That actually goes to one of my classmates ( congrats on getting runner-up, Svenn). He showed up to the funeral just to get out of school, and he openly admitted it shortly before the service started to one of our classmates. That's damn disrespectful. The dead deserve more respect than that.

Not surprised. We had one boy who died in a really nasty accident when I was in 8th grade and there were a lot of kids who didn't even know him, but cried and pretended to be terribly upset just so they could get sent home from school. Meanwhile, I had gone to school with him ever since kindergarden (he'd even come to several of my birthday parties) and I never played that card.

Unfortunately, people like that are just part of the world... Regardless of much they suck.

Ok, agreed then. Svenn does get second place.
It really, REALLY bugs me when people pull shit like that... -.-

There was one guy who was killed at my school and there were a number of people who apparently went to the funeral just to skip class.
The amount of heartlessness people have is earth shattering.

People say dumb shit. I don't doubt that was one of the reasons he showed up, and probably the one he wants people to think is real, because callouses are tougher than regular skin. But callouses only grow in places where you've been damaged.

Eh...

Really depends on the individual.
My High School had it's fair share of heartless, mindless, waste of air people who would pull shit like this any chance they got.
Granted I don't know their history, these assholes could of had pretty bad upbringings.

But either way there are defelently High Schooler's who would crash a funeral just to miss a class.

In addition to the comments in this thread, I might also add that sometimes feeling nothing is a self-protection mechanism. Psychologically speaking, it's the mind's own way to protect a person. It's not nihlism, but rather a way for self control, because sometimes when the emotional floodgates are opened, the effects would be negative/undesirable. Thus the mind just adds a bit of padding to lessen the impact of shock or bad news.

People have been leaving notes on Caleb's locker, and I wanted to show respect. So I wrote a letter and taped it in an envelope to his locker.
