BE WARNED THEIR BE SPOILERS This thread is for those fans of J.R.R. Tolkiens Middle-Earth and Peter Jacksons interpetation of that world. We can discuss anything about the world of the books and movies here. I'll start with my favorite Races of Middle-Earth and why I like them. Dwarves: As Bilbo stated before the battle in the third Hobbit movie Dwarves have many faults but their positive traits more than make up for their negative ones in my opinion. I believe you would never find a better friend then in a Dwarf. They donot beat around the bush or speak in riddles like Elves and they're more loyal then most men. I like their weapons and armor more so then that of the Elves or Men. Hobbits: Gandalf said in the Fellowship that you can learn everything you need to know about them in a day but despite seventy years they can still surprise you. You can't judge what a Hobbit is until you put them in the fire so to speak. They can be surprisingly brave and are crack shots as seen when Bilbo is throwing rock at the end of Battle of Five Armies, when Merry and Pippin are throwing rocks from atop Treebeard in Two Towers, and in one of the books (I can't remember if its Fellowship or Hobbit) its written that in The Shire wildlife know to avoid a Hobbit with a bow or slingshot... or something like that I can't remember exactly what it said. Men of Rohan: They're like Vikings with horses only they don't go raiding. Brave and skilled they seem like an interesting group of peple.

Only recently have I got into the world of Arda which is kind of depressing really, but I have been catching up slowly. I just recently bought and read The Silmarillion and The Hobbit, and currently on The Fellowship of the Ring (just a bit passed halfway). I also have the other books in the Lord of the Ring series. As well as Unfinished Tales. I watched all the Hobbit films and also watched Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. So far I am really enjoying the ride. My favourite tale by far is: The Tale of Beren and LĂșthien. Truly an amazing story, I love it.

I prefer Elves, every Elf looks feminine.

Let's be real here, Elevs are the best for three main reasons: Great eyesight They live forever Remarkably sharp instincts If men and elves had a war, the elves would win.

Fave race is elves, I agree with the majority here. I'm also partial to humans, however, and I enjoy the spirituality/lore associated with both races. Though Idk if they'd always win in a war against men; men outnumber elves and aren't swayed as much by the world around them. Wizards are cool too...Basically I just don't like the dwarves I guess, haha. Much of what I've learned about Arda and its lore was learned in a Sci-Fi and Fantasy Philosophy class I took in my first year of college. Silmarillion was a required read. It was great. So far, I've only only read that and the Hobbit, however. I need to reread the Hobbit since it's been years, then I want to start on the Lord of the Rings. All these years and I've only seen the first two movies... Also this is on-topic but off-topic: my town in Animal Crossing is called Silmaril, lol.

I'm very partial towards elves like a lot of other people because I like their kind of mysterious aura. Not much is known about them and most is left to the reader's imagination, which both irks me to hell and back and fascinates me. I find their biggest flaw, in my own personal opinion as a reader, to be their "holier-than-thou" attitude. Sure, the dwarves have some too but I find them and Men a bit more bearable. Plus, the elves and Ents both speak in riddles, which can tend to get frustrating. Or maybe it's just Tolkien's style of writing? As much as I love the story and plot, I can't say I dig the way he writes. Too vague for me, though if he were more descriptive, just The Fellowship of the Ring would be a 700-page book.
