@EruditeAssassin No. It was just that you added it after we started so i wanted to know why. Still, as Hekazu said, it doesn't get counted into an attack roll.

@The Harbinger of Ferocity You don't have to/get to roll twice to knock people prone, if you are using the shove action as discussed on PHB p.195-196 under "Shoving a creature". If your first roll succeeds you can just declare that they fall prone (or alternatively push them for five feet). Doesn't seem like you could combine the effects in RAW form, so it's up to the DM to call on that... Sorry about "rules lawyering", I guess I am just too used to doing it. The shove action replaces (up to?) one attack action, so doing both would kinda give you an extra attack.


I am aware that the shove action has two different uses, having evolved from bullrush and trip but with choice instead, of which I am using both in this case. I do indeed have a sufficient number of actions, too. I intentionally chose this course very selectively, but I appreciate you having the breadth of experience to know the rules that usually this combination is not possible.

If you’re able to make multiple attacks with the Attack action, this attack replaces one of them.


Without spoiling the means, @Hekazu, I effectively have the Extra Attack ability.

I can assure you it will all make more sense in due time, @Hekazu. I prefer to work in mysterious ways with the Dungeon Master, so @darkandstar and I have a few things in mind regarding the character.

After all, yes, it is indeed strange, something of which I do not doubt a character with a keen wit or intellect, or even luck, could notice and feel curious about.

As do we all, @EruditeAssassin. It is part of why I go in depth with my posts no matter exactly what is transpiring; it helps, at least for myself, feel like more is being accomplished. It works as well for the posts of others, making it all more cinematic and exciting.

The downside being the interim in between.

But with that, I disappear.

I am at least pleased the party did not jump to arms at the drop of a hat, nearly all of us sticking to seeing where this was going to turn. It gives me some hope that this will not go horrifically.

Well, Travok seems to have found his trigger, as he will attempt to defend himself with the cantrip. He won't be taking the hit voluntarily, but the attack roll will easily hit. I'll subtract the lost hit point. Oh, and in case the man was close enough to Travok to cause disadvantage, the alternative roll resulted in another nine (9) so there's that.

Agreed, @Hekazu. I am curious to see where this goes from here, given this combat seemed a bit unexpected.
