Kicking Ass Without the Elements: The Non-Bender

Okay honestly I thought I'd end up judging WAY more applications for this role so I'm kinda glad. The two I got were both pretty unique and had a very good feel to them as well. I like both characters and I appreciate their individuality - although I believe there has already been a discussion about the openness of non-benders. @Halvtand and @Dawnscroll Thank you both for your interest in the role. I based my decision on which character I felt would help shape the group the most and so I want to say congratulations to Dawnscroll as we welcome Fan Zhong to Team Avatar.

@Halvtand I do really like Sang and so I would be happy to offer you the role of the Avatar's bodyguard for the journey. Given her status as a master warrior and close relationship you established with the White Lotus in your bio it wouldn't be unreasonable that they asked if they could spare a warrior to keep the Avatar safe since its more vital than ever she is protected. If that would appeal to you then I am happy to welcome Saitong Sang to Team Avatar. The only thing I would ask is that you put your profile in the same format as everyone else's and if it would be possible to find a picture of Sang without her uniform and makeup on? Just for reference, it will of course be up to you when and if she ever does take it off in the IC. Something 2D to keep in line with the rest of the faceclaims would be lovely!

Of course if that doesn't appeal to you then I respect your decision and it has been really pleasant having you!

I stand behind the GM on all of this. Fan will make a great companion/teacher to the Avatar, and I foresee only great things for this RP.

As for Sang, I will grab any chance I can get to play her, and with this crew I will probably laugh all the way.
Just a few things, ideas and stuff to clarify.
Bodyguard, not teacher - ie not primarily there to pass on skills. I will have a closer reading of the Avatar's appearance and try to match it a bit better to open up the possibility of also being a "body double".
Profile format, are we only talking colours or is there anything I have missed? I skipped that on purpose while I made the character (faster that way) but can have it up and running like the rest shortly.
I will try to find a good picture of Sang's appearence without the uniform and makeup. Whether or not she'll take her off... We'll see :)

@Halvtand Yeah, she'd primarily be there to protect the Avatar and not pass on skills, but if Sang wishes to pass on any skills that would make up for any gaps that Fang might not be able to bridge. (i.e Kyoshi style combat, her martial arts) Then I'll let that be up to her.

Yeah, just the same format and colors as everyone else in the CHAR tab would be appreciated!

Announcement for all RPs I participate in: For the next while I cannot guarantee what my updating schedule will be like. I will do my best, but no promises can be made. Last night I found out that I am going to be a father, so naturally I need to make sure I get a ton of shit figured out.

I hope you’re all having a swell weekend, mine is kinda busy but I’m still finding time to plague OOC’s with my existence. 8)

Congratulations @ProPro children are so exciting! Just try to update and stick with us where you can. I’ll be slightly altering the start of roleplay for the sake of not putting any pressure on ProPro to have an immediate post out since the opening of the roleplay kind of depended on some Avatar action. What we will do instead is have the group ready to observe the Avatar and then the White Lotus spots a United Forces patrol and so the group just kind of rush aboard the Airship. We’ll take a bit more time for character interaction at the start as well so that everyone can make a formal introduction and kind of see how the character relationships pan out. As for that, the rest should go according to our agenda. The roleplay will be opening at some point tomorrow. I feel like Monday is a good day because it allows for the weekly sweep to give everyone lots of time because you get all week and then the weekend so there is (hopefully) no major reason to stress. I won’t count anyone as having not posted until I check the following Tuesday and so hey if you end up being mega sneaky with a post before I can see it then congratulations.

Now, as you probably noticed, there hasn’t been an option to apply for villains. This isn’t because I intend to play all the villains in the roleplay myself; I MEAN IF I HAVE TO BUT I’D RATHER NOT. As I said before you guys are free to contribute book ideas, drive the narrative and create NPC’s as you see fit. The same applies for antagonists and villain characters. The reason why I chose not to have a set villain roles that people could apply for as primary characters is due to the nature of Avatar; it’s a really story-driven universe centered around the Avatar (no shit) and their friends. Even though it feels like Azula was in every single episode of Book 2 and 3, she was only in 20 overall. Mai was only in 13 and poor Ty Lee only got to be in 10 episodes. Each of the Korra villains mostly only appeared in their own books – Kuvira being the only real exception although the other villains all returned once or twice. I’m sure this roleplay will be the same in a lot of ways. There will be moments of genuine instructor and Avatar wisdom session for all of the instructors and while everyone in else in Team Avatar can interact amongst themselves or go with the Avatar into the spirit world via a portal or whatever it is, villains don’t have the same luxury. There is also the fact that eventually villains have to lose and while I’m sure some people have had great experiences in roleplays most of mine have included people not wanting to kiss goodbye to their beloved character. Which is fair enough if they’re your main focus within a roleplay. Anyway since we all now have a primary character with which we can focus on I’d like to open the roleplay up to villain creation for you guys! You don’t have to fill in the whole thing character sheet, just send me a filled in version of the below example via PM and we’re good to go.



To answer any initial questions you might have your villains will be able to phase in and out of the story so if we need them a lot at one point then cool! But if you have nothing to post for them as then you’re not required to. I’ll be measuring your activity through your primary character so if you make like 12 villains then I don’t expect you to post for them all every week, so long as your member of Team Avatar is posted for then you’re covered. On the same note if you’ve created a villain and you happen to need to post for them more than your primary character (maybe they’re about to end the Avatar cycle who knows) but you only have time for one post then just say so and I’ll be happy to count it.

No, your antagonists do not need to be a part of the United Nations. They can do whatever they want. They don’t even have to be serious threats if you wanna make Team Rocket style villains that just show up to get blasted then you do you. I’ll also be slightly more lenient with villain powers. If you have any more questions then hit up your favourite unbiased GM.

Finally if you have any ideas for events that drive the narrative forward, allow for a lot of character interaction or are just entertaining (something like entering all the women into a Miss Avatar Universe competition only for them to discover neither of the men voted for them) then please hit me up – even if you have a whole idea for a Book like give it to me I’m happy to allow someone else to steer the ship for a bit. And feel free to plot together to come up with things that involve other characters. Maybe you really hate me and wanna see Kariya suffer so you decide to invade the Southern Water Tribe with a group of villains. () Or maybe you want to make your character suffer? Don’t be afraid to grab the limelight for a bit, every character should shine.
