Raven belonged to an ancient race of peoples, charged with being stewards of the universe. By the time he was born, the very forces of creation and destruction had been thrown out of balance by a malicious figure named Anexis. Anexis had discovered how to wield the powers of destruction as a weapon, resulting in innumerable calamities. Entire planets were being consumed by his darkness. Even Raven himself was taken by the darkness as a child, and was twisted into an elite assassin. He became unwilling participant in an army that sought to destroy what he was born to protect. Decades later, a fateful encounter would change everything. Raven was sent to eliminate members of his own race; a husband, wife, and their young daughter. While he was able to deal with the parents without incident, the daughter seemed to possess a very special power. One look into her eyes was all it took. In an instant, the darkness's hold over him was severed, and his free will returned. He swore to fight back against the malignant force that had once enslaved him.
He wound up being recruited by The Council, a group dedicated to fighting Anexis and restoring order to the universe. In the end, The Council was a bureaucracy; one that Raven felt he couldn't abide. Upon leaving, he took an interest in a newly reformed Shin-Ra Electric Power Company. They had powerful fighters, weaponry, and near limitless resources. He thought that if he aligned himself with them, he could eventually convince them of the threat Anexis posed, and they would join in his fight. Unfortunately, even a reformed Shin-Ra could best be described as "morally ambiguous". So, when Raven's trusted ally, Reno Cascade, defected from Shin-Ra to form the Yggdrasil Space Pirates, Raven joined him. Raven, Reno, and the rest of the Yggdrasil Crew sailed the sands and skies of their planet and beyond, causing all manner of space-piratey mischief. Then one day, Raven tragically choked on a Bagel Bite and died.
