Standard "anime comedy" is the worst part of anime for me. Unless it's batshit crazy or mature stuff.

And I think I already see the best the genre can offer in random gifs and such, so...

I'm satisfied staying away from it.

Comedy in anime is so much more funnier when there's context, or a reason WHY the character is doing something.

Anything that isn't a harem comedy.

I'd probably recommend Excel Saga. It's very dated, and it's humour is fairly 'lulrandom', but it isn't totally awful in that regards.

Technically Tenchi Muyo is "Harem" but it's not raunchy or anything.

Full Metal Panic (FUMOFFU or something) is probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I guess there's a serious version and then they transplant the characters into a goofing-off season, or something? Idunno, I didn't really dig into it or anything, but holy shit though.

Beat me to it.

Full Metal Panic is a mecha-action anime with a good amount of humor alongside some really heavy moments. The first season ended with the beginning of summer, and evil being recently vanquished. The perfect setup for FUMOFFU, season 1.5, which is all humor. It's over-the-top, often makes fun of other serious animes, and does not require you to have seen the first season.

The series has a second season that gets really fucking dark, but is equally awesome. I would highly recommend.



EDIT: To give you more understanding, the series is essentially about a young mercenary, who was essentially raised by freedom fighters, to infiltrate a high school and protect an important young girl. He has absolutely no understanding of a normal social life, and solves everyday problems with military logic.
