Name: Phoebe Jones

Age: 18. An apocalypse baby, whose knowledge of the pre-war world comes from stories.

Gender: Female

Nomadic or sedentary: Nomadic for now. Phoebe's just left her family to explore the world, and is looking for a good place to live for a while.

Weapons: Phoebe uses a .32 caliber rifle built by her grandfather, the skilled hunter who guides her family in their new way of life. She hates using it, since it's loud, dangerous, and heavy. But, she's well-trained in using it, and has lots of ammo. Still, she prefers her pistol.

Skills: Phoebe is trained in using a rifle to hunt herd animals.

Any unusual traits? Does it show physically?: Phoebe's family is both cursed and gifted with generalized hypertrichosis; a condition that causes hair to grow longer and thicker over the entire body, except for the soles of their feet and hands, their lips, and mucous membranes (nose, tongue, etc.). In the pre-war world, this only served as a curse to draw unwanted attention from strangers. "Hey look, it's that Werewolf family! Eew!" Now, it's a blessing, as the "fur" warms them up in this new, cold world, and provides natural camouflage. In Phoebe's case, the hair is tan; a random mutation from the usual black color. (The tan color comes from the radiation; the hypertrichosis is genetic.)

Appearance: Phoebe is 5'5", 110 pounds, a little on the light side. As stated above, she is covered head-to-toe in thick, tan "fur". Underneath that fur, Phoebe is the stark white skin color you see on cats and dogs, since the little sunlight in this world can't reach her skin. Peeking out from the fur are pale blue eyes. She wears plain white shirts, a cargo jacket, and jean pants: practical clothing.

Brief Personality: Phoebe's quiet and shy, one who'd rather observe than speak up. In her giant, raucous family, that's unusual. Still, she much prefers the company of others than being alone, as that's what she's used to. (I'm really not good at describing someone's personality.)

Background: Phoebe was born to a large family: three generations, who, thanks to her paternal grandfather, thrived in this post-war world. With his hunting experience, he guided them away from the irradiated cities and out to the wild, following Ted Turner's giant herd of buffalo. The buffalo mutated, breeding with local cows to create a mixed species of rhino-sized beefalo. This herd migrated around Montana and North Dakota, eating all the grass in one area, then moving on. They were easy prey, and quickly her family armed themselves with rifles and took to living off of them, like modern Native Americans. Two years after the war, Phoebe was born to her mother, a stranger who joined the family, and her father, a wildman at heart with hypertrichosis. Phoebe was mutated just slightly: her hair was tan, unlike the usual black coloration. Other babies in the family were born with unusual colors as well. Phoebe's best friend and first cousin, Jack, was born with stark white hair. One kid was born with thin, lilac hair, and yet another was born with no hair at all. The family accepted all their funny-looking children, simply glad no one was born with any serious mutations, like some afflicted children. (Phoebe remembers a horror story involving a child born with no elbows or knees.)

As a child, Phoebe was tasked with prepping the family's tent-town for their constant migrations following the beefalo herd. At twelve, Phoebe was given her pistol and taught how to shoot. At fiveteen she was given one of her grandfather's hand-made rifles and participated in the weekly hunts. Phoebe liked hunting, but she greatly preferred a pistol. It was easier, quieter, and in her opinion required more skill, as the only game a pistol can bag are fast-moving targets, like birds and rabbits. But, a rabbit could only feed one person, not the fifty-odd members of her "tribe."

At eighteen, Phoebe was given the option to go out on her own by her grandfather. Her mother hated that idea, since this was the safest place they knew of (all their visitors spoke of terrors in the cities, and horrible monsters ravaging the countryside.) but Phoebe chose to go. She liked living with her family, but she wanted to make her own choices, and her own life, and maybe even meet a nice man. (Although the idea of starting a family sounded terrible. She does not like children.)

I've been thinking

I might start Isam off on a small sailboat

like he found one abandoned in a harbor and was like "well this is mine"

he's not very good at sailing because iraq isn't exactly abundant with oceans

so he mainly sticks near the shore

i'm tell you guys this because i didn't feel like writing it into my bio

Ajairu will probs be running across rooftops, free-run parkouring, and killing mutant wasps along th way. Maybe he'll see your characters boat in the distance, and then sneak over to you with mad ninja skills

which begs the question

where exactly does this rp take place?

obviously somewhere near water and city ruins

because those are two things that humans love to congregate around

Character starting points are all up to you, as long as the story is set in America.

I'd be down for somewhere coastal. The Pacific North-West would be cool I think, or maybe around the Great Lakes? Someplace around the Gulf Coast would be interesting too, the global cooling wouldn't completely wreck its growing season.

Well my character (if accepted) started out in North Dakota, so either side of the US is okay. I'd prefer Florida or Southern California, since I'm more familiar with those areas. Plus, if the temperature dropped significantly (like five or more degrees) those areas would be more populated.

Name: David Chrystein

Age: 31

Gender: Male

Nomadic or sedentary: Nomadic

Weapons: A 1911 .45 ACP pistol, but with ammunition being a valuable commodity, he avoids using it. Two trench knives, one has a broken blade. Various things stuffed into pockets that could be used as throwing knives, blunt force objects, or distractions.

Skills: David is a scavenger, always on the look out for things that might be useful or valuable. Fighting over scraps being commonplace for him, he's become adept at fighting. It's a very sloppy and merciless way of fighting, but better to have them presumed dead with broken legs rather than alive and coming after him. Scavenging city centers made stealth and patience as necessity. He's very good at hiding himself, despite his height, and very good at moving relatively silently, despite the weight of his clothes.

As a result of his scavenging, he's had to deal with merchant types a lot. While he doesn't have the most discerning eye beyond "it's useful, take it" he is becoming good at analyzing an item and judging its potential value for trade.

Any unusual traits? Does it show physically?: His skin has become extremely pale, almost translucent, and easy to burn. It offers no benefit that David can see, besides maybe blending in the snow if he decided to strip naked. As a result, he keeps himself covered at all times.

Appearance: David is extremely pale, though it doesn't really show, considering he doesn't expose any skin. He's fairly tall at 6'4" and with lack of a constant source of nourishment, he's very thin, giving him a gaunt, lanky appearance. Beneath that there are some vestiges of muscle borne of desperation in the fight to survive. He wears a black balaclava, showing signs of wear and tear, with heavily tinted, and heavily scratched, goggles completing the cover on his face. Tufts of unkempt black hair can sometimes be seen sticking out. The elastic of the goggles have long since snapped, so he has them tied on with a piece of cloth. He tries to mostly wear leather, as it is most resistant to tearing. Leather gloves cover his hands, covering up what the sleeves of his faded heavy leather trench coat doesn't. The coat has a few tears here and there, being in use for years, that were sloppily stitched up or patched with scraps found from scavenging. He hadn't had any luck finding leather pants so he wears thick cargo pants tucked into heavy industrial steel toed boots. Strapped to his back is a well used, strong rucksack.

Brief Personality: He is extremely blunt in social interactions, though he doesn't speak much, speaking when he has to, preferring to remain silent and listen when he doesn't. He is very pragmatic, locking away emotions for the sake of survival. He looks at situations logically, and if doing something is more conducive to his survival, he will do it, even if it means stepping on the toes of others or sticking a knife in their backs.

Background: David was in school when news of wars reached his ears, he never paid attention to current events. His father took him out of school, telling him to pack up, before taking the family to a shelter he had built. The man was one of those "doomsday planners" David had made fun of when he saw some on TV. Only, the news echoing through the radio showed that more than ever, his father was not crazy. Six months, they stayed in that shelter, David's father had stockpiled many things. Food, water, small luxuries, ammunition, feminine necessities for his mother and sister, etc. But the food and water didn't last as long as they hoped and they were forced to pack up and venture out. Things went relatively smoothly for the first few days, until David was sent into a nearby town to scavenge for food, or anything else useful, while his family set up camp. Upon returning, he found three more people than there should have been. Two dead, along with his parents, and a third torturing his sister.

How long the man had with his sister, he didn't know, but the bullet rang out David's first kill. His second kill wouldn't be far behind. His sister was begging for him to kill her. Her broken body shivering on the cold ground. The vision of it tortured David for years to come. He didn't even hear his second shot. He quickly packed up what he could from the camp and left, sparing one last look for his dead family.

Years passed as David wondered the wasteland, scavenging what he could, trading when he had the chance. Much of his ammunition was traded for food or water, or containers to hold them, too much was used to defend himself or his prizes from successful scavenging trips. But slowly, he was learning to survive in this new world. He would join groups here or there, but would leave just as easily when the situation called for it.

David was no longer sure how much time had passed since his stay in his father's shelter, but he was surviving this wasteland, one way or another.

All above CS are fine. I was thinking we can just all decide where we would want to meet up. I like to start in cities like NYC when it comes to RPGs like these. I'm familiar with the East Coast but let's try to agree on a place where all or some of us could meet up in.

Might be good if some of us decided to be already together. That way we don't get eight different stories going on at once.

As for a starting point, I'd say any unnamed city ruins would be fine, just describe what's around it. Major real life cities would be all but unrecognizable anyway if a nuclear war happened. NYC would be a prime target, it being an economic hub for the US, so it would probably be pretty bombed out, if not just a big crater.

My character is set in a rather small town near a forest, but that can be anywhere. I can have him make his way to most starting places with no problem.

I'd like to know at least what state they are in

that way i can research what kind of plants and wildlife they'd be living off of

and know what the climate and terrain would be like

Someone suggested the great lakes area.

I vote that

I recommended the Great Lakes, but the biggest problem with it is that it'd be really, really cold. Being directly on the lakes would help a bit, but it'll still be ridiculously cold and rough

With a colder environment, I'd recommend the Southern half of the US. I'm very familiar with the Southeast, including the animals, plants, and normal climate.
