The city of Tokyo was, as usual, bustling with energy- students moving to and fro just as the classes of the day were about to start. The everyday chatter of people on the trains, on the streets, at work, at school... It was business as usual. The same went for most cities across Japan at this time of day, and as usual, the people would go on with their everyday lives.
Some particularly perceptive people might have noticed it then, but a small earthquake had begun rocking the small archipelago. Of course, this was a natural occurrence, given Japan's location- at least until it began to escalate. The earthquakes picked up in intensity, and people left and right began to duck for cover. And as they did so... They came.
Demons.
It just so happened that on this day, a certain program would be released on the internet- one by the name of 'Cortensia'. As the demons began to spawn, those few, those lucky few who had the file on them, in some way shape or form, found themselves facing a single message.
"Do you believe your time has come?
Is your death inevitable?"
Those who had selected "no" found themselves able to bring forth those very demons that threatened to kill them, while others who quietly accepted their fate found themselves ripped asunder.
Those who survived the initial onslaught found themselves unable to contact anyone not in Japan; while communications within the country were still up, it seemed as if everything else has simply been wiped away, as if it had never existed.
Are you one of those few who lived to see the next day? Will you fight to see the end of this incident, or will you stand by idly and let the world you know be thrown asunder for naught?
1. No Mary Sues/Gary Stus. I don't have to explain this, do I?
2. No powerplaying. Conflicts will probably occur, yes, but I don't want anyone no-selling fights.
3. Since I'm gating power (in order to make sure people don't grind like crazy in order to just instawipe every boss and get like... Lucifer before the middle of the RP or something), available demons will be limited before plot progression occurs.
4. A Fate system (detailed below) is in play; it is similar to the one present in Devil Survivor 2, but also shares some similarities. Read up on 'em- you'll want to, for sure.
5. PG-13. I mean, yeah, there's gonna be blood and death and stuff (because... Well, SMT) but no gore/nudity/explicit violence/etc;.
6. Machinegunning posts is no good. I don't want two people dominating the progression of the RP because it sucks the fun out of things really quickly.
7. Unapproved forms are to be approved by me first before being placed into the Character tab.
8. No trading demons. The program's weird like that. Characters do have a small database used to store up to 6 demons in reserve, though.
9. Macca's the currency used now, since yen's basically worthless at this point. Macca is dropped by demons and can be stolen off any human unfortunate enough to find their wallet missing.
Similar to the Fate System of Devil Survivor 2, survivors of the initial cataclysm will have the ability to interact with one another. These interactions, both good and bad. Enough interaction will lead to developments in the abilities for both sides, which are as follows.
Clock 1: Damage reduction from a single type of attack (excluding Almighty); this bonus is chosen by the controller upon character creation. Subsequent Fate 1s decrease the amount of damage taken from this attack.
Clock 2: Skill cracking (more details below) a skill will allow both characters access to that skill. Of course, they need to have the capacity to use it in order to use it.
Clock 3: A special demon (which is not chosen by either side; I'll keep the details anonymous to prevent minmaxing) will be available for fusion. I'll only tell the receiving party of their new option; I'd ask that you keep the information confidential, mainly because I want to see relationships between characters develop naturally.
Clock 4: SDTP enabled. In other words, if a character is in danger your character can shoot over a demon to aid them temporarily, regardless of location. It's only usable once every three days, so be conservative.
Clock 5: Another special demon will be available for fusion, with the same criteria as above.
Clock will not decay by any means, but not all positive interactions will lead to Clock rising.
As in the Devil Survivor series, characters will need to obtain skills from other demons and/or humans. Cracking will play out a bit differently in this RP.
1. The skill to be cracked must be identified and have been used against the cracker at least once.
2. More than one person can attempt to crack a skill; without Clock 2, though, only the person who finishes off the demon can crack the skill.
3. Only one skill can be cracked every 4 hours. It takes time for the program to restabilize after a crack and, while not offline, cannot be used to crack any more skills for the duration thereafter. This does not include cracking failures.
4. Certain skills (such as any signature moves like Alice's Die for Me!) cannot be cracked.
Demon fusion plays out as it has in previous incarnations of the SMT series- you take two demons, you smash 'em together in a built-in program in Cortensia and out comes a new demon! There are a few changes and limitations in this RP, though.
1. The resultant demon is, unlike most games, almost always individualized- what one person creates can be completely different from what another person can.
2. The demon created has a maximum base level equal to the average base level of the two parent demons plus one. You can go check on the SMT wiki on what demon is what level- current levels don't factor into this.
3. Once a demon is fused, it can be recorded in the Demon Compendium, a built-in database which allows characters to summon demons they've used in the past back... At a price, of course.
4. Each child demon can inherit a single skill from each 'parent' demon, save for unique skills (once again, things such as Alice's Die for Me!).
5. I'll notify a player if a fusion accident occurs- in these scenarios, the resulting demon might be incredibly different from the expected result- it might be significantly higher or lower than the expected outcome.
Unlike Demon Auctions, these Demon Stores only allow for the direct purchase of demons for the amount of Macca that they cost. They also sell basic necessities such as food and water, as well as weaponry to fight with. Prices vary by quality and supply/demand.
