1. I'm in school to become a physical therapist assistant! (Did it!)

2. I will quit any roleplay that has been inactive IC for one month for any reason. I've been in too many Schrodinger's RP's and I'm not doing that anymore.

Mesalon Gym

Ty smiled at the women's well wishes.

"Thanks," he replied. "Don't worry, I'll make it fast so we can catch up to the others, haha." It was a shame the big group had to be split up right after he met them. He wished he and Sophia could've seen each other's battles. But he had been expecting to take this gym challenge alone, so any amount of company was good.

"I'll be ready soon, I think," Ty answered Lan, faltering a bit in his confidence. He didn't add the detail that he sent his Pokemon off to the Pokemon Center by themselves because he was too worried about missing an awesome battle. That was... probably a dumb decision, in hindsight.

Ty thought about walking toward the Pokemon Center to meet up with his Pokemon. But Reaper was expecting to meet him at the gym, and the flashy bug might be too busy zooming toward his goal to notice the small speck of a trainer walking the other way down the road. Besides, the group of trainers got split up unexpectedly, and someone might mistake his brief absence for yet another person wandering away from the group.

So, Ty stood and waited awkwardly right outside the gym's door. It was super boring. Ty watched a Caterpie crawl up a tree until it disappeared into the canopy. Then he rifled through his backpack to double check if he had enough snacks for humans and Pokemon alike. Then he read the sign near the door that described the gym challenge, just for something to do. Halfway down the sign, his glazed eyes sharpened into shock.

Just then, a faint buzzing sound quickly grew louder. Ty turned around to see Reaper hit the ground in an epic three-point landing. The Scyther smirked and spit Hunk's pokeball onto the dirt. Then his expression changed to a serious frown as he noticed the trainer's pale look.

"Hi... yeah... uh, we need to have a talk," Ty said, pulling out Medic's pokeball. Soon, all three Pokemon looked expectantly at Ty. He knelt down to meet most of them at their level, save for Reaper who now towered over them all.

"So, I screwed up,” the leather-clad man began, fiddling with his eyebrow piercing. “I mixed up this gym and Unova’s Normal gym. I thought we needed two Pokemon.”

Ty was never quite sure how well Pokemon could understand the intricacies of human language, so he held up two fingers to illustrate the crux of his message. He shook his head, then held up three fingers.

“But we need three.” Ty lowered his gaze for a second. Then everyone looked at the tiny Igglybuff.

“I know you’re not supposed to be a battler,” the blond continued solemnly. “It’s- it’s on me, I goofed up. We all got so excited, and this might be our only chance! ...What I’m saying is, worst case scenario, I might need you to battle. I’m sorry.”

The Igglybuff’s big brown eyes stared at the trainer in dutiful focus as he spoke. They somehow grew even larger as the situation dawned on her. Medic frowned at the ground and shrunk back for a couple seconds. Then the ball of pink fluff took a deep breath, looked up to her trainer, and nodded. Ty grimaced. Medic looked like she might burst into tears soon, and Ty didn’t wait around to find out.

“It’ll be ok,” Ty said emptily as he rushed to return Medic to her pokeball. He looked back to his other two Pokemon and forced a smile. This was such a downer right before the big battle. Everyone needed to get their hype back.

“That just means both of you will have to be even awesomer than ever before!” Ty shouted, pumping a fist in the air. “You two are such epic BEASTS, we’ll still win this if we give it everything we’ve got!”

Hunk yelled a rowdy battle cry and hoisted his log into the air, instantly re-pumped. Then he gently massaged Ty’s shoulders like he was a boxer about to go into the ring. Ty chuckled and did the same for his smirking fighting type. Reaper didn’t seem so convinced, but he gave a focused nod before both Pokemon were returned to their pokeballs.

Ty made his best attempt to regulate his breathing and get his head back in the game as he headed back toward the arena. This was too much of an emotional roller coaster before noon.

“Okay!” Ty shouted, bursting through the door with what he imagined to be a dramatically tough flair. “Let’s do this!”

@LuckyBlackCat
@LuckyBlackCat If reserving Pokemon is still a thing, I would like to reserve Litleo/Pyroar and Yamper/Boltund
@LuckyBlackCat Ohey, looks like we might get to do this thing. :D Could/should I timeskip a bit to right before the battle?

As the Universe hath willed it
Denise
Medical Anthropologist

No, no, no. They were doing it all wrong!

Denise remained respectfully, uncharacteristically quiet throughout the meeting with Holy Vei. Not because there was nothing useful for her to say, but because everyone else kept jumping in haphazardly. Taking quick notes of the inscription-covered surroundings and the slow, deliberate way Holy Vei chose to speak, it seemed her initial impression of this species as a prime example of an energetically spinning throat chakra was correct. Each word the members of the Prize said… and perhaps more importantly, each word they didn’t say… would be under far more detailed scrutiny than any human could hope to imagine.

The medical anthropologist listened in increasing dismay as the rest of the crew jumped in with dully direct answers to the grand alien’s spoken questions. Spending too much time on denying the divine being’s observations. Being utterly too vague about all the dazzling things the I.S.A. could offer.

Denise had much experience with confronting stubborn ‘smart’ people who wanted nothing more than to ignore all her wisdom. She had learned how to win some of them over to the real wonderful truth of light and healing. With her unique experience, the Lifebringer knew EXACTLY what to say to turn this disastrous meeting around. She opened her mouth and…

Well, she never got to say it, as the Holy Vei just kicked them out of the planet. Looks like nobody would ever know.

Denise couldn’t help but allow a bitter tinge to permeate her aura of peace that day. As the crew were briefed, she kept her gaze down to avoid letting slip a caustic glare toward each and every member of that rash delegation team. As everyone began meandering back to their work stations, the frustrated Divon spritzed a few calming sprays of eucalyptus oil around her prime meridian and ordered a virgin White Russian to take some of the edge off.

But then, fate stepped in, as it is wont to do. It seemed one of Havi’s inhabitants was gravely injured and rushed into the medical bay. That was… excellent news! Hooray!

Denise put down her beverage and unzipped a couple of her emergency kit’s many pouches. Then she booked it toward the medical bay, hoping she would get there before any of those way-too-literal doctor types could ruin yet another chance to bring her beautiful healing techniques to this yearning people!

…For about thirty seconds. Then, heaving for breath, she remembered that miracles are not to be rushed. Denise power-walked the rest of the way to the medical bay with an invigorating sense of purpose.
Btw all the NPCs I have created for the survey team are free to play with, I don't really care about them, feel free to play with them or even kill them off if you feel the need

As the local red shirt expert, that snooty head biologist looks like a good candidate. Maybe I'll take him over next mission if nobody decides to kill him off in this one.
Heya, I'm alive. Both jobs crept up their hours and were stupid. But for now I only have one of the jobs. I will do my best to catch up and post something by Saturday at the latest. I'll think up... some reason to explain the absence IC.
I just realized I wrote 'hydrogen dioxide' when I meant 'dihydrogen oxide.'

...Oh well, I'm keeping it that way.

Medical Anthropologist

In a small lab near a corner in the lower bowels of the Prize, a machine whirred loudly in a flurry of titrations. It was a shame the lab was outfitted with some of the most outdated, least efficient equipment on the ship. But Denise had grown accustomed to such inconsiderate treatment from the ISA. They would ALL see the true value of her work sooner or later.

For now, the Medical Anthropologist pushed those thoughts aside to make some calculations as quickly as Divonly possible. The secretion she had purchased on Deep Solar 3 could degrade in its harmon quotient in such a spacetime-jarring event as going through a wormhole unless she prepared its amplified isotope right away.

Just as the blonde woman noted the number of succussions achieved so far, a notification blared through her communicator stating that the Prize would enter Kepler’s Passage in ten minutes. Denise nearly cursed, but she paused and corrected her frown into a smile. She had been planning for a 1000c tincture, but she supposed 800c would have to do. Perhaps some alien species they would meet would fare better with a lower potency. Everything happens for a reason.

As the time drew near, the titration and agitation machine shut off automatically after the reprogrammed 800 mixings of solute droplets and deionized hydrogen dioxide solution. Denise winced slightly as the still-hot vial burned her fingers, but there was just no time to wait for it to cool. She capped the solution in the one large vial for the time being and admired her handiwork: a harmoniously crystal-clear 800c homeopathic tincture of the sebaceous secretions from a Plizothian Arsenica-Snouted Adder. A valued remedy for symptoms of cancer, radiation poisoning, itchy feet, Ignean Crusting Disease, and death.

Denise held the rare tincture tightly in her hand as she made her way to a the nearest turbulence chair. She strapped herself in for preparation for who-knows-what kind of wormhole turbulence just in time. The lights of the lower deck dimmed as the ship went through never-before-experienced strain, causing strands of Denise’s hair to display their faint blue-violet glow. The enlightened being closed her eyes and smiled peacefully, meditating as the life energy of countless stars washed through the ship in record time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Denise smiled serenely as she listened to Captain Carabello’s briefing. Her official role on the starship had been small so far, the most interesting being a chance to check on the health of some rescued hostages, one of which was lucky to receive a generous free sample of Denise’s premature balding remedy. Of course, the abundance of free time had given the Divon an opportunity to prepare a surplus of treatments and hold some consultations with a few crew members, and she did not resent any such opportunities the Universe provided. But now that the Prize was about to meet some unknown intelligent species, it was truly the Medical Anthropologist’s time to shine!

“It will be an honor to join the team meeting this blessed Holy Vei,” Denise declared in her wispy voice. She stood up with a smile, making slow and graceful hand gestures as she spoke.

“For those whom I have not yet had the pleasure to meet, I am Denise Bploopcphyer, Lifebringer of the Sixth Realm and Medical Anthropologist. As a studier and participant in hollistic medicine myself, I will seek to promote respect, understanding, and the pursuit of truth on all sides. I would love to exchange knowledge with these fascinating people and learn how their wisdom can amplify the lives of the I.S.A., just as our wisdom can amplify their lives.”

The round woman’s gaze wandered away for a few seconds, dazzled by the brilliant blue glow of the massive foliage. It was not unlike her own hair, actually. The people here must have no problem with the kind of mental fungus that so often plagues the human body’s third eye, as a possible remedy seems to be filtering into the air around them at all times.

Speaking of…

“If I may add one insight, upon first glance it seems this species may be flooded with a large influence of the fifth and sixth chakras, as suggested by the prevalence of blue and blue-violet color on their planet. To explain briefly, these chakras preside over speech and intellect. That is, assuming the chakras in this species conform to the alignment in most known humanoids… but I have a good hunch this is the case. This may explain their brevity in speech – it is important for them to choose their words carefully and efficiently. If we are to make a good impression, we should strive to approach everything from a logical and intellectual standpoint, and to speak only after careful consideration. It is especially vital to avoid the natural human inclination toward complex emotional motivations, as a culture originating from a greener planet.”

Denise gave a satisfied nod and took her seat.
Actually, since she has been there longer than Mason, he might have already had to repurpose the lab to its intended purpose.

Denise: "Have you tried urine therapy?"

Former captain: "Oh... oh crap, we need to hire a real doctor right now."

And that's how Mason got this job.
