up. "Ah, so what do we need to strengthen Lucian?"
