1. I'm in school to become a physical therapist assistant! (Did it!)

2. I will quit any roleplay that has been inactive IC for one month for any reason. I've been in too many Schrodinger's RP's and I'm not doing that anymore.

Alright, looks like we have a good showing. :) I'll post the RP in about 5 hours. The choice of Pokemon is on a first-come-first-served basis, so make sure to put in your character sheet quick if you want to get your first choice!
Legends Among Us (Pokemon RP)

Thirty years passed since Team Rocket, Team Plasma, and a rash of other villainous groups were thwarted throughout the Pokemon world. The world enjoyed a period of remarkable peace and harmony between humans and Pokemon.

Then, the virus appeared.

It started with weak wild Pokemon in Viridian Forest who experienced what seemed to be a bad cold. As the disease spread to trainers' Pokemon and further into the region, the symptoms worsened. By the time anyone realized it could be a serious issue, the relentless virus had spread to other regions and was becoming a pandemic.

Many Pokemon experienced no more than flu-like symptoms. However, some Pokemon, usually those owned by trainers, became very sick and needed to be hospitalized. Though researchers across the regions have never found a cure, they did discover that the disease has the strange quality of affecting Pokemon in proportion to their strength. Thus, the dreaded virus was nicknamed the "Power Plague".

Then, the unthinkable happened. The legendary Pokemon Mew died of the Power Plague. Terrified, the legendary Pokemon of Sinnoh dared to awaken Arceus from his centuries-long slumber, hoping he could stop the virus. Arceus agreed that the legendary Pokemon must be saved, or else the world would be thrown out of balance. Unfortunately, there was no way to end the plague without causing another cataclysmic imbalance.

However, Arceus came up with another, drastic solution. If the legendary Pokemon had human bodies, they couldn't catch the virus. Thus, Arceus chose humans he felt were suited to playing host to legendary Pokemon. He intertwined the spirits of all the legendaries and their host humans. Exhausted by the effort of combining souls, Arceus returned to his deep slumber.

These "avatars" live all around the Pokemon world. They could easily pass for normal humans, but many of them have traits similar to their Pokemon, such as hair, skin and eye color, and body type. They only age one year for every ten years they live. The avatars are much stronger than the average human, but not nearly as strong as the Pokemon they represent. (Their stats are about half those of their Pokemon.)

In addition, avatars possess the moves, ability, and type(s) of their Pokemon. They also have any special abilities... and responsibilities... the Pokemon may have. Some avatars may live whatever life they choose, while others must spend their lives granting wishes, stopping some other avatars from bickering, etc.

Avatars have many different reactions to their new life. Some hide it; some flaunt it. Some resent the legendaries for putting them in this position; some fear their own mighty, untrained powers. Others delight in the chance to use their superhuman powers and long life for good... or evil. Normal humans also have mixed reactions to the avatars, ranging from worshipful adoration to hatred, from terror to apathy.

Some avatars have their own Pokemon. In fact, avatars tend to have particularly close bonds with their Pokemon. They can even telepathically communicate with Pokemon that share their exact typing.

Two years have passed since the avatars' story... your story... began. What will happen to the Pokemon world when a new crisis arises? That all depends on the Legends Among Us.

Rules

1. No godmodding (you cannot in any way control another person's character). If you attack another character, you may say where and how you attempted to attack, but the other person decides whether or not the attack hits.

2. Keep romance PG-13. Your characters are allowed to have sex, but please keep it all off-screen.

3. Please don't sign up for this RP unless you're seriously prepared to put some effort into it. I would like people to consistently post AT LEAST once a week, preferably every three days. Even if you're waiting for someone else to post, I would like you to check in out-of-character so we know who's still participating. I plan to give out occasional in-RP "prizes" to people who post consistently. :)

I plan to have one main plot and also opportunities for sandbox roleplay if there is enough interest.

Congratulations to all of you for making it through this giant wall of text! ^_^' Let me know if you're interested!
Nicolette remained quiet as she carefully considered the professor's answers. Birek seemed like a genuine man, and she trusted his statement that the scales displayed no known connection to Shadow Pokemon. She also had to agree that an object that boosts the power of Pokemon must be kept in good hands. Professor Leta seemed as good a choice as any.

Nicolette still had one question, though. She was a novice trainer, if that. And while a book shouldn't be judged by its cover, none of the other trainers seemed to have particularly powerful Pokemon, either. If these scales were so important, why didn't the professor request stronger trainers to guard it?

Claude's question differed from hers, but Birek's answer satisfied both. Yes, she had seen the way some trainers in Phenac City behaved when their Pokemon lost a battle. The woman had hoped those were uncommon occurrences, but maybe not. Nicolette frowned as she looked down at her best friend. Alphonse still seemed a little on edge while he looked at Rush's friend ball.

Nicolette's sky blue eyes widened a bit as a thought suddenly came to her. Though the scales might be completely unrelated, what if they were a missing link in the mystery of how Shadow Pokemon were created? With proper study, maybe they could improve our understanding of how to help ex-Shadows! And who better to unravel those mysteries than someone who helped purify the Shadow Pokemon?

"Professor," Nicolette began softly. "I must admit, I'm not much of a battler. If you want to find someone stronger to deliver this important item, I would understand. In any case, I don't think this is a job for just one person." The woman gulped. Then she resumed with much more resolve in her voice.

"But if you really think I'll be a valuable member of a group, then I'll do my best. I'll do whatever I can to make sure these scales stay in good hands."

Alphonse barked lightly, seemingly in agreement.
I'm here. If this ship goes down, I'll go down with it.
Nicolette looked down at her shoes and scowled slightly as Claude laughed at her. She wished she could come up with a quick comeback for what seemed like another scornful remark, but such things weren't her area of expertise. Anyway, the professor seemed to support her enthusiasm, and that lifted her spirits. His regard was more important than that of some random trainer.

All thoughts of impressing anyone ground to a halt as Professor Birek described their mission. Nicolette nervously eyed the mysterious box, unconsciously clutching the friend ball on her bag's strap as she did so. She looked down at Alphonse. The Furfrou seemed uneasy, too; some hair on the back of his neck was standing up. But Alphonse had been trained to maintain composure at all times, and he forced his gaze away from the box, though his wary attitude remained. He frowned at Nicolette's bag with concern.

"P-Professor..." Nicolette began tentatively. "Can you tell us more about this professor? What are his qualifications, and how long have you known him?" The black-haired woman sighed. "I apologize, I must sound rude. I just want to make sure something this powerful doesn't fall into the wrong hands."

"I'm sure you know at least a little about Shadow Pokemon," she continued. Nicolette kept clutching her friend ball as she spoke, as if the Pokemon inside would burst out if she didn't hold him inside. "I admit I know nothing about how they were created. I just know an evil group altered them somehow to make them like heartless fighting machines. Forgive me, it just seems like some of the scale's effects are similar to those experienced by the Shadow Pokemon."
Alphonse nudged his trainer's shoulder as the glossy lab door opened. Nicolette looked up from her book and was slightly startled to see more people present than she had thought. But the bookworm was used to this phenomenon. After the man- an assistant to the professor, maybe- finished talking, Nicolette put the book back into her grey bag and followed him into the lab, Alphonse following close behind.

The entry hall of the lab was familiar to Nicolette. She had been here twice to collect old research for the library's archives. Still, every time she came, a new fascinating trinket brought itself to her attention. Like...

"Woah!" the short-haired woman exclaimed, stopping in her tracks. Apparently Alphonse was paying attention to something else, and he walked into Nicolette's leg. The Furfrou winced for just a second, mostly from embarrassment. Then he straightened up and resumed his typical regal posture as if to say Nobody saw that. Alphonse stole another glance at the Aipom to make sure she didn't see that.

Nicolette, however, was too distracted by a rock to notice her Pokemon's plight.

"Is that a model of the Relic Stone?!" she asked the man leading them, her voice raising to a higher pitch than she realized. Her sky blue eyes sparked with excitement. "I'd pay anything to see such a marvelous piece of Pokemon history in person! Are the inscriptions on the real Relic Stone the same as..." Nicolette's voice trailed off as her cheeks turned pink.

"Err, sorry," she mumbled sheepishly. "Maybe I geeked out a little. Let's get back to whatever we're really here for. But if you or the professor have time later, I'd love to ask you more about it."
"Trainer, your presence has been requested at the Pokemon HQ lab in Orre. I, professor Birek have made a discovery that could be amazing news to both Pokemon and their trainers. I ask that when you arrive at the lab you wait for the others who have been invited. Speak of this to no one except the others when they arrive. Have a safe journey."

Nicolette Baudin sipped the last of her Earl Gray tea as she reviewed the letter. After one more moment of quiet contemplation, she neatly slipped the note into her slim bag and looked at the clock. Perfect: just on time to be early. The young woman stood up and straightened out her navy blue skirt.

“Alphonse,” she called, her soft voice laden with a marked Kalos accent. “Ready to go?”

Relaxing on a plush cushion in a corner of the living room, a Furfrou nodded. The dog Pokemon gracefully trotted to Nicolette’s side. The orange dye had begun to dull and blend with his natural hair, and a handful of frizzy curls sprung from his roughly diamond-shaped tail. It was about time for Alphonse to get another haircut, but Nicolette lacked the funds to get it professionally done, and she didn’t want to ask her parents to send more money… yet. The duo began strolling toward the lab.

Unlike some of the other summoned trainers, Nicolette has an idea of why Professor Birek might want to see her. Strange, though… she never knew the professor was part of the Shadow Pokemon rehabilitation effort. The black-haired woman frowned as she glanced at the friend ball attached to the strap of her bag. Rush nearly had a meltdown the evening before. Being around a lot of new trainers and Pokemon might further agitate him, especially if there were other ex-Shadows around. Nicolette decided it was best to keep him in his ball unless somebody really needed to see him.

As Nicolette neared the lab, she noticed two people already chatting there. The girl seemed vaguely familiar, though she couldn't put a name to the face. The woman gave each a slight nod as she passed by them, not really knowing or caring whether they received her gesture.

Nicolette sat at the opposite side of the stairs. She adjusted her glasses and pulled a thick book out of her bag. While the trainer read, Alphonse calmly sat by her side, occasionally looking at the other nearby Pokemon.
I lowered the levels of my Pokemon a little to be closer to the others who specified their Pokemons' levels.
Name: Nicolette Baudin

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Personality: Nicolette is quiet and introverted, though not particularly shy. She works hard to be organized and precise. She is a nerd with a lot of book smarts, but also naive and lacking in street smarts. She loves reading and learning new things, though sometimes she can be nervous about new hands-on experiences.

Nicolette is particularly interested in history and dreams of becoming a Pokemon Historian. One of her major weaknesses is that she expects situations to go according to how they have gone in the past, and she can become confused or flustered by unexpected outcomes.

She is interested in raising Pokemon as friends, but she doesn't have much experience battling. Nicolette views battles as a way to observe and contribute to a long-standing tradition of friendly competition honoring wars of the distant past. She doesn't dream of becoming a great competitive trainer, but she does give battling a try on occasion, largely because it seems to make Rush happy.

Nicolette currently works part-time as a librarian's assistant while raising her two Pokemon. She is comfortable and content with her life. Content, but not happy. While part of her wants to stay safe at home with her books, another part has always craved a greater purpose, to play a larger role in the history that future generations will study.

History: Nicolette was raised as an only child in a fairly privileged and sheltered home. She spent most of her childhood studying and reading. Thus, she never had many friends, and she considered the family Furfrou Alphonse to be her best friend.

Nicolette has always been particularly interested in Pokemon-related history. Part of her yearned to set out on grand adventures to witness history first-hand. However, she doubted her abilities to handle the perils of the wide world.

Nicolette finally took her chance when she learned that a major conflict had just ended in the Orre region, and patient trainers were needed to help rehabilitate Pokemon from a mysterious condition called Shadow. She was matched with Rush the Electrike, largely because the organizers thought another canine-like Pokemon would help him adjust. Since then, Nicolette has aimed to stop being a passive witness to Pokemon history and start becoming a part of it. The problem is, she's not sure how to accomplish this goal...

Home town: Camphrier Town, Kalos, but has been living in Phenac City, Orre, for two years

Starting Pokemon:

Alphonse Rene Gagnon IV: Furfrou; male; mid-thirties; docile nature; level 6; attacks: Tackle, Growl, Sand-Attack; Alphonse comes from a line of carefully bred Contest Pokemon, and he's proud of that lineage even though he has never won a Pokemon Contest himself. He has been the Baudin family pet since before Nicollete was born. He is calm, serious, and level-headed, always preferring to solve problems with words and wits. Following the rules is important to him, and he considers violence outside a formal battle setting to be disgracefully rude. Secretly, he's a little afraid of battling, though he won't let anyone know it. Alphonse has developed great patience (but also some vanity) through years of grooming fads. However, justice is important to him, and he will argue and/or fight fiercely against injustice, whether the offender is friend or foe. Though he's not very good at expressing affection outwardly, Alphonse cherishes his role as a father figure for Rush... troublesome though the Electrike may be.

Rush: Electrike; male; older teen; bold nature; level 12; attacks: Electro Ball (egg move), Tackle, Thunder Wave, Leer; Rush was born to a Shadow Houndour father and a non-shadow Electrike mother. Cipher turned him into a Shadow Pokemon at just a few weeks old. Rush was trained to be a heartless fighting machine, and that's the only purpose in life he has ever known. When Cipher fell, he and some other Shadow Pokemon were purified and sent to live with "rehab" trainers. Rush is still getting used to his new life, and many things about non-shadow life confuse him. He is still easily angered, aggressive, and quick to fight. However, he is learning how to be curious and care about others. Rush is incredibly brave and feels most comfortable on the battlefield. His greatest fear is disappointing his "masters" Nicolette and Alphonse, a fear he faces every day in the attempt to learn how to be "normal".
