Long, long ago, in a star cluster not far from our own, a war raged between two inconceivably powerful empires. On one side was the Enigma, a race of shapeshifters dedicated to full economic control of the galaxy. On the other side, the Old Acirian Empire, an empire of highly-intelligent and regenerative amphibious creatures who took quite a bit of enjoyment in wreaking havoc and ruining the Enigmas’ plans at galactic domination. Both races were among the most-advanced in the galaxy, each capable of wiping out entire solar systems effortlessly, and so when it appeared that a war between them was inevitable, the galactic community braced itself for the end of organic life.

As they had feared, the First Great Galactic War tore the galaxy to pieces, and destroyed hundreds of star systems. It was about one hundred years into this war that the Enigma developed a super weapon capable of completely eradicating the Acirians, a device so mind-numbingly powerful that it took the energy of an entire sun to fuel one shot. The blast was so powerful that it tore holes in the spacetime continuum and actually broke the laws of conservation of mass, eradicating star systems so efficiently that not a single one of their atoms even remained in the physical plane of existence. They called the weapon “Duoc Pristaliz”, or, in English, “God’s Pen.”

Had they been facing any empire other than the Old Acirians, the Enigma surely would have won the war. Unfortunately for the Enigma, the Acirians were a clever bunch of Cryptobranchidae, and so they were able to locate the Duoc Pristaliz and steal it. After using it to remove the Enigma home star system from existence, the Acirians hid the Duoc Pristaliz (they were unable to destroy it) and then had everyone who knew of its location incinerated. It wasn’t long after the Duoc had been hidden that the Old Acirian Empire vanished, nearly overnight. With them gone, the legendary weapon was truly lost to time.

...Until three weeks ago, when a spike in Hawking Radiation was detected in a star cluster thirty-thousand lightyears from Earth. Such a high spike in radiation could only be caused by one thing, an artificial wormhole generator strong enough to tear spacetime into smithereens. The only known artificial wormhole generator strong enough to tear spacetime into smithereens, of course, is the legendary Duoc Pristaliz, the most powerful device ever created.

Now, the hunt is on. Dozens of galactic empires have now recognized the existence of this spike, and many have sent ships to the cluster to identify which of its star systems carry the legendary weapon. Any nation able to get their hands on the Duoc Pristaliz would be able to rule the galaxy unopposed, with a weapon capable of removing entire star systems from existence. You play as one of those ships. Whether you’re a soldier, a treasure-hunter, or a crook looking to hold the weapon for ransom, your job is to race to the Duoc Pristaliz. Move swiftly, trust no one, and reach galactic greatness.

MIND GAMES: THE RACE FOR GOD'S PEN

:: Overview ::

Co-GM: Godmod, Mr Allen J
Genre: High Science-Fiction, Mild Sci-fi Satire
Recruitment Status: Open
Players:

Welcome to The Race for God’s Pen, a Science Fiction roleplay. As I said above, players in this roleplay will play as the captain and crew of a spaceship which is heading towards the Shia Star Cluster, a cluster of star systems approximately one light-year in diameter. One of the planets in this cluster contains the Duoc Pristaliz, but the intensity of the radiation signals is equal in intensity on four of the planets. Your characters must explore these planets and attempt to find the ancient weapon and bring it back to your race’s homeworld.

:: Rules ::

1. No Godmodding, metagaming, auto-hitting, auto-dodging, Mary-Sueing, Gary-Sueing, Powerplaying, and other assorted acts of douchebaggery.

2. Swearing, drinking, gore, and other themes of licentiousness are allowed, but don’t do anything stupid.

3. Don’t start a flamewar or I’ll shoot you out into the inky black vacuum of space.

4. No magic. Just no. This is science-fiction, not LOTR. If you like fantasy, I’m sure that there are many excellent fantasy roleplays out there for you to join.

5. In this rp, you make a captain, crew, and a spaceship. You may only make one captain and one ship, but you may make as many crewmates as you’d like.

6. As far as abilities go, I want to make sure that nobody can hopelessly outgun anyone else. No impenetrable defenses and no super-weapons. If it’s stronger than, say, a nuke, I don’t want to see it.

7. Also, no time travel. I know that time travel can be fun, but it’s also broken as all hell.

8. Because our characters are aliens, they will probably have some supernatural abilities. The following abilities are not allowed: mind-control, anything involving life force, anything that causes instant death, powerful telepathy, anything with the prefix “omni-” at the beginning, time powers, shadow powers of any kind, probability powers, seeing the future or past, elemental manipulation, and reality warping.

9. All of your characters must work for the same faction, i.e. if Captain Bob works for the Bulu Empire, all of his crewmates must also work for the Bulu Empire. (there can be exceptions to this rule. PM me about it)

10. No humans. Humans are gross and ugly.

11. I am very lenient on post length, and I prefer quality over quantity. There is no minimum sentence amount, but write enough that you live up to advanced standards.

12. I cannot believe that I actually have to say this, but no weaponized teleportation. Teleportation in itself is not banned (though I'm not a big fan) but doing something like teleporting someone into the vacuum of space or teleporting weapons inside of a ship's shield/hull is not allowed, as there is no way to avoid that.

Well, I am here and going to do a character sheet.

EDIT: Also, why can't we play humans? I was planning on having humans and aliens on my ship :(

Your ship is, in the classical definition, indestructible. That's not gonna fly.

Also, if it can travel 538 times the speed of light, how is it so small? Like, where do the engines go?

Also, while I know how your swords work, you need to explain them still because there are other people in this rp besides you, me, and your sister.

Alright, refresh in 15 or less.
The ship is so small because the warp generator only has to make a small bubble of isolated spacetime in order to travel at warp warp, so the warp generator must only be about ye big *gestures expansively*. Besides, this is the both the future, and fiction.

Ok, done. I hope that is more reasonable. I made the armor less protective and the magnetic field less powerful.
I just want it to be known that we have magnets almost as powerful today too, and I think that magnetic field based weapons are a legitimate possibility. Maybe just as a universe update here, Magnets might just be the most effective weapon for taking down battleships, large and small.

I doubt my ship will be in a battle for too long anyways, spies don't have time for battles.

Added my main character projectile weapon, added detail.

Trin Lance Shivmiista is accepted so long as his 'robatron combustion gun' can only explode things the size of arms and legs in one shot.

@amol_kotay: I got seven pages into plot summary for Agatha, realized I'd only covered 1\3rd of the book and ditched the idea of trying to explain things outright.

Taco, your sheets are accepted on the condition that if two objects of larger mass/greater speed and similar armorment collide with it, the ship will shatter.

Paging @Maxx, @Godmod, and @Mr Allen J

I don't know how I feel about the idea of Claymoor. It seems like he violates the rule of Powerful Telepathy, possibly Reality Warping, and he might as well have Omni-shapeshifting since it seems like he can change into any object whatsoever at any time. It feels to me like he's just some straight up terminator that can ravage everything. And being able to turn into a lamp? By that premise, he might as well just turn into God's Pen itself and kill everything. Why would he need to be a spy when it seems you've created a nearly perfect killing machine. If he can turn into anything then he can get close enough to any character that it wont matter if you can douse the whole universe in hellfire, because Claymoor will already have killed you. Why does he even need a ship, if he can just shape-shift into one? How would you even kill him, because even if you DO get a chance to crush him or launch a nuke at him, he can just turn into a gas and evade everything.

Hell, if something like Claymoor really DID exist, why don't all the factions team up to eradicate him, because he seems like the most clear threat, seeing as how he is practically a demi-god, if not God himself...

I'm not a GM, but I feel like you character is simply too op. Assuming he can turn into other inanimate objects as well as a lamp, it feels like he can just do anything and kill anyone. It's up to the GM's, but I think your character either needs greater restrictions on his capabilities, or you need a huge overhaul to his weaknesses because I'm not too keen to the idea of a nearly invincible shape-shifting terminator...

He can't turn into a lamp mechanically, he can just look like the lamp in a fashion similar to a cuttlefish looking like a hunk of coral. The cuttle fish is still a cuttlefish. Ergo, Claymoor would look like the lamp, but the lamp would be squishy and unable to function as a lamp once plugged in. He can't turn into anything, rather he can imitate it superficially as he's basically a sentient gellball. The telepathy wouldn't affect other characters, rather it would allow him to think like we would as his brain matter is spread out throughout his body with no physical connection. It's like cable versus wi-fi. As for him being a killing machine, er... No. He's composed of cell jelly. The cell jelly does not stop being jelly when it imitates metal. The consistency and make up is the same. The only thing that's changed is the color and texture externally. The worst he could do is stick to your hand and try and digest it, which wouldn't work to well because you could scrape it off before it has a chance to do anything.

He couldn't turn into a space ship, nor gas, because that would be impossible. It would require him to alter what he's made of, which like every other creature out there, is cells. Cells cannot turn into gas, a gun, a ship, metal or anything at all because that would be rediculous. They can however rearrange their configuration to look like something they're not, but that's all they'd be able to do, look like it. Not functionally become it because that would require him to cease to be composed of cells.

As for the car thing, he wouldn't literally become a car, he'd just look like one (he'd need to take wheels, axles and a few other parts from an existing car to even imitate it in the first place) but the imitation car would not be able to go as fast as a real car and if it ran into anything it would splat like a stick of butter because it's made of cells.

I do think that he needs to explain the science and limitations better, but I don't think the current version, or at least my understanding of it, is OP as it could be killed by fire, acid, pathogens, the vacuum of space, radiation and all those other wonderful life ending vices like the rest of us.
