Karen drove the military ambulance across the river and once on the bridge marveled over the fact that only two vehicles seemed to have been abandoned on it's span. This was different from other river crossings she'd made and often found blocked by vehicles that had been abandoned in the panic.

She was happy with her discovery so she hummed a cheerful tune to herself as she drove along.

Karen was a little nervous about being alone in a world populated by the moving dead and wandering bands of feral humans but riding in the up armored Humvee gave her some security. She liked being safe but she also liked to help people which was why she became a doctor

She drove no faster than 30 mph knowing that any faster and she would stand a chance of getting trapped in a cul-de-sac. The Hummer was a powerful machine but even it had it's limits she'd learned and with the lighting tower even more so.

Ashely was suprised he could figure out where he was with out all overturned cars and trash cans everywhere. "You must be ex-military I see. You sound like my brother..." She said trailing off as she said it. "Anyways...I will only be able to use my Glock... I am low on ammo on my AR." She said so he would know she could only do so much. "I can still use it but we will need to rob the gun store." She said to help him feel more confident.

Hunter nodded. "Ex-Military yes, New York National Guard. Left the service a few months prior to the shit hitting the fan. Sometimes training is brutal, to the point of one wrong move and you are forced to get discharged." He readied himself to move onto new cover. "Alright, you suppress at first, then once I get closer I will cover you, then the two of us will screw this guy up." He took a deep breath. "Go go go!" He ran over to another car, hoping the cover fire would be enough to not get shot.

Ella made her way over to Isaac and hunched down next to his wounded leg. Carefully she touched the area around the splinter, trying to get a better look at it.

"I'd rather bleed because of a splinter, than a walker." Ella said, and then grabbed the splinter. "Alright, you ready?" she asked, but didn't wait for an answer before she pulled it out as quickly as possible. Then she took the soft material Isaac had handed her and pressed it onto the open wound.

"Hold on." Ella said, took Isaac's hand and placed it over the material and stood up. Ella hurried out of the room. In a small room, the bathroom, she found a towel, which she quickly grabbed and hurried back to Isaac.
"Here" Ella said, and tied the towel around his thigh.

Here, the railway was three to five lanes wide, almost like walking down an empty interstate, while the occasional overpass reminded him of the car-clogged streets he had so carefully avoided.

More gunfire sounded in the sleepy city, and once again William Taggart hugged a tree and made sure his Mosin was fully loaded with a round in the chamber.

From here he decided to circle downwind. Being in the northern-Midwest meant the prevailing-wind would come from the west to east (opposite that of southern states) with wind-funnels following the local streets and other geography. As the rail went NE, and he took a side-branch due-east to approach from the south-east through the side-ally of a grocery-store. Which was just as well, since between the alley and a mall-side dental-office was a busted-up 3-wheel motorcycle and a small glut of rotters.

He also saw some guy with a shotgun directing whom he presumed was a biker-chik with an assault-rifle to attack one of the nearby buildings. He also noticed she went instead for a pistol, meaning she was low on ammo. He then saw the two exchange a few more words before the man disappeared behind the north side of the grocery-store, leaving just the girl with a pistol and her back to her.

William raised his rifle and shut the bolt with a loud clack.

"Explain yourself, how many people are with you?"

Ashley aimed at the snipper from where Hunter said he was. She hoped she did not have to waist too much ammo for this. She shot twice as she watched to see if the snipper would move away from her bullets or stay down. She waited for Hunter's order for her to move up. She did not want to mess this up and get them killed.

Hunter ran up, though he didn't go for the cover like he said he was going too. He ran right for the sniper. He knew if they waited any longer the sniper would have moved, and they wouldn't get a chance to stop 'em. He made it to the piece of cover and jumped over the top, hatchet raised. No use on using bullets at this range, too many dead near by now.

He landed the flat side of the hatchet across the shooters face, He wasn't going to kill him like this, though he was going to make him pay. Someone who is willing to attack others for no reason has likely done it before. Before he could react again he swung the flat side into his knee, then across his face again. Hunter brought the person down the the concrete then drew his .38 Revolver, then he started beating the person with it across his face. He had faced bandits before, though this time things seemed different. He pictured all the bad things he has seen people do well he was on the road into this one person, and just kept beating him with the pistol grip. "YOU ANIMAL! YOU MONSTER! YOU DID THIS! YOU DID THIS!" He stopped when he realized the amount of blood... He knew he should have stopped, he knew the man would live, but he also knew if he kept going he wouldn't.

@noxlux Standing carefully up, resting an arm on Ella's shoulder, Isaac reached for his rifle that lay on the bed and sat back down. Brushing the dust from its barrel he leaned on what was left of the bed frame and kept an eye on the door. "See what you can find here, I won't be moving for a while I think."

He scanned the room quickly before looking back to the door, it stood menacingly between two fragile walls. "Over there. The room beside the bathroom, try in there." Grimacing he pulled his bag to his side and took out a lolly, and with great effort he unwrapped it and put it into his dry mouth.

What on earth was this guy doing? I mean sure he was angry but he had no idea he would take it out on an unafflisted man. Shit... the sad this was he was so close yet so far, you see muzzleflash can be hidden and no insane sniper would forget that... I mean had the guy read up on him he would had realised something. He had a flash suppressor so to find wim must had been a real ability. Anywho, there was a lot of powergaming involved given that there was no chance for anyone to make a reaction. Laying there on the floor coved in blood he croaked out one thing "It wasn't me" this was before he passed out.@Remipa Awesome@themadhatter420

The women crouching by the motorcycle appeared unresponsive to William's hail, and then opened-fire on some random building.

William Taggart responded in-kind with a warning-shot directly over her head.

^Not gonna be hiding that anytime soon.

He then laid the tip of his bayonet against her back. The two-foot long spike still stank the sweet rusty aroma of mil-surplus berdan-primers and dried blood; if she gave him any trouble, he'd only have to point and lean forwards with all is wieght.

"How many are with you?" This time he yelled, trying to be heard over the ringing in his own ears as he steadily kept applying more pressure to her back. He didn't want to stick around long enough for her big brother to come back and have to deal with both of them; if she didn't talk, he'd just have to find-out the hard way.

Ashley screams out in fear as the fire shot got some of her hair but she did not lose any. She managed to put it out before hurting herself. She was than held with what felt like a knife in her back. She could not see and did not try to squirm too much but she was desperately trying to find a way out of this pickle she was in. "Looks its just me and another guy. I am just trying to get us back to my farm for safety. I don't want trouble.." She said as she tried to lower the tension in this situation.

Flashback - Columbia Airfield

Hayley leaned up from her place on the floor of the holding area, her hands coming up in front of her face in a haze. She couldn't think, or see…or even breathe right. Glancing across the room, she squinted, still able to make out the three or four people that she was locked in with. She wasn't sure why she was carted off here, only that she couldn't find Ryder.

Ryder.

The thought made her jolt more awake, just in time for a police officer to open the door next to her.

"We're leaving out in a few. I need you all to be alert, stay close, and whatever you do, don't leave the line. If we make this fast, we can get you to the safe zone quickly and safely.", he ordered. Hayley frowned.

"What exactly is going on?", she asked.

"You don't want to know. If you're squeamish, keep your eyes closed and hold onto someone. I don't have time to stop for you to vomit…"

Hayley frowned once more, attempting to gather herself a bit more. She slipped her arms back through the straps of her backpack, and stood from the floor.

Moments later, she was holding the belt of the police officer in front of her. She attempted to bury her head in his back, but the curiosity kept her peering around. Nothing was happening, but there was blood everywhere. Outside the front doors, it became more real to them all. Out of nowhere, two of their group were taken down by something. They screamed and begged, but the police continued marching, ignoring the carnage.

"We're not going back for them?"

"They're dead. If we go back, we'll all be dead. Keep walking.", the police officer answered her. She pulled her head from his back, and looked around definitely. It was dark outside, a little too dark to see what was around them. This was a horrible idea, "GO! "

The booming voice above her rocked her entire body as she glanced up at the cop, and her eyes became wide. A man, with half his face missing was snarling and snapping at her savior's face. His shotgun against the man's throat seemed to do nothing.

"No! Stop!", she cried out, reaching forward to push at the bloody mess of a man. As she did so, the cop let out a strangled scream, and her face was splattered in warmth as his throat was torn open and he sank to the ground, "Oh my god…No no no…"

Doing her best to react, she grabbed the shotgun, and tugged, his terrified grip hard to break. She managed, however, and glanced down at him once more.

"I'm so sorry…", she whispered.

"Kill me. Please. Kill me…", he barely spit out, sputtering blood with every word.

Hayley stared, her eyes wide for a split second, before the snarling man began coming after her. Taking a few steps back, she began to run, but not before apologizing once more to the fallen officer. During her run, she managed to grab his flashlight, which had rolled several feet from him.

In the dark, she would probably encounter more of those…people, but she couldn't stay here. She huffed and began running, following the same direction the line had been taking. Maybe there really was a safe zone. Maybe there was still hope for Ryder..for everyone.

"Neither do I;" Taggart replied as he eased the bayonet off of Ashley's back, only so he could quickly cycle the bolt without stabbing her, "but then again, who does? If you don't mind telling me who or what you were shooting at and why; you can turn around if you'd like, slowly."

For extra space, he took a step back, just in case she got the idea to lunge for him or swat-away the rifle. It would've taken some ninja-like reflexes, but it seemed her adrenalin was plenty high to pull it off if he let his guard down, since it was only just him. He decided to lean against the brick grocery-store wall for added stability, and also in an effort to look casual despite being weighed-down with his 'go-bag'.

"You thirsty?"
