I'm surprised you implemented a rating system, Mahz. The Guild functioned just fine without one for years and people were (in)famous based on merit and reputation alone. We don't need numbers for that.
I actually second this notion. I do appreciate all of the work being done to the site, but a rating systems seems unnecessary, and more socially damaging. The system we have now, as Hank stated, about merit and reputation is a dynamic that I'd be sad to see change.

I agree with this, too. The lack of a rating system was always something I enjoyed about this site, because users had to get to know each other rather than just click a button and see who is helpful or funny. I feel like it's unnecessary to change the merit/reputation system we've already been using.

Not to be that guy, but if you don't like it, don't use it. I don't see the problem with having the option to use it.

I'm someone ambivalent about the rating system, but it's not as much of a matter as other ordeals. However, if I can make a suggestion, I believe the rating should be in the bottom left, or some other place than take up the entirety of the bottom of the post. It looks a bit unappealing, taking up so much space, when it's only a few characters.

I think yall will be surprised how little people care about the aggregate numbers on the user profile. Making guesses at what could possibly go wrong is a waste of energy. If you aren't judging people by their aggregate ratings, then why do you assume it's an issue everyone else is going to struggle with but you? When I first split the roleplaying forums into Free/Casual/Advanced, people were bemoaning the fate of the Guild -- that the roleplaying category would collapse into a faction war. Yet it was the people clamoring about the possibility of "elitism" that were fulfilling their own prophecy. Let's move on.

I don't. I just think it's entirely unnecessary. I'm sure I'll get used to it in due time, as I've gotten used to everything else, but my initial reaction is basically "y u do dis".

I'd just like to say, ii like the rating system, because sometimes I quote someone just to go "Excellent idea" But, moving on. I don't know if this is a bug, or if this is just my bad formatting. But every so often, my link to peoples character sheets in my roleplays goes screwy and just takes me to the IC, rather the the players character. I don't mind, but formatting it is a long, tiring job. What I do is how I have always done it, and I've never had issues before. Basically, direct (Or permalink or whatever it is by the view raw button) link to the character sheet, and then a url format. Has something changed since the many new updates?

I don't have to. By successive quotes, I have succeeded in propagating the dancing bananas anyway! MUAHAHAHAHA! Anyways, this is soooooooooooooooooo off topic, so I'll stop now.

Again, I agree with Hank here. I also feel what's the point of having a userbase if you're not going to garner public opinion on big changes, like a ratings system? Adding a front page poll for even a week would be able to provide a general idea on the feelings of the guild as a whole, instead of just a few individuals.

In my opinion, an optional rating system is definitely not a big change. To me, a big change is something that would radically change the forum, and/or couldn't possibly be ignored. Ratings don't really change anything, and someone can simply not use them if they prefer not to. I do agree with putting a poll up for larger, potentially controversial features, though.
